@@GardeningwithCreekside thanks so much. Always learn from you
Oh my goodness you guys sure are troopers! Your resilience is a learning moment! God Bless you two.
Jerry is so funny! âI donât want any kinda comments that âyou can save thisââ đ We know you know what youâre doing! Great video, yâall
Thank you, Jenny and Jerry! This is one of the many reasons I appreciate yâall. The presentations are very informative and applicable to true gardening about things that take place in real garden life. Messes and successes make me a continuous growing gardener. Thank you for continuous blessings in the gardenâ€. Love yâallâ€.
Wow, thank you for that kind encouragement!
Good Grief, what a year of calamities! What I get from this show is the importance of not losing your mind as you work through the different challenging problems. I am so impressed by your resilience! Remember the good that is coming
Good morning, Jenny and fellow gardeners. Much love and blessings from Trinidad †đčđč
So sorry your signature garden lawn was wiped out by army worms. I had noticed it earlier and thought it was the rain and heat. Iâm sure youâll have it looking fabulous in no time. I forgot to mention yesterday that your dragon leaf begonias on your front porch are to die for. Thatâs the best plant youâve grown up there so far. It also happens to be my favorite plant of all time. It definitely is maintenance free and looks so beautiful!
Jerry always to the rescue, The Signature Garden is still beautiful and we know Jerry wonât rest until itâs repaired. Your Caladiums are beautiful Jenny, thanks you two â€
I love your Caladium borders in the signature garden. I bet a lot of people learned about army worms. Now letâs hope you can close out this gardening season without too many more lessons in resilience for your viewers!
So sorry about the army worms in the Signature Garden. đą They have invaded the NC Sandhills as well. I did some research and it looks like they don't like zoysia grass, which is what we have. But will keep an eye on it. Thanks for the info, Jerry! Love the blend of colors and textures in the sign entrance garden!! đ„°
Maybe , a flagstone walk thru the signature garden ? Easy care , compared to the grass âŠ
Hard scape is always a rich looking addition. Permanent, no weeds and beautiful.
Jenny i did visit Creekside Nursery on Wednesday of this last week. It was a great experience. I was a bit bummed I didn't get to see you but I saw and talked with Cici, and Jerry. They also let me take a picture with them. It was so nice of them to take time out of their busy day to talk with us. Mary Claire and Andrew were also very sweet and chatted with us for a moment. Everything at the nursery was as beautiful as it is in your videos.
Thanks so much for coming to see us! I film our 5 videos throughout the week so it is hard for me to be at the nursery on the weekdays.
Good morning, JennyâïžThe Caladiums with the Dichondra Silver Falls is a stuuner!đ€©đ€©Such a bummer about the grass in the Signature Garden! Iâm sure you, the crew and Jerry will have that looking gorgeous again, soon! Have a Blessed Day đđ¶
Thank you for sharing the story about army worms. You just saved us from having our entire yard wiped out. We did the dish soap test and found we have army worms.
I hate you have them, but so happy that you were able to find them early!!!
Weâve been in our house for 30 years and only started planting caladiums last year, I just love them!! I never heard of army worms before and had to Google them. Iâm so sorry you have to deal with them.
I learned ( from you ) the advantage of starting my caladium bulbs earlier on a heat mat. Mine were lovely this year in South Carolina.
So sad about your grass! Good thing you are able to deal with the problem and treat it! Not all little critters are beneficial for sure. I hope your plan works out and solves the issue for you. Have a blessed day.
Jennyâs motto âKissâ Keep it Simple Sweetie đ just laughing cause my kiss is not her kiss! Love that yâall show the good , bad and other wise â€â€â€â€
Excellent video. Thank you for caladium tour & the teachable experience you have had to deal with.
Love love love caladiums!!! And all your videos. I am in zone 7b. I actually pull up my caladiums and over winter them in my garage. Then in May I replant them outside.
This was really informative. Never heard of army worms before this. I have an area by my foundation that is totally dead, I thought it was because they were cutting the grass to short. We will see when I do the detergent trick!!
