Started watching you at 500 elo a few months ago. Already to 900 now and climbing. Thanks for making videos for us lower level people.
This is so much better than the so called "chessbrah" series. I was never able to follow his rules but now that you have used the exact same name, idea, thumbnail and rules I am finally able to follow along. Don't support that "chessbrah" guy!
This and your new London video are your best yet, Alex! Thank you and keep up the great work. 🤜🤛
This is an amazing series, it was also amazing when Aman did it. You should definitely do a heartfelt shout out in the intro of the next video and just say "I'm doing a take on Aman's Habits series, but focusing on specific openings like the Caro Kann", etc..
incredibly instructive! Please continue this series!
Good work, Alex. Look forward to all your videos.
Great approach and demonstration! Good philosophy when losing on the clock, as you pointed out, what is important at that stage is to get the winning position. Well done!
incredibly instructive! Thanks Alex!
In the first game: at move 17 I would have been tempted to play ... Nd3+ as this forks the King and Queen forcing the King to move to either c2 or b1 which would leave a revealed check when 18... Nxf4 . Black could then either save the rook on C8 or sac it with 19... Rxc3 which looks like it is winning to me.
I would love to see more of this
Nobody plays this badly against me.
No way! Haha
Yeah wth that second game especially had moves that people even in that elo range usually don’t make. Maybe the time was getting to them.
Well then again you might not be this low rated. I mean lets be honest... 500 rated.... im glad if they even know how the pieces move lol
They do you just dont see it
Same but then again I'm not 500
Master class and superior to other streamers where they show you an opening and proceed to play the game at a 2000 elo level leaving beginners and intermediates completely lost.
I LOVE what you're doing here! I'm a bit more advanced, but the simplicity in your play makes me feel more confident in learning new openings and jumping into unfamiliar territory. It's almost like chess is, I dunno, a game? Like, you're supposed to have fun? I know, crazy talk. 😀
Glad to help!
Love this! Please make more!
I don’t know why, but this was very instructive and entertaining- you da man!
Alex, I'd say your Caro videos (and London videos/course) are responsible for taking me from about 1200 to 1600 rapid in the last 5 months. Can we get a series for black against 1. d4?
^^^^
I would love to see some Slav/reversed London ...fits pretty well into the London/caro repertoire
Nice. I liked the chessbrah series using these rules. Its great that I can see the rules applied to Caro.
I wonder if you can do same with London. I bought your Chessable Caro and London courses. I just started learning London. I been familiar with Caro for a few months though.
I just started playing chess in March and currently 820 rapid. Looking to break through 1000s with caro and london
IM loses to 500 rated player and missed 2 easy checkmates - title for your vid
Love your vids mate, my fav chess youtuber for sure!
Yessss!!!!! Great idea!
Oof... I like you Alex and I guess you obviously read one of my comments on a Chessbrah video... You've even used the same graphic Aman used in his amazing Building Habits series.
I think this is a bit close to the mark in terms of content influence (and I'm being ultra polite here).

Just started learning the game, so this series will be perfect❤
I'm stuck 900-1000, hope you can climb there with this account soon! I watched all your other carokann videos btw
I've just reached 900 after six months starting from scratch. I had never played a single game before that. How long did it take you? I'm hoping to get to a 1000 rating. That would be so great! I'm thinking about buying Alex's Caro and London courses. Maybe Gotham's too.
@@PedroDiMaggio-dk4lbI’m 869 and it’s taken just under 2 and a half months. Apparently once you reaching a thousand it gets easier, I know a couple of people who have went to 800 and 900 to 1700 in around 6-8 months
@@PedroDiMaggio-dk4lb you're doing good bro, I've reached that rating in 6 months too but I don't really hav time to play often.
idk man, it might be a tough goal for him
29:45 "Umbrella Pawn," said GothamChess!
romanian chessbrah 🔥

@@Ben_C01 why not
instructive. i would argue it doesn't matter what opening you play under expert level. If you maintain piece safety and scan for unguarded pieces you will win more often that not.
3:59. Rook on d1 and knight on d2 constitute the Murphy Wall. White king is 'on the block', no square to move to. The first SOP is to look to the knights to checkmate. Second SOP is to look to the bishop and queen for a diagonal attack.
Alex has the polls to a science. Asks if we would rather see more Caro videos, or Building Habits videos. Does both in 1 video. GG
You did the bishop line now. Btw you are gonna to face the tal line. I still love the c5 variation. You videos helped me a lot on the caro kann. You are genius guy. I used the caro kann sucessfully in otb tournament.
