- Michael had a very difficult childhood in Hartlepool, England. His dad wasn't around when he was young -- and then when Michael was 17, just after they'd rekindled their relationship, his dad passed away. Hearing his father say he was proud of Michael for singing left a lasting impression on him and drove him to audition for IDOL.

I lost my dad at 15. I am 52 and I still miss him. The hurt and pain rears its ugly head at random moments but it never ever goes completely away.
What a sweet sweet person. Dreams can come true. You just have to believe. His soul was on fire in that performance.
I cried! How many more children experience the same because of addictions! Stop, stop for the children. I am so glad he sang this song with that strong message. The best we can do is never, never repeat those ugly past histories. Awesome performance!!🤩👏👏
