Caledonia started off as a poem, written by Madeleine on the banks of the Moray Firth near Inverness in Scotland.
A love of “Caledonia”, the Latin name that the Roman Empire used for the Scottish highlands, is shared by all of the members of The Fretless. They have been fortunate to tour in the region multiple times, and have been deeply influenced by the fiddle traditions of the area. Together, The Fretless and Madeleine turned their adoration of Scotland into this song, a timeless-sounding folk ballad that is both new and rooted in tradition.
Ultimately, Caledonia is about letting ourselves be transformed by the beauty all around us. It is about always seeking to discover the best version of ourselves, and trying to find home wherever we go.

when Heaven finally collides with earth, in the fullness of God's kingdom come, I'll spend a couple thousand years living in the Highlands of Caledonia, though it may only seem to pass like a couple days, or a perfectly slow sunset.
