ALBERT SCHWEITZER - CALLED TO AFRICA
Dr. Albert Schweitzer is remembered around the world as one of the great humanitarians of the 20th century, a man who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in healing the sick and injured in Africa. This towering figure - jungle doctor, pastor, philosopher, and celebrated musician - was revered by royalty and the famous of his day. Yet the price of his fame was paid for in part by his wife and daughter, left behind in Europe while he pursued his African dream.
Albert Schweitzer: Called to Africa tells his remarkable story through the eyes of his wife, Helene, a nurse who shared her husband's dream of carving a hospital out of the rugged African jungle. Filmed on location in Strasbourg, France, where the young Schweitzer gave organ recitals and preached, and in Gabon, West Africa, where the hospital he founded continues to treat people today, this inspiring docu-drama brings to life the story of Albert Schweitzer, and is enhanced by real-life interviews with family members, biographers, theologians, and others.

    The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

He admired Jesus, but believed Jesus was mistaken. Its unfortunate, but the most probably historical view is that Jesus existed and preached the imminent coming of the Kingdom of God.
Now that didn't happen, but Jesus left us ideals to make the world better. Schweitzer is saying we should live to create the Kingdom Jesus described, even if the historical Jesus who lived about 30AD thought that God was about to make the Kingdom appear by force.
We can try and create it ourselves, build a better more loving world with Jesus as an inspiration.

I dont care how accomplished a person is degree wise, Jesus certainly considered himself to be the"Son" of god and claimed this title all through his life and through the gospels. Dr Schweitzer was a great man of talent, ability and humanity, but theses are "good works" that is the gospel of works without salvation through our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Mother Thersa was quite the same as this man, but unfortunatly did not beleive in the real gospel or the biblical jesus of nazereth. Beware of false prophets and another gospel about our lord as being cursed by god to lead men astray.(James)

Albert Schweitzer was more interested in BEING IN CHRIST than doctrine - and I can trace 13 sentences that Jesus may have said .. all he wanted was to be a good Jew and help men and women see the truth of love - other paths have killed more life than I believe Jesus or our god - would have condoned at all .. go inside - seek his presence there - it is there you will find him for there he dwells forever - forget the word if it leads to hate, division and war - that is not Jesus ... if you preach anything or display anything than what Jesus is -- LOVE STRENGTH and FORGIVENESS, I know you do not know that of which you speak ... and so it is ... ALL LIFE IS SACRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is being a Christian? A real Christian, not just in name only, is one whose sins are truly forgiven, who has repented from sin and who is moving away from a sinful life. It's not just one who does good works. The good works will come as the fruit of salvation, but those works don't save. Schweitzer rejected the authority of the Bible after "some study". Really? How did he know anything about Jesus if his source was suspect?

Now we know about the universe, black holes, the big bang, and all this other crap these morons didn't have a clue about. If God spoke to them he would have told them SOMETHING of value. It is not dogma he rejected, but elementary Christian Doctrine. Jesus knew who he was, the messiah. He predicted his own death, burial and resurrection, performed miracles, foretold of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, professed to be the Son of God, did not correct Peter when he confessed Jesus to be the Messiah, explained and completed the fulfillment of the Mosaic Covenant and the issuance of the the New Covenant of the Spirit of Life. The prediction of the world's end is misinterpreted in the words "this generation" where they can also denote an age or swath of time encompassing many generations.
Sweitzer did not believe the infallibility of the scriptures in direct contradiction of its claims. But he loved, took pity, showed mercy and served. These are the things God commands and few do.

All our righteousness is filthy rags if Jesus is not the source of our righteousness. Too bad he was not grounded in the truths of the Bible. He needs to see where Jesus knew he was the Messiah based on his teachings and prophecies from the old covenant books. Also preterism would clear up the dispensational madness and confusion. That false future does lead people off the path of truth.

If you are making the point that Dr Schweitzer somehow took the name of God in vain; yes he committed most of his life with little reward helping others in harsh condition. Maybe he did say some things out of frustration. He faced many obstacles.
