    I had a Double Eagle 25 years ago. It was a 18ft with a 200hp Outboard motor. Really sweet for water skiing.

    Lowery's is the one that I'll never forget. He'd already made birdie from a water hazard on 14 and holed out for eagle on 15. I remember thinking to myself, "I wouldn't be surprised if he holes this," just before he hit his second shot on 17. I'd never anticipated an albatross before and I haven't anticipated one since. Lowery was just unbelievable during that stretch of 4-5 holes. Too bad he missed the putt to win or we'd probably still be talking about it.

      A double eagle would be that which is why it's an Albatross. Double Eagle is the imperial system version which is why it makes no sense but who cares because murican.

    I live in the US and always have and this is the first time I’ve ever heard it referred to as a double eagle. Even in Golfing games (i.e. everybody’s golf/hotshots) it’s called an albatross. Idk why they would call it double eagle

      i think the people being paid to announce tournaments authenticated by the professional rules keeper of the sport (PGA) are a pretty good source for terminology in the sport.

      Oosthuizen's was better than any of these! I forget how long his second shot was but it must have rolled 80 feet or more slowly to the back of the green and into the hole. It was like 30 seconds of suspense!

    I'm from Portland, OR and Bob Gilder was born and grew up in Southern Oregon but the guy walking next to him in the clip is Peter Jacobsen, who is a golf commentator with NBC. At that time, Peter was 200+ lbs less and younger.

      Some of these, such as this one, are fake. They have mini-gyroscopes in the balls. There's no way that ball at this point should have gone in that direction. A lot of Tiger Woods' putts have done this too.

      Golf is a great sport. Simultaneously the most rewarding and the most frustrating sport in the world. My 70 year old father just beat me and my brother the other day with the best chipping I've ever seen. Holed out 3 times and didn't miss hit a single chip the whole round. Had the biggest smile on his face

      it sorta works like how a bogey and a double bogey works. If there is one more or one less stroke they just call it a "double" eagle or a double bogey. So it would not be 4 less strokes so a double eagle and an albatross is the same thing

    It's an Albatross. Double Eagle, doesn't make sense. An Eagle, is two under, therefore double two under, is four under.

See, using the terms double or triple has its own negative connotation. you only count doubles and triples when they are bogeys. Each negative scoring stroke has its own name of a bird. Why change that for the albatross? Regardless of its historyLOL

      +Fuzzy Dunlop it sorta works like how a bogey and a double bogey works. If there is one more or one less stroke they just call it a "double" eagle or a double bogey. So it would not be 4 less strokes so a double eagle and an albatross is the same thing

      +sexy gorilla it's nothing like that. A double bogey is 2 x 1. Hence the word double! A double Eagle is still 2 x -2 which is -4 and not -3 under par for that hole.

      When you double something, you multiply it by 2. Last time I checked, 2 * -2 = -4.

      StuffWeUnderstand because while eagle is technically correct, hole in one is the proper term for a par 3. Just like a double eagle is technically correct, but albatross is the proper term.

    Surprised the Yanks don't call an eagle a double birdie. Anyway if an eagle is 2 under then it stands to reason a double eagle is 4 under. Not so in the land of the World Series where 99 % of the world isn't eligible.