Wow, I never thought any of the streamers on youtube would ever be brave enough to bring up the topic of big black centers, well done Alex!
I'm at 525 now and I've climbed from 200 thanks to your videos. Thanks!
Love your videos! I think some credits to Aman would be nice though ;)
Read description
@@AlexBanzea That's SUCH an under the radar credit. Not every person who watches a video on CZcams opens the credits. You're truly trying to pass this off as your own.
@@user-zx8lp5qj9s right 💀
@@AlexBanzea interesting, I was sure I read it before I wrote the comment. Sorry if I missed it.
@@kovpas no worries mate!
"I'm expecting for him to take on f6, but he could literally do anything right now......like hang a knight, for example!" 😂😂😂
Why did you stop making this series, would be very interesting
This looks spot on for this rating range. I taught science & math and you have to meet the students where they are, which you've done. Kudos!
I just saw the match in a Romania Park where you beat Dina and she didn't know who you are - London system my man! !!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for this video
Most welcome!
I absolutely love this series! It helps a lot to hear “beginner tips” from you, even though I consider myself an intermediate chess player. Makes it a lot easier to get more grip on all the theory :)
Cuz of your belief in the CARO-KANN ,it has got me hooked and your teaching style is fresh and unique. Please do a rating climb with caro kann and vienna openings spclly the caro. But whenevr i try the caro online,it never goes as demonstrated....i know these are good building habits but being a GM/IM sees the board in a different way which we will never get.
Pointing out the brilliant tactics but playing the "safe" move anyway is an excellent teaching strategy. Love the idea for this series. If I can suggest for this series, could you show the typical variation with Bishop F5 instead of going into the Tartakower? I think most beginner players wouldn't want to go into such a sharp attacking line when attacking the Knight with the Bishop is a lot more natural (and you have a lot of other videos showcasing the Tartakower).
Hikaro Nakamura avoid the Tartakower Structure, typically.
@@Martin_Ditzel I know, but I'm not a fan of Hikaru's videos.
The bbc thing got me haha
At the position on 33:18, would the move Ne3 not be a viable fork because of counterplay?
40:02. The better move is 1.---P-d5. This pile up works because that pawn is no longer pinned to the king.
Same, i look forward for not so simple rules for 900-1000
Enjoyed the series and your videos in general. You are my second favorite Caro CZcamsr behind Gotham :)
Alex is far better than Gotham now. Levy has sold out big time.
Hi Alex, do you do one on one coaching?
I wonder how you can so perfectly imitate the voice in my head.
No chessbrah shout-out 🥲
2:22 ha! This sounds like a reference to my comment on the "This INNOCENT Move..." video. Good sense of humor if it is
Hey alex, i liked the Brah Series on building Habits too. I suggest you add new context for the future for previous mistakes made and make a mental note on how we apply our new 'knowledge'. Also would like this Series to be for both black and white pieces (personally i would hope for a Jobava Series up to 2000-2300). I really enjoy all of your Videos and i suggest you post the Videos more frequently/daily if you can to boost you Channel as it needs to have more subs than you currently do :)
Edit #2: I didnt like that you didnt take the hanging Rook in the last game although ur rules state you should. Probably against the Character of the Series ;-)
This is cool, I will be playing alongside with you against a handicapped chess engine to mimic the lower rated players till you reach my blitz rating of 1500.
I am saying this as a huge fan, but I think Caro Kann is not a great beginner opening for black in 500-600 range. As someone who started in that range with the jobava and caro openings based on Alex's videos -- Jobava was great, but I really struggled and got suffocated with Caro.... maybe I am anomaly, but I had way more success as beginner with Kings Indian. I am now passed 1000 and have come back to Caro and it is working good now though
5:35 did hi just miss knight d3 forking the king and the queen?
The Rules prevent any tactic, and says he must 'take free stuff'.
- Mom can we get chessbrah?
- We have chessbrah at home
chessbrah at home:
(no offence, just joking, keep up the good work xD)
I just started playing chess a few months ago. I can solve puzzles as highly rated as 1800 but manage to lose games to 700 rated opponents. Is this normal?
Super good video and new series! I have a question. I know in the advanced, your recommendation is 3. c5 for most people, particularly lower elos. Under what circumstances might you suggest one explore the main lines 3. Bf5? I realize there is more theory and some scary lines involved.
Over 2200 fide I would say.
The queen fork in the first game 😭
Good, but maybe a bit over the top with the 500
Moves 😂, especially for the opening
Very good video. V3ll structured, thats most impirtant
4:04. 1.----Q-a4. Smite on c2.
