Back in the 1960's, we had a cousin who was killed by her husband. They were in the middle of a divorce over his out-of-control drinking and abusive behavior. As he walked into her house waving a gun, the neighbor who was there visiting was shot in the arm as she tried to run out of the house to get help. He sat their 3 young children on the couch, told them to say goodbye to their mother, shot her in the head, and then shot himself, right in front of the children. Those poor kids were still sitting on the couch, spattered in their parents' blood, and nearly catatonic when police arrived. Mental illness and anger are a deadly combination.
And the outcome would have been different if he hadn't had a gun.

Domestic violence is about power and control. The news stated that she filed for divorce, ( the most dangerous time when trying to leave a violent relationship). He was losing the power and control he apparently believed he was entitled to ,over another grown adult. That horriable saying " if I couldn't have her no one can". May the wife and children RIP. I hope someone else can learn from this horriable injustice.

Lisa I think you nailed it. He clearly didn’t treat her right so she wanted out. His response to her wanting to leave is consistent with treating her badly and not respecting her. To him, she was worthless and so were her children she loved. Image was also clearly very important to him. The perfect family photos…. The church-going family…. The thought of having everyone know he failed at loving his wife was too much for him to bare.
He was selfish and self-centred and only cared about himself.

In some cases, there were never any signs the husband was going to turn violent. You never really know what someone is capable of.

Yes yes yes. My mother told no one of her plans, had my sister and I pack an overnight bag, then took us to a friend's home under the guise of just a normal sleepover. From there she had the divorce papers served to my father. She only returned to the home once to pick up what she could. Learned years later she made that lone visit after carefully listing exactly what she wanted, where to find everything, and while escorted by two brothers, one armed standing guard just in case. The house looked ransacked when they got there, making it harder. Items like her jewelry had already been thrown out or destroyed. She had planned to pick up our beloved pets, yet my father being angry at her betrayal had kicked the cat out of the house and given away our dog. Thankfully the cat saw a car pulling into the driveway and mom was able to scoop her up to bring her where we were staying.
Don't divorce white guys, you're stuck if you don't like it. Just find another wife in a similar situation, maybe start a group and meet, talk about life being stuck with someone you can't get rid of

This happened to a friend of mine. Her Dad chased her through the house stabbing her to death. When her Mom and two sisters came back from a volleyball game he shot all three to death. He then turned the gun on himself and he died. This was in 1991. It was devastating.

My aunt was killed by her controlling, abusive boyfriend, in front of her sister, who was also shot. They were all riding down the road and an argument broke out between him and her, him accusing her of wanting to leave him, saying he couldn't live without her, but in reality she never said anything to that sorts because she was too scared too, when they pulled up to the house they all 3 got out and pulled out a gun shooting my first aunt 3 times, once in the head, and then the other one twice, before turning the gun on himself.
Thank goodness her children weren't with her and stayed at our grandma's house for the night because he would have shot them too.
My aunt who survived lived with the bullets logged in her, the doctors were too afraid to take them out.
Spousal abuse is REAL! And most of the time he ends up leading to something traumatic, people say why don't they just leave? Because in that person's mind you are theirs and their not going to let you just up and leave that easily, they will start stalking and even threatening you and even your family to make you want to come back, I mean do you think the police are actually going to sit by your side 24/7 and make sure your safe? NO! And woman know this!
And if they can't get you back that way, then they will resort to something more violent.
I am so sorry that happened to your family. You are right. My ex was that way. He didn’t even want to be married any more and was already living with someone else. But he couldn’t stand the thought of me moving on. He was abusive throughout the marriage and I nearly was killed getting out. His excuse to everyone, was he didn’t want to pay child support. I didn’t even ask for it and we never got a cent from him. I raised our children on my own in spite of him blinding me in in one eye and causing me to have a TBI.

I was a neighbor to a family that this happened to in 2007. He even killed their 2 dogs.
He lost his job, his wife wanted a divorce and he took everyone out with him. Very hard to take. My thoughts are with all of those close to this family and in their community.

@@TheRealRusDaddy actually, their house is across from me and two over...nevertheless, it seemed odd to me that it had all happened and I never heard a thing. I know the sound of firearms of different calibers and regularly hear target practice a couple miles over at the gun range. It was unnerving that noone heard anything while it was happening. I may go back and look up the details on that, because I always meant to find out if there was a silencer, home made or otherwise, that was used. Even more unnerving.....the family was often off doing things, but very quiet while at home. The thing is, most of our street is quiet. It wouldn't stand out. So....no one noticed any signs.

