I’m a 58 yr old Englishman who had upper and lower metal braces fitted for the first time ever on 08/11/23. My teeth have always been quite straight although, with age, my lower incisors had started to crowd a little bit. My main issue though has been a worsening deep bite and consequent warring of said lower incisors. My cheeks were cut up for the first couple of weeks but I’ve never had any pain at all from my actual teeth despite powerchains being installed on my lower arch from day one. I’m now on a 16/22 upper wire and 18 lower wire but although my lower canines have de-rotated my lower molars are not moving at all and I’ve not seen anything noticeable happen to my upper arch. I suppose I’m at that 2.5 month stage when I’m getting the feeling as to whether it’s really worth all the time, money and hassle bearing in mind my teeth were quite straight and no one notices a deep bite anyway! The trouble is, gaps have opened up that I didn’t have before so if I have my braces removed, my teeth are now in a worse state than they were before!
I’ve had upper braces for 5 months (3 adjustments) and bottom for 2 weeks. I kind of have regret as my upper weren’t that crooked, now I want to remove them, will they relapse to the way they were before treatment, given the short time I’ve had them on?
