Caltrans has Blasting technicians on staff for things like this. Much faster than trying to bring in an outside company, and this happens often enough to be worth it.
I live about 45 minutes from there but right off highway 50. There was almost no traffic for a few days since it was closed up the mountain. (This is highway 50 just outside Tahoe, you can see the lake and entire Tahoe basin from where this rock landed)
What they don’t tell you is that it took them about six months to do the environmental impact study on how much the sound would affect the surrounding environment
i mean yea...the most cost effective way...not like a crane or another piece of equipment was an option for that huge boulder...smaller chunks to ship or knock down. not sure why some people were shocked
If it was my local government, they would have sent one guy with a very small chisel to slowly chip away at it. There would, of course, be 10 other workers to stand around with signs and support the chisel guy.
I used to date a guy who worked for a mobile rock crushing site. They'd go and blow a big hole in the ground then set up their equipment and make gravel right there on site. I wonder if they're still doing it that way?🤔
"local officials" didn't do anything. They called a engineering company.
A demolition company
They did something. They made a phone call.
Who you gonna call??? "ROCK BUSTERS"
which still has to happen via local officials calling them after getting permission for it
@@ytzpilot This made me chuckle 😂
Funny thing they found a smashed coyote with a small umbrella
Should have just painted a new tunnel entrance on the wall.😄

Yeah, really because of all their mountains. Lol.
If it keeps Californians from exiting the state then we should've kept it there.

@@jeremyfitzpatrick7772 lol I agree. If only the liberals hadn't taken over, and their politics weren't stupid. The place is a beautiful area to live.
I honestly thought it was an A-10 Warthog hitting it!
That would be a bit more expensive but infinitely more epic.
Haha likewise buddy 👍👍😝
Bbrrrrrrrtttt

This reminds me of the beached whale incident in Oregon.
I know exactly what you’re talking about, a big ass piece fell and broke my dad‘s car

Loved that one everyone lost there minds jeez the whale was dead and they did say get back . but people never listen .

Legend says that while I was offline, I’ve been watching exploding boulders.
It wasn’t “local officials” it was a demolition company they called
Caltrans has Blasting technicians on staff for things like this. Much faster than trying to bring in an outside company, and this happens often enough to be worth it.
no way someone is that calm to narrate a boulder shattering into pieces
Yup knew it was gonna be Sierra Nevada 😂 always happens
Inside edition is the number one uploader on CZcams.
Hell no. I'm not driving on that road

Now that's funny.
Ur not funny

Rocks lives matter too. This is sick
“Ok John, we have two options, move the rock or explode it”
“I don’t know Rick I got to think about it”
…
…
…
“Blow it up”
“Explode it”
California?! I never knew it snowed there.
That was so satisfying
I WAS JUST THINKING THAT OMG… 🤣🤣🤣
in the slow motion of the explosion. it sounds like a gun
So did the explosive blow up on top end the shock split the boulder or did they drill down into the rock and put explosives in there too?
I live about 45 minutes from there but right off highway 50. There was almost no traffic for a few days since it was closed up the mountain. (This is highway 50 just outside Tahoe, you can see the lake and entire Tahoe basin from where this rock landed)
I thought it was a A-10 warthog at first but then I heard explosives
The most satisfying noise people say it makes you fall asleep instantly
I can't believe that they didn't have environmentalist shut this whole thing down. What about the carbon footprint?
Damn, that's a big rock! I'm used to rockslides on SoCal cyn roads, but it's big slides, small rocks.
Violence against Rocks! Shameful, ha, ha.
My dad farting be like:
Same sound as trade centers
A guy like me would’ve simply lifted the puny rock
My town must've thought the road was in the way and let a few explosives off.
That... Was.... AWESOME.
And the rock will roll

What a little baby explosion. That's nothing compared to what we do at work😂
Local officials?
Almost sounded like a warthog shot it apart.
Local officials my aching bloody ass!
That first pop I thought that was going to be it xD
This would make Hannibal jealous.
They blew that thing almost perfectly, little to no debri shoots out in all directions.
i mean yea...the most cost effective way...not like a crane or another piece of equipment was an option for that huge boulder...smaller chunks to ship or knock down.
not sure why some people were shocked
Just call the Rock. Fight rock with Rock
Now that was a real explosion
The end of the rock was a heart shape
Is that Hwy 50?
That sounded like a mini a-10
Damn that thing was huge
I used to do that almost everyday for work. When you blast on long sections of open ground it looks like a giant Caterpillar underground
If it was my local government, they would have sent one guy with a very small chisel to slowly chip away at it. There would, of course, be 10 other workers to stand around with signs and support the chisel guy.
They really called in a airstrike
I like these local officials
I'm surprised they were allowed to use explosives in California
They’ve been doing it for decades.
That sounds like me on the Toilet after eating something spicy
There is no problem so small that the proper amount of explosives can’t handle it.
Sounds more like a Gatling gun to be honest
and y’all think the pyramids were built by slaves 😅
I love the smell of explosions and falling debris in the morning.
Hours of prep for 30 seconds of boom leading to hours of cleanup.
Wait a minute it snows in California
I liked that boulder. That was a nice boulder.
In idaho that's called loose gravel 😅
They should have call the Flintstones
it's like an A10 brrrt run but 1000 times smaller
They actually used a A10 worthog!
lol I read boulder as builder
What left?
Did they use a A-10?
I used to date a guy who worked for a mobile rock crushing site. They'd go and blow a big hole in the ground then set up their equipment and make gravel right there on site. I wonder if they're still doing it that way?🤔
That explosion sounds like a bear 🐻 fart💨
🤣🤣🤣
They used an A10 Thunderbolt really.. She just speaks when it does Brrrrrrrrrrr...
That’s right above echo summit right after the caldor fire and snow came through.
Every month in Scotland 😂
The Sierra?
Very precise! Excellent
Local officials🤣 more like taxpayers hired a construction company
They wanted to use: fire in the Rock but realized Will Smith already copywrited it.
Sounded like they used an a-10
They must be doing this to Michigan roads too
Damn I thought for a moment that they used a mini gun against the boulder.
I need some of that rock for my backyard landscaping
Bro didn't even stand a chance
We put that boulder there to try and block Californians from spreading
Oh god all rock lives matter!!! That rock clearly had its hands up!
Less hot sauce usually solves that
Local officials can recoup the money by polishing the rocks and selling them as healing stones
That's what she said.
It sounds like a slower version of the A-10 brrt at normal speed
You mean a blaster who makes roughly 75k a year, the only person out of his area with the blaster liscense
I bet they loved breaking out the explosives lol
Anyone want to go for a drive with the adrenaline kick of massive boulders falling?
See the sights of California! 🪨 🧨🚗 🧨🪨
You know what's better coming to chicago and going for a late night ride and then getting shot at 12× explosive then that
looked and sounded like an A-10
Is it me or i just hear brrrrrt
Nooo patrick’s home!!!
Awe man!! This was only a short drive from my house and I missed it.
The boulder also missed you.
So I'd call it a win 🙂
Man I gotta get into demolition
