  • I got the trailer and length extension upgrade to my HM122 sawmill, the BushlanderXL offroad trailer.
    I also got a few other accessories, toe board, adjustable blade guide, and trailer tool box.
    It all came together really nice, and I am greatly pleased with Woodland Mills bushlander sawmill, their instructions, and my new machine upgrade. I assembled the kit over a couple of evenings.
    It of course takes a few tries to sort out the new usage details, and you can see a few of my mistakes, like forgetting to put the saw locking pins in place even after pointing out that I need to put them in! Leveling the bed seems like it's going to take 1 log just to get the feet settled. The side I am working on acts like it wants to dig in a bit and the bed goes out of level and the saw starts to roll down hill when it didn't just a few minutes ago.
    I did figure out what the wobble was from - when I first set the mill up the cables used to keep the track and wheels clean where too long and I squared the mill up with the cables under the wheels. When I adjusted the cables, the saw was no longer square to the track. I did flip the cables over while I had those parts off to install the transportation lock.

    Thanks for the video - I’m seriously looking at this sawmill as an option and it’s nice to see how it converts after buying the trailer attachments 👍 it seems like a solid, reliable tool

      The HM122 trailer is off road only. The bigger mills will have street legal trailers available.

    I thought really hard about going with a trailer kit, but then I saw people saying they were still going through some stuff with leveling and adjusting. So that scared me off and made me decide I need to build a shed and a permanent base for the mill and just sort out the workflow for my site. So I am still in the planning stages myself. Trying to watch everything I can to get ideas about what works, and what doesn't and how it might fit my own situation. Thanks for sharing. I do love how portable that made your mill.

      If I had a place to put the mill permanently, it would get a shelter and no trailer. I figure it's easier for me to pull cut boards down off my hills than whole logs.
      I've moved it twice now. Moved it to the log piles.
      It is tedious to level the trailer.
      I added this trailer after the fact. It was always in the plan, just not in the budget. It's always an option for later if you find a compelling reason.
      With it on a trailer, I need to worry about theft more.

      @@MikeCreuzer I love the trailer mobility idea. I think there would be some opportunity to even pick up some side work with a mobile mill on the trailer in my area where the customers want you to come to them. I had assumed it would be easier to setup and level up. Then after watching more vids I noticed the down side to my plan with the trailer! LOL Love the mill and what you are doing. Looking forward to what you are doing, learning and where you are going with your channel.

      @@Longsnowsm if you are getting Woodland Mills, the 122 trailer is off-road only while the 126 and 130 are Street legal. We can probably put different wheels, fenders, safety chains, and lights to make it Street legal, but that gets to be a lot. I am actually looking for a big tandem flatbed trailer that can hold a UtV and the mill at the same time.

      @@MikeCreuzer When I was looking at the Woodland Mills I was going to go for the trailer option with the HM130 which appears to be highway legal, but I decided to go with a different mill than the Woodland Mills. The mill I ordered the trailer option is only for transport and not for use while milling. So it has to be put on the wheels moved, and then taken off the wheels and leveled to be used. That really didn't make any sense to me at all so that made the decision even easier to pass on the trailer option for the mill. A tandem flatbed would be really nice. I have been watching the vids with the guys who have been building arches for the flatbed trailers for loading logs that has peaked my interest. A flatbed would have a million different uses so that would be a valuable addition for sure.

    I think its kind of cool that you can move the whole thing around by hand if you have to. Nice setup, sure does have its advantages being able to move it around like that.

      That's a thousand pounds. I was more steering it as it rolled down a shallow hill. But it will be handy to roll 1 thousand pound object to a many thousands of pounds stack of logs rather than the other way around.

    Hey there buddy how are ya? It’s really cool that ya got the trailer package. I like the fold down extension. I’m hoping woodland mills makes a folding extension for the hm130max.I would like to be able to cut 20 foot lumber. We have huge logs here and folks want long lumber and siding. God bless you and yours.

    • @MikeCreuzer
      @MikeCreuzer  Před 3 lety

      It looks like the long trailer (WoodlanderMax XL) can cut 16 foot, same as mine. woodlandmills.com/product/woodlander-max/#gallery[product-gallery]-3
      Looking at how heavy that trailer frame is compared to my baby mill, I doubt they will make a folding trailer accessory. You are running so much heavier metal than I am.
      I imagine you could order a normal extension and build your own extension to a XL trailer giving you that 20 feet of cut in a trailer.
      Maybe you could build the extension as a table that you use when the mill is 'at home' and only go portable with the standard 16 foot cut?

      @@andylynnpei nice! I like rolling the trailer to the logs rather than dragging the logs to the mill. It is a bit fiddly to level. Don't actually need it level, just flat, but how to tell when it's not level?

    • @andylynnpei
      @andylynnpei Před 2 lety

      @Mike Creuzer lol.... I don't want to leave my mill out. So I set it up and took it down 5 times...since I had it November 2020, cut a few days to 4 or 5 days to do the job. Then dismantle it and put it in. That gets tiring. Though i built a dolly to roll the head in and out of garage and it was easy to put on the rail that way, as I made the dolly to rail hight for my ground setup. I put the head on alone several times.
      The rails and extension, I got to where I can have the three bed sections down (my adult sons help he get it all out) but I could line it up in about 15 minutes once it was set in place, all three sections. Took a while at first to "get it" but then it clicked for me.
      But I just got tired of that. Now I can roll it out by myself, and aligne it my self. Without bothering them. More than I wanted to spend but ordered the 16 footer.
      Thanks for hob knobing. Appreciate that.

    After using this mill for a while, do the rails on the foldable extension stay lined up with the rails on the main part, or do you find you have to keep adjusting them?

    • @MikeCreuzer
      @MikeCreuzer  Před rokem

      I broke one of my latches so it doesn't stay perfect. I find that I tend to park the mill on the extension and not cut on it, so the miss alignment isn't a problem for me. When I cut a long log, I true up the extension.

    Why did you not lock that small log down when squaring it???

    • @MikeCreuzer
      @MikeCreuzer  Před 2 lety

      It was heavy for its size. That was also a sharp blade. Didn't really need it. If it was taller, I would have locked it.
      Could be why some of my lumber is inconsistent.

      I have recorded bits of a video of how I am leveling. I need to record one start to finish.

    • @MikeCreuzer
      @MikeCreuzer  Před 3 lety +1

      Time...
      The first time I setup the mill in the ground it was hours spent leveling it as I was assembling it. Every time I used it after it sitting, it would be ten-15 minutes to re level it and check it.
      The trailer is maybe fifteen minutes?
      It's not a hard process, just fiddly.

      This is the 9.5.
      I think it was Sawing with Sandy who said in one of the videos something along the lines "nobody ever wished they got the smaller engine."
      The local Kentucky hardwoods do make the 9.5 work. Having had the 9.5, I doubt I would be satisfied with the 7.
