In the "My E90" video series I will - on an irregular basis - post updates about my BMW 320i E90. I use this car for daily driving, and expect to drive it for about 25.000 kilometers each year. If my yearly driving goes up again, I consider to revert to shortlease again but keep my BMW 320i. But that remains to be seen.

So many complaining about oil consumption...That's what you get if you don't change the oil every 10k kilometers (6 thousand miles). BMW wants owners to bring in cars after the warranty ends so recommends very high oil change intervals.
The N47 engine is known for weak valve seals. My 320i consumed 1 liter oil every 2.500 kilometers, while after I replaced the valve seals I only use 1 liter every 12.500 kilometers (which is fine for a 12 year old car). So it is not just the oil change intervals that play a role here.
Интервал замены масла должен быть каждые 5000 тысяч километров, а ещё лучше считать по моточасам, ибо машина всё время работает на холостых при прогреве и в пробках, что эти моменты не учитывают при замене масла по километражу. Если вы заливаете масло синтетику, то замена масла по моточасам составляет 300-350 часов, а если заливаете в двигатель полусинтетическое масло, то тогда нужно менять масло примерно 200-250 моточасов. Если придерживаться этих рекомендаций, двигатель будет работать исправно до поломки механизма когда он отработает свой естественный ресурс.
its wild how vastly different bmw makes their cars for different country , I get a 6 cylinder engine, leather seats, but no idrive, no automatic ac, no fold down seats, no foglights, ... also no sport steering wheel, no split folding center console
Это не зависит от страны куда поставляется машина, комплектация БМВ всегда была индивидуальной на выбор при покупке машины с завода, если вам попалась машина с простой комплектацией это значит что машина изначально была выбрана с такими конфигурациями.
Wow.. schaffen echt nur wenige so viel Infos in ein Video ohne Sprache zu bringen! Man sagt der Kiste nach das die schlecht ziehen soll, was hast du da so für Erfahrungen gemacht? Wie ist so die Anlage in den Kisten? Haben die gut Bass oddr sucht man den vergebens?
Moin, das Auto zieht eigentlich nicht schlecht, aber in der Zeit der Turbomotoren haben viele Menschen den Typ Saugermotor zu fahren verlernt. Anfangs zieht er wenig, aber wenn man ihn hochdreht kommt die Leistung. Dazu kommt das andere Fahrzeuge oftmals in der Zeit noch 1 oder 2 Schaltvorgänge hinlegen müssen, die man selber aber nicht hat.
Das HiFi ist für mich mehr als ausreichend, auch wenn ich so ab und zu an den Grenzen des Systems komme. Ob du damit zufrieden bist, kannst aber nur du beurteilen, denn ich kenne deine Musikwünsche und Referenzen nicht.
Look out for leaking valve stem seals and timing chain issues.. Bought mine with 152k kms and had both problems.. They threw thicker oil in the engine to hide the problem with the seals.
It's a great car to drive though
I only had the valve seals that I had to replace, they did it at 199.000km and gave me the feedback that the engine otherwise was in pristine condition. Haven't heard anything about the timing chain with the petrol engine, I thought this problem mostly applied to the diesel engine?
@@guitigefilmpjes hi, you're right the diesel n47 is horror with chains but the petrol has chain problems to, but not as much. Mine was really stretched out, they checked the chain when I went for the seals, luckily.. Would ended up really bad for me if I didn't go for the leaking seals haha!
Будь у меня выбор при выборе кузова Е90, я бы взял 330 или 325 на шестицилиндровом двигателе, БМВ должен ехать и иметь отличное звучание, если БМВ не едет и не звучит легендарным баварским звуком, тогда теряет всякий смысл покупать БМВ.

Hey i am looking for information about BMW 320i 2006/2007 (110kw/150hp) .Is it expensive to own? i mean ,maintanance ,common failures and stuff like that.Also,does he really drink that much petrol and should i consider installing LPG? (Mostly i drive in the city) Thanks!
О боже люди покупающие БМВ и которые хотят установить газ на машину где это не предусмотрено с завода, вы только машину испортите, да и смысл покупки БМВ и всё время думать о расходе топлива? Хотите сэкономить на топливе? Купите дизельную или малолитражку.

