Oh my goodness. He sang this at the beginning and end of the show in Waterville, Maine last night and asked the audience to sing along and I got tears in my eyes both times. So pretty and so hopeful. ❤️
I had the same reaction. Such a sweet conclusion - and counterpoint to a wildly amazing performance - that brought the audience together in community. The spontaneous harmonies from the audience were so moving.

Anyone notice how the last note of this song is the same as the first note of the record (on the title track)? And the last line is "we stood shaking hands and singing our song," and the first line of "Laysongs" follows that up with "oh, but then what shall we sing?"
The whole album is a loop, which is also how I like to listen to it. Brilliant!
I've always like this tune, and Chris's minimalistic approach is just perfect.
