  • Welcome to 2024!!
To start the year, what better way than to share this episode with my long time best friend and powerhouse of a woman Mehreen Khan. She is the Economic Editor of the Times London and has had an incredible journey as a journalist. We reminisce on our times in Oxford and how she helped me move to Dubai and how we navigate the professional world as young Muslim women. Join in!

I live and work in Brussels and it was such a huge loss to the media scene here when Mehreen left. Nice to see her loosening up with a friend here as she was a frosty character in Brussels - though I can’t blame her with half of the bullshit she had to deal with

I am intrigued, what did she experience that caused her to be frosty?
she seems like someone who is indeed very closed and purposefully holding back in the office, a lot of senior women are like that and I cant really understand why

@@Mohamed456fullwell I’m not going to cast aspersions on her character or why she is the way she is. In Brussels…meh, it’s a town where journalists are generally a bit softer than UK journos. So her more abrasive style, which many of us really appreciated, clashed with some officials and generally just made her stand out. Then there’s the fact that the EU bubble in Brussels is a very white ecosystem. It’s by no means the UK and definitely not like London. So you’re interacting with people who, while mostly well-meaning, haven’t had much contact with Muslims and non-white people. So you can imagine the sorts of comments or general attitudes that might come from that. French officials in particular are very secular and have strong feelings toward islam. So it can’t have been easy to constantly contend with those sort of things, I mean, even just on a social level.