Congratulations on your 320i, do you have a pre-LCI or LCI model? What year is yours?
@@guitigefilmpjes Thanks!! Mine is the 2010 model year which is indeed an LCI. It has some options too like yours like the idrive, front/rear sensors, heated seats, dual zone climate control and upgraded steering wheel

@@guitigefilmpjes Thanks, you too! You definitely have done more kilometers on yours than me since you own the car from 2015. Can you briefly describe me all the costs that you paid for the car; in other terms how reliable was it throughout all these years?
@@Edwin-km4xk For the last 5 years and 116.000 kilometers I spent:
1. Repairs: €5.085,20 (most expensive, valve seals with €1.200 and ABS sensors rear axle + service for €2.000)
2. Small parts (headlight bulbs, windscreen whipers): €200,18
3. TUV (MOT, APK): €258,18
4. Regular maintenance / service: €1.681,20
5. Tyres (Winter tyres + 17 inch alloys for €795,00, new summer tyres €600,16 + changing them a few times): €1.446,10
Makes a total of €8.670,86.
But if something needs to be repaired, I always do it, and I keep all the service intervals. I guess that one can do it cheaper, but I like to try and keep the car in a good condition.
Nowadays I don’t drive it that often anymore, so for the past year (only 9.000 kilometers driven) the costs have just been €976,72.

Thats my Dreamcar for beginning , how much did u pay for it?
Three years ago I paid 10.000 Euro's for it (with 123.000 kilometers), but now you would probably get it for 5.000 to 6.000 euro's. There are cheaper cars, but they probably will need repairs. Important, make sure the valve seals have been fixed, that is a weak issue on these engines (4-cylinder petrol)!

how much does it cost to maintain?
Well, that depends. I let the BMW dealership service the car (which is expensive), but was able to replace the bulbs for the headlights and blades for the windscreen whipers myself. For the past 30.000 kilometer, I paid about €600 for servicing the car (including general service twice, oil change, changing the brake fluids, servicing the airconditioning). But again, that was the BMW dealership, if you go to a general dealership it probably will be cheaper.
And by doing these things, it will take quite a while until it needs servicing again. I expect that for the next 30.000 kilometers, I will only have to pay about €300 in maintenance. (if nothing breaks, which it hasn't until now).

chould you make a fuel consumption video highway and city. i also bought a 2007 bmw 320i M sports pack in july. good car but oil leaks & very underpowered im not very happy with it. great video
+Ehsan Ahmed I will make such a video in due time, but I am not sure if I should wait for spring (summer tires) before making such a video.
Anyhow, I agree on the oil consumption, that seems to be quite high, although I have to wait until I can gain some long-term insight. But the power is quite decent, remember that this type of engine (no turbocharger) needs the revs gain its maximum acceleration, which kicks in in between 3000 and 5000rpm.
+guitigefilmpjes oil leaks is mostly the valve cover gasket and vacum pump. i did repair it but its leaking again giving a burning smell. i will repair again before 2016. the oil will leak no matter how well taken off the vehicle is. there is no escaping changing the valve cover gasket and vacum pump seals which is the main source off leaks. its a nice car just high maintenance. the diesels are much better

ZS K i had a mazda diesel truck before. It was the best vehicle iv owned, my bmw is now in need off a new timming chain/kit , & valve stem seals. I have to say buying a 320i E90 was a big mistake as the diesel model is hard to find in the sport model & colour off choice since it is such a reliable car. 320d or 330d is a good car , obviously stay away from N47. M47 engine does last a very long time with few known issues

+DEDICATED 2 CARS Yes they are, but note that the have different types of engines with different technical specs (the 150hp and 170hp versions have different injectors for example).But these engines tend to use quite some oil (mine about 1 liter every 5.000 kilometers), so make sure you check there aren't any visible oil leaks or traces of oil in the engine compartment. Did the seller clean the engine? Then it could be an indication that they want to hide something!Apart from that, the car is reliable, I haven't had any issues with it yet.

+DEDICATED 2 CARS I don't think that it is bad that they use much oil, it is just annoying. But I think it can be fixed for a few hundred euros, so that does not require a large amount of money.

I am 182, so quite a bit smaller then you are. I can't give you any good advice if you will find a good seating position, you have to try and decide that for yourself.

@@khudayer Unfortunately I don't like using after market solutions, so I do not have a link or suggestion for you. Only that you search for a model with xenon headlights, as replacing the halogen with (original) xenon headlights is very expensive (as you also have to retrofit the headlight wash, at least here in Germany).

It has a few scratches and dents, though they are small. And it is 172.000 kilometers now, but it is still being maintained at the same level!