A few years ago I noticed overnight dead patches appearing in my grass. I was looking closely and saw some blades of grass moving. Upon closer inspection I saw a little caterpillar looking creature. He hid straight up and down the blade when he noticed me. I called my lawn treatment company and they knew right away and came and treated. Of course thatâs a âspecialâ treatment so it had a âspecial â charge. đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł But got to it soon enough that living grass spread in to fill holes. Good luck with that. đ
Good morning,! We used caladiums for the first time this year. I will be putting then in again next year, I love the color they add to our shade gardens!
Oh my! Our grass has been struggling this year. It's barely 1 year old. It looks very much like yours. I'm heading out right now with a bucket of soapy water to see what I find. Best of luck with your grass. Thanks for sharing your messes, so we can all learn!
I always save my caladium bulbs and plant them the next year, saves so much money!
Sarah, do you use a heat mat when starting your saved caladiums like Jenny suggested? I was going to try to save some corms myself and start them next year but I donât have a heat mat. Just curious how crucial that is?
Please share how you do this, if you don't mind đ. How to store them, how to "wake them up", any tips and tricks. I plant to try storing mine this year
Thank you so much for giving us information on army worms!!!!!. I have never heard of thoseđł. Always something we have to deal with.đ
I live in northwest Virginia, 6b/7 and last fall, I just let my potted caladiums gradually dry out. Put them in the basement and about once a month, put a tiny amount of water on them. Brought them up in June, and about half of them sprouted once the heat really hit. Not a bad return on investment.
Yuck! Itâs stunning how fast they move thru a yard - our daughter & son-in-law lost most of a hayfield due to them that year
This explains all the caterpillars I saw while mowing and the brown patches in my lawn. Now that I know, itâs time for me to treat. Thanks Jenny, watching from Lillington NC â€
Good morning, thank you so much for sharing and always being honest today I learn about Army worms. I'm sorry they did that to the signature garden, but other the grass it looks beautiful. God bless
My first thought about a week ago was WOW, they've had a LOT of people at the nursery! Never heard of army worms, and wondered if it was related to jumping worms, which I only learned of this past year. You've taught me this is a separate nightmare. So sorry your beautiful garden succumbed to this. đą
I love your attitude! It is a chance to make it better .
Thanks Jenny and Jerry my husband said I mowed the grass to low. I showed him this video so now we buy spray our whole back yard is dead.
So sorry about the Army worms. When I first saw the grass my thought was you needed a good rain. Glad youâve treated it. I need to treat my beds and yard again for ticks and grubs as the moles are crazy
We had army worms earlier in the summer that stripped several branches in our river birch, but I had never heard of fall army worms, and that they killed grass! So good to know! Thank youđ
I find grass to be the hardest thing to manage in a garden!
Iâve got 2 year old caladiums, just dig up, allow to dry, then store in a brown paper bag of vermiculite until spring. Same with elephant ears, non hardy bulbs, etc.
Great info!
You guys have had a rough year! Floods and now Army Worms. You have such a good attitude about these things.
Oh my gosh. Dreadful for your grass. I hope it recovers.
Excellent presentation, informative and entertaining.
Love the coladiums, I have a few but deffently want to get more. Love the lavender one, I have never seen that one before. So sorry about the grass, such an expense & hard labor to originally put down & now to do again, so sorry.
Jerry, I have not heard of army worms before. I was sitting in the garden and saw little catapillers every where. I didn't know what they were. Now I know. We have weeds not grass but still. I'm just glad to know what they are. The birds need to do their job. đź. Dish soap to the rescue!!!! Thanks Jenny, I'm enjoying my Caladiums and thanks Jerry for the info.
Iâm in SC and have army worms too. Iâve never heard of these things before.đą
What a shame that happened! Jenny and Jerry you work so hard at what you do with your propert! This to will pass! It will look beautiful again! â€
Thank you for sharing your lawn dilemma. I think that is what happened to our lawn, although I caught it a little sooner. Enjoy the videos and learn so much about living in the south with red clay.
I LOVE Caladiums too!!
