    Thank you! You would be surprised at how terrible other videos on this topic were. I needed the logic behind that dayum seatbelt cable removal… Others grazed past it or were vague… This was helpful.

    Very helpful video. I always wondered how the seatbelt height adjustment operated. Now I know and of course I was too lazy to dig through the owners manual. I can't wait for the seat-twist video as both my seats now have twist in them.

    Ryan, thanks for this video! I am looking to replace the lower cushion on my driver’s seat in my E38 740iL so this video was helpful for removing the seat! Any ideas where the best place to find the seats themselves or even just the cushion? People seem to want $1000 for a terribly worn out cushion.

      I would check the new market, but I doubt you'll have any luck. Your best bet will be to find a good upholstery shop, or a gently used second-hand seat/cushion.

    Very helpful. I’ve got to pull mine and replace the switch. Switch itself works, but the stub that the button clips onto is broken.

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 3 lety

      The switch panel can be replaced with the seat still in the car, simply remove the side cover trim :)

      I suspected this after watching your video, but the also want to inspect and lug the the screw drive for back and forth which seems to be dragging a little. No twisting problem. Any thoughts on drive mechanism?@@E39Source

      @@stephenmcclung1773 Not quire sure what you mean there. If the seats are twisting, they need to come out for screw driver repair

    • @stephenmcclung1773
      @stephenmcclung1773 Před 3 lety

      E39Source I apologize for not being clear. I don’t have a twist problem. There is a lot more drag on the drivers seat motor when moving forward Vs backward. Just checking to see if you’ve had experience with this problem. I’m hoping it just needs lubrication. Another question: I want to replace my expansion tank. Task appears to be very straight forward with the exception of the two small hose connection at the filler neck. I haven’t seen a hose clamp of this type before. How does it remove and reconnect. Have you posted a video on this task?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 3 lety

      Stephen McClung Oh, I see. I have not yet dealt with that issue before, but you could certainly try greasing the track. Otherwise, something might be off which is causing the motor to bind. Regarding the expansion tank, you will need a pick tool to put in the middle of that clamp, and twist until it comes apart. You can then use side cutters to crimp on the new clamp. If you prefer, a simple screw-type hose clamp would work as well.

    Is the threads or mounting point for the seat rails supposed to move? I'm about to fix my seat twist issues and when I removed the passenger side bolts I noticed the bolt seemed "loose" while I was taking it out and the part where the bolt threads into moves around a bit. Is this normal for an e39 or did something break loose that shouldn't have?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 3 lety

      The 4 T50 bolts that hold the seat in should be very solid when tight.

    Minor, but yes I would do it! Clean the carpet underneath the seat when you do this.

    Bro, you have rebuilt this car. I don’t believe there is component on it that you haven’t replaced. How much do you think you have spent on it? Is in the region of $20k ? Please provide an order of magnitude, if not an exact figure.

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  Před 4 lety +1

      There are still many original components. I don't disclose the monetary figures, but it's much more than $20k. The engine build alone was more than this.