I knew right away the dad committed this before I even watched the video. Idk whats wrong with society, and men who cannot handle rejection and behave so aggressively its sickening. My partner told me about 7 people being found dead in one house, I said I bet it was a murder suicide committed by the father. Family annihilations are not terribly uncommon and almost always committed by males. Just like school shootings. We really have some change and work to do as a society, and men should really start by taking a look at themselves.

Rule #1 if you ever feel like leaving your partner do it whilst they're at work never tell them before you actually leave I've seen too many cases like this and they could be preventable
If you have kids and you leave with them, the husband can get you charged with kidnapping unfortunately. You have to prove to the police with a report and everything that they give to a domestic violence shelter that he is dangerous and a domestic violence detective has to approve you leaving.

I can attest that leaving without an announcement and gaining distance is good.
The sad fact is that children are used as leverage to gain access.
You can be safe in a shelter for a brief time ( if you can find one that will take you and the children) but eventually court documents will expose you and the children.
The police were at that address before but if it was assault against the wife only then he still stood a good chance of visitation at minimum.
Get a concealed carry permit.
Carry without him being aware.
File for a restraining order.
Pray.
I had someone threaten me with gruesome murder and I know it sometimes comes down to being willing to risk death to be free.

That saying, “if I can’t have them, no one can” is a perfect example of this mans narcissistic behavior before he wiped out his whole family. I just cannot imagine those kids screaming “daddy no!” as they watched their mother, grandmother, and other siblings shot to death before the gun was then turned on them for their final moments. All in the hands of their father, the one they trusted to love and protect them. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Domestic violence is about control over others. Obviously there were issues if police were called to the home before on multiple occasions and her mother being there as a potential barrier.
The news anchor said that he didn't have a job anymore with Allstate in Ceder City. But they stated that his office called to report him as a missing person.

I fully believe there are times where HOLY SPIRIT protects us at certain times, special circumstances. For instance, i was gang raped young, but I can't tell you anything about the middle. All I remember is sitting by a beautiful waterfall, then back at situation at ending. I fully believe when my sister was murdered that in process GOD was very much with her!💪 She fought good & hard & was immediately with her savior! Where no one can ever hurt her again, & if I keep my heart & head right I will definitely be with her again! ❤ Despite injuries, she had a look of peace, & Mom & I knew why! She loved JESUS with all her heart!

As an abuse survivor I know the laws need to change. Everytime I see news like this I think about my own situation, I am constantly afraid that this happen to me or my family, I know for sure that my ex is crazy and does unbelievable things, even so police don't take it seriously. When someone is acussed ou been abusive towards wife and kids should at least be evaluated by a psychologist.

@@joinaletyere Been there, police even caused me to get injured by advising me to “try to work it out” with him. I ended up being blinded in my right eye and a permanent traumatic brain injury which affects my executive functioning and short term memory. So yeah, cops generally useless.

They obviously had an idea that something was wrong…most people/places wouldn’t call for a welfare check because someone missed an appointment.
My thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and the community.
That was my thinking too. Maybe a therapist, violence center or her lawyer? Had to be someone that knew something was going on, and/or something important she really wouldn't have missed. I imagine they tried calling numerous times too, then got worried.

This happened to a friend of mine’s parents when we were teenagers. In front of the kids the father chased the mom out of the house and shot her on the front lawn then shot himself. He survived, she did not. They had no sympathy for his injuries though I remember seeing him on the news being wheeled into court on a stretcher a few days later for whatever that first hearing is when you’re charged. My friend was the oldest and essentially became responsible for his siblings.

Forcing 10 year olds who were raped to have a BABY is abuse on top of the abuse they’ve already suffered. Bringing a baby into a life of addiction, or homelessness, or terminal illness isn’t a viable option to terminating an unplanned pregnancy. Not to mention the term “abortion” includes many necessary procedures post miscarriage, to save a mother’s life, etc. How many “unwanted” babies/children have you personally adopted? Or do you actually think a life in the system is a better option for these kids? Using your brain and a drop of empathy is grossly underrated here in the US.

Here in DFW we had a couple fighting over a large 2 story house during a divorce. He lost his bid to keep the house so he burned it to the ground, he set the fire and then shot himself in the garage. His family was left homeless because the "owner" set the fire and insurance wouldn't pay. Cowardly men with fragile egos do this crap.

Sorry but Mayor, neighbors & friends of this family or other families of domestic violence, rarely do anything to help women & children who seek to leave domestic violence situations. Mayor, friends & neighbors need to take action to create a plan & resources to help women & children to safely leave domestic violence partners, husbands.