Can I make a suggestion please? That is just terrible about your grass, but why don't you guys get rid of your grass in the signature garden and put edging around every bed and just throw pebbles in the walkways where the grass is, a lighter shade pebble or stone. The beds will stand out and the contrast will look beautiful. It will just look stunning... And no more worries about worms in that space. đThanks for all the informative videos...God bless and lots of love from South Africa. â€đșđ»đșđ»đđ
Would the pebbles make it hard for people in wheelchairs and walkers to get around? Grass seems easier to wheel around on to me. đ€·đ»ââïž
@@kimt9797, I agree and I think the grass makes it look cooler in our hot summers. Itâs also more comfortable to walk on! â€
đđđ
â@@kimt9797good point! đMaybe paving? Although it is not such a big area to have paving, even when it gets hot. With wheelchairs it will be difficult with grass, because it's difficult to push a wheelchair on lawn anyway. Have a great day! God bless.
LOVE LOVE Caladiums. I live in florida zone 9a. We have had hot hot humid weather this summer and they have always looked amazing. Love seeing some new varieties to add to my yard.
You have taught me something this morning, I had never heard of army worms. Don't have the problem as of now, but this is good information to have. I am sorry this has happened to you guys. You have had a rough year.
Oh my word! The same thing has happened to us. Our daughter is getting married in our backyard in October & ARMY WORMS!!! They wiped out our entire lawn! We killed them, fertilized & will be reseeding very soon. Praying for miracle grass in north Louisiana, lol! I'm not usually one to comment but I had to this time. Jenny, my best friend & I love your channel! â€
Oh no!!!! Praying for a beautiful wedding đ
@@GardeningwithCreekside thank you! She will be married either way, lol!
So Jenny and Jerry, what did you treat the grass with to kill the army worms? So sorry that happened. But it will be beautiful once again after re-sodding. đ
Love my caladiums already on list for next year but MORE of them!!!
Oh my gosh! Those must be a mean hungry hoard, and fast workers too. Army worms, I had not heard of them but will be aware from now on. Thank you for sharing this information with us.
It is always interesting and I learn alot of new stuff! Never heard of those worms before. It certainly doesnât look pretty. I feel sorry for you, all that hard work and money going to waste! I feel the biggest lesson is to pay close attention to any small sign of trouble however buzy you are! As we all know that small signs can almost explode into catastofies if left unnotised. I love that you show all the glorious things but also the bad! So real đ Lots of love Eva â€ïž
Bummer about the army worms. I wonder if they are related to the invasive jumping worms that eat roots of plants. The grass was pretty but I think fine wood chips or decomposed gravel would be really pretty pathway material and wouldnât need mowingâŠ
It still looks pretty.
Caladiums, thanks Jenny n Jerry.
Wow when we were there in June that grass was green and lush! đź Thank goodness they don't eat the plants.
Wow. I did not even know about army worms. Yuck!
Your gardens are gorgeous! I bought some no name caladiums this year and have some in pots and ground, they just arenât doing great. I also planted some coleus and they are doing fantastic. I love the color that caladiums provide, maybe next yearâŠ
Our caladium queen đžđ»
Jenny, you made me want that beautiful proven winner plant. It's a shame about your grass, hopefully yall will get that fixed quickly.
I remember when I lived in South Carolina that the army worms were so thick on our lawn that you couldn't see anything but their movement. Ugh!
Good Morning! Everything looks so beautiful at your place! I am zone 7b east coast and this time of year I become very discouraged that my gardens look so pitiful. It doesn't matter that I have everything on drip, my fescue lawn on irrigatipn everything looks so tired and just worn out. Maybe it is the ar,my worms. Having to do lawn repair. I thought it was just that fescue doesn't like the heat. Thank you for the information. I will do the army worm test.
Do the army worms feed exclusively on grass or will they also eat roots of the plants in the adjacent flower beds once they run out of grass? Good luck getting on top of this; it sounds like you have already developed a plan of attack. It would be so helpful if you could update viewers as you fix this and also share what (and when) you will do next year to prevent a repeat. Thank you!
Jumping worms in the flower beds and army worms in the grass, gardening isnât for wimps !!
I grew caladiums for the first time this year - and wow- they are one of my new favorite plants. Can they be over wintered as houseplants? I think they would look pretty with Christmas and winter decor.â€
Had experience with army worms with a neighborâs house. New lawn, gone in two days. Happened in the spring and he was able to treat and put down new lawn. Thought someone said they blow in on wind. But, he was the only one to get them. Only new lawn too. Devastating.