Hey Alex! I really like the idea for this series! Will be interesting as you climb the elo!
Sweet. Was hoping this upload would be soon. The caro course has been phenomenal too btw.
SHAMELESS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
5:25 why not knight D3?
4:10 - Why not sac the bish instead of the queen?
Ripped everything off of the Chessbrah channel. Bruh at least be original in the thumbnail and the wording... smdh
Are you paying royalties to Aman for duplicating his idea? 😅
Don't support this guy
I don't understand why you are always starting with Black, does this Caro-Kann only work with Black starting?
Yes
Friend, don't forget to mention Chessbrah in your Building Habits videos. Aman was not glad, he didn't feel flattered enough.
Shamelessly stolen from chessbrah, not even shoutouted in the video, barely mentioned in the description.
"Barely mentioned in the description"... dude, there's a whole line there with a link to the chessbrah Building Habits series.
@@jtekholm But Aman isn't flattered enough. It may have serious consequences. Stop playing with fire
5:34 you had a queen fork with the knight on d3 😕
nobody hangs free knights n bishops when am playing😝
Didn’t fancy the King / Queen knight fork in the first game then (Kd3+)?
Or would that be considered a tactic?
Had free piece to take
@@AlexBanzea Damn rules 😂
It would be nice if you just adapt the rules slowly while climbing the ladder (i.e. at 1000 elo sacs available and no longer forbidden). What do you think?
Mainly because you will get more realistic gameplays at a higher level
We play c5 against the advance because Botvinnik did it against Tal and drew
So it has to be good
Fast learner haha
"Oh, I ran out of time..."
I’ve watched all your other caro videos and this one helps me clear up so many nebulous areas, thank you!
❤❤❤❤
1200 blitz-1500 rapid here- I would prefer some more advanced content. Still I have been to squeeze some useful thinks, here and there...
I love the videos! the pacing and logic are very easy to follow.
Hey Alex, just wanted to let you know that you've been fundamental to understanding plans in the middle game. Appreciate your work! Maybe we can collab one day if you want to teach an amateur haha.
Forte bene
5:27 missed royal fork here
Lessssssss goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Hi Alex! It would be cool if you could play against us subscribers during this speedrun :)
I want the old commentary back please
I cant even get out of 200 rank.. need heeelp
Don’t tell Aman Hambleton about this series!
caro is solid tho
Game 5 was the best, Jjajajajajajajajajaj
Interesting how one can win just by following basic principles and letting the opponent hang himself.
I miss the tactics
Aman just made a hit-piece on you in the introduction to his latest Sicilian Speedrun... called you "scummy" etc. I on the other hand feel that you were going to the "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery" approach, knowing your type of humor. I kinda understand that it could be seen as plagiarism, but you did give a shoutout in the description. I just hope you and Aman could've talked it in private, instead of him throwing you under the bus on live stream.
I really hope you and Aman can sort this thing out. Lots of love
Link & timestamp?
@@AlexBanzea’s on the “Chessbrah Vods ” account and it’s near the beginning of the stream. The latest video
It wasn’t a “hit piece” per se as the video wasn’t dedicated to bashing Alex, but he did make comments that he felt the mention in the description was a bit hidden and a more vigorous shoutout was warranted
@@banzaiburger9589 he also said "I don't feel very flattered. It's about how you feel. I don't feel flattered, so i was like trying to think to myself - man why don't I feel flattered right now?". It so hurts when I recall his words. Poor Aman. We need to do something to make sure he feels flattered.
Lmao 4:28
Kind of disappointed, not for the quality of the content but by how blatantly you ripped off Chessbrah's series. The graphics, the rules, the thumbnail, the caption, etc.... Wouldn't be surprised to see this video get copystruck
Thanks, Can you also do a Caro kann ideas video from 2000 rating and upwards?
So you stole Chessbrah content and I am guessing you were ashamed enough to stop this series since a new episode still hasn't dropped, but you're not ashamed enough to take the vid down because it will get views. Gotcha
5:41 you took a free bishop but could have forked the queen and king
I started out as a 500 player, when i decided to learn something about debuts. I looked at a few of them for black and white, decided that caro-kann is best for me when playing black. after that I found this channel and subscribed. :) I like your vids on this debut, I like this video with simple moves as well, my rating goes up :) thank you, vids are fun to watch, also very instructive 😂
Hi Alex, great to see a building habits for black with the caro ❤. It would be too much to ask for a counterpart with white? Maybe intercalating with building habits with black…
Will do London
Oh shit this is perfect, I've been binging all your Caro Kann videos and was just about to run out of videos
