    I remember from a previous video, Peak Buoyancy Performance was not recommend as a specialty. I still did it for my MSD (together with wreck, deep, NO2 and drysuit) as PBP probably is the easiest specialty to get. It turns out been very helpful. My trainer helped me reduced the lead, and corrected the frog kicking. A correct trainer is much more important than the agent/course.
    Since then there is a significant improvement of ‘suck less’. Great work mate, I learned a lot from your channel. Wish you and the Dive Lite team have a fruitful 2023.

    As technical diver, recall buying my first set set of Wings from Sanford & Down in Plymouth in 1993. Loved them but being a hard back system I had to add a single cylinder mount. These days it is family time and enjoying coaching my 2 kids through junior open water, and my wife back into diving. The travel wing is perfect for the red sea, travel wings are great. I still have that wing and it still works after 29 years, built to last!

    A BCD's primary function is to allow you to strap a cylinder to your back, and giving a few pockets to put rubbish wrestled off the reef. Added benefit is helping you to bob at the surface.

    Dry weight is the same at 6.2 lbs and lift of 30 vs 34 both work for me, I can recover my buddy’s weights if needed.

    So 35 pounds of lift is more than enough if I’m using 30 pounds of lead and a single steel 80? If sounds like it is from your explanation.

  • @pbillings808
    @pbillings808 Před rokem +1

    I don't see how a 44 lb wing is unsuitable for HP100s, given that you are neutral at the end of the dive with an empty wing dipping into reserve air on AL80s. Total gas weight (overfilled HP100s) at the beginning of the dive is 17 lb, getting your head well above water takes about 11 lbs, and empty HP100s have 4 lbs more sink than AL80s. You would only need about 32 lbs of lift, well within the capability of a 44 lb wing. (That's even neglecting the wetsuit buoyancy regained when moving from 20 ft to the surface.) What am I missing?

  • @kevindavison6019
    @kevindavison6019 Před rokem

    Thanks for the info I have asked this question before. I was hoping for some techincal math formula to figure it out though. I use a 32# wing with a steel or AL tank on a stainless backplate with lots of weight to counter the buoyancy of my 7mm farmer john in cold water. It seems to work ok for me as a system with the buoyant wetsuit but if I take the rig off in the water it does not have enough buoyancy to float itself so i need to tie it off to the boat before i board.

    • @pbillings808
      @pbillings808 Před rokem

      You could move some of that lead from the rig to a weightbelt. You+7mm wetsuit would easily support 10ish lbs on a belt, and your rig would float without you in it. Plus, if you're climbing a ladder with your rig on, handing up the belt first makes that a much easier climb.

    • @jeffworst9939
      @jeffworst9939 Před rokem

      I have a similar rig with an HP steel 100 tank. Your steel backplate should be about 4-5 pounds. How much additional weight are you using when diving the steel tank?

    • @kevindavison6019
      @kevindavison6019 Před rokem

      @@pbillings808 Ive moved all the weight pecifically to to the harness so I could get rid of the belt. with a comercial dive boat isn't a problem. Diving from my personal boat (17 ft bowrider) is more of an issue as the ladder is small and can't support a lot of weight. so I have a short lanyard with a couple of climbing caribeaners I use to clip off the rig until I board and can pull it up.

    • @kevindavison6019
      @kevindavison6019 Před rokem

      @jeffworst9939 Před rokem

      @@kevindavison6019 With a 7mm suit, 4mm hooded vest under that and a steel 100, I dive with about 16.5 lbs. total (including steel backplate). Try to reduce your weight. Have you tried diving with the wet suit and steel tank? You should be able to go down to at least 20 lbs.

    It really annoys me, how most instructors don’t pay enough attention to correctly weighting students.
    There are simple formula to get pretty close to correct weight for a novice diver.
    I very rarely use a wing, because of my free diving days. My weighting is usually spot on for the depth I’m trying to be neutral at.