They love new lawns
Good morning GWC Family! Jenny do you ever over winter any plantâs or do you have easy access to all these plants you just donât need to bother with it?
Jumping worms do the same thing. I hear they have made their way north from the south. We have lost golf courses everywhere because of them.
My deer love them!
Good morning! Caladium is in my list for the next season. Thanks
We had them a few years ago - even after applying grub prevention!
Oh my gosh!!! We just treated our lawn Thursday for army worms. This is first time in our 10 years living here where this has happened. From what our turf managers told us this is a bad year too. What made it worse this year? Our weather has been about the same as last year?
If I could only have one plant in my garden, it would be caladiums!
CraaaazzzzyâŠdo you think the army worms were brought in with the sod? Sorry if you said already and I missed that.
I'm so sorry! We used to have them in our hay fields. That's so bad! God bless ya'll! đźâ€đđ
Do you mind sharing what insecticide you suggest to prevent this? We plan to oversees in fall and def want to add that step :). Thanks for sharing!!
So sorry about your sod đą those darn army worms are the devil
Never heard of army worms. So destructive
Good morning Jenny and jerry. Is there a preventive you can put down so you won't get these army worms? Gardening is never a sure thing Unfortunately. I love caladiums as well. Have a blessed day the Oklahoma gardener.đ
Are army worms more of a soutern problem? I've never heard of them in Ohio.
Those army worms got my yard too.
I live in Jacksonville North Carolina

The army worms destroyed our whole yard 2 years ago in several days!
Wow đ€© the sign bed is gorgeous!! Amping up the shade gardening game †so sorry to hear about your grass đą maybe replace it with pea gravel and edging?
If itâs not one thing, itâs another. Sorry you have yet another project to deal with, how long will that take? A few days?
Wow should I feel lucky to have weed lawn?
You have sod web worms. I've never heard sod web worms being mistaken for army worms (the latter are large and destructive compared to the tiny worms and adult moth of sod web worms). I've had web worms several times, but if you spray at the first sign (normally late summer here in Florida), everything is fine.
No, we have Army worms. We have photos of them that we did not share đ
â@@GardeningwithCreeksideI'm in New Brunswick, Canada, and what we call Army Worms are completely different. They are about 1.5 to 2 inches long and destroy our trees, not our grass. The moths lay the eggs in huge webs in trees. They hatch and eat the leaves. My mother said in the late 50s her property was invaded by them. You could see them marching in a line like an army up over her father's garage and down the other side. So what you call Army Worms are completely different in other parts of the world.
@@kimt9797 if you would like to learn more about the Fall Armyworms that we have present here in NC & the southeast US, hereâs a great article from NC State University turf.ces.ncsu.edu/insects/fall-armyworm-in-turf/
Wow! I have never heard of army worms. I am in Central Indiana so I likely wonât have to deal with those here. I love caladiums. I bring mine inside as houseplants for our zone 6 winters. I hope you get your lawn issue taken care of without too much trouble. Love your channel and your open heart đ©·
Thanks for sharing this info. â@@GardeningwithCreekside
Jerry - I did the test and definitely have army warns. Thanks for sharing the test. Any chance you can share what insecticide you chose to get rid of them? It can be confusing to n ow which to use.
Talstar
Caladiums are wonderful. Do you water them alot?
Ok lol you've answered my question in the video
Can you give the names of your other caladiums besides the White Star? I'm thinking about trying some next year. Thanks
What kind of hydrangea is pink in the shade flower bed? Thank you
What do army worms look like? Are they like fishing worms?
Army worms different than grubs? We are treating our yard now for that.
Oh no! Iâm so sorry. Shout the army worms. I just love grassy pathways, etc.
Hi đ Jenny
Hi Jenny. One of the things I discovered this year was caladiums. love them. But one thing I can't seem to get right I think is the water. They seem to flop on me in containers. Any recommendations on how much water to give them?
I live in central PA and Something is eating my Hubiscus. Almost all the leaves are gone. I found a beetle. Itâs not a Japanese beetle. Could it be that?? Any advise would be helpful.
Sorry about your grass.
