  • This is a step by step guide on how to tap the oem wiring for the tail light on a 3rd Gen Tacoma in order to power a brake light. This is specifically used for a camper shell, but the process will be the same for a trailer or anything else.

    So, does it flash when you use the hazards? The high mount is supposed to be an independent circuit. so when the indicators or hazards are used, drivers behind you can still see clearly that you are braking by light of the CHMSL. But tapping the Stop signal from one side of the tailgate is gonna cause issues. Wiring this way will cause the CHMSL to 'flash' while the Left-hand Indicator is in use; and in turn, causing the CHMSL to flash while using hazard indicators. The bid problem with that last one is, If you're driving the heavy rain and decide to use the hazards and slow down, the drivers behind you will never know if you're using your brakes. if you're CHMSL is wired to to flash like a taillight, it will never go solid to alert drivers of your slowing down. I'd recommend picking up the signal straight from the brake pedal switch if it's a last resort kinda thing. there's gotta be a better way that this.

    Do you have a problem with the third brake light come on when turn signal is on?

    • @elultimo102
      @elultimo102 Před 2 lety +3

      On mine, the signal is a separate bulb on top. The brake is on a double filament bulb with the tail light. It's just a question of the right wire of the pair. Unless they changed it on the later models, you should be OK.

    Unfortunately this didn't work for me. Tried to ground on the bed side, didn't work. Tried to ground at the light didn't work. Maybe I got a bad light? Just got my shell.

    What gauge sae connector should I get? And, can I use a 1 to 2 sae splitter from the left brake light to connect an interior cabin light in addition to the 3rd brake light?

    Why did you have to re-do it? Why did you add in the add-a-fuse after the fact?

    • @BlazzinTech
      @BlazzinTech  Před 4 lety

      Hey Will, I got the shell used and this was the wiring that I received. Perhaps the fuse was added to help protect the brake light? I had to re-do it because the person that did it did not do a good job at all!

    • @willpowell2938
      @willpowell2938 Před 4 lety +1

      Raja Kumar ahhh, so there was already an add-a-fuse when you got the shell? I see. Thanks for the reply!

      @@willpowell2938 Of course dude!!! Please make sure you seal up your tacoma properly before adding the shell...I have one video on that.....those 2 corners are a nightmare...

      @@BlazzinTech Oh yeah, no doubt. I soldered the attachment, wrapped just that spot in electric tape, heat shrinked on top of that, then used a loom coil from Home Depot over that, and then finally electric taped on top of that. Should be good to go! Also, I have it over a Softopper, not a hard shell:

    Do you recommend disconnecting the battery before installation?

    • @BlazzinTech
      @BlazzinTech  Před 4 lety

      I did not disconnect the battery before doing the wiring! I don't think it is crucial to do so, but if you want to be safe, I would disconnect the negative and wait for 5 minutes.

      Id like to know this too. I'm trying to do this for my 2017 Tundra which requires a 3rd brake light wire and constant + for accessory(Tool bin lights)
