  • Demo of BluGuitar Amp1 by Tim Maple.
    I'm running this rig through Logic and there's a very subtle amount of reverb on the guitar. I also have the Amp1's reverb turned up to 3.
    The little bit of RF interference on the audio track is coming off my computer and has nothing to do with the Amp1 or speaker simulator.
    Must remember to do up my fly on the next demo.

    there is so much value for money in this little box, not to mention the portability you get along with it. Blug has done an incredible job with this. Finally an amp which sounds great, is versatile, portable and affordable.

    Great demo, so much better tone than Mr Blug's demos and thanks for adding the OD pedals, although I can't get on with the Vintage option.
    I've bought the AMP 1 myself now and am using the clean and modern options, both with a Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD and Rothwell Love Squeeze. The gain on the modern channel is on 4 for rhythm and all hell breaks loose with the OD added. The Sweet Honey OD lessens the inherent Marshall tone. The Nanocab is superb too.
    By the way Tim, I'm 53, lol !!

    Good demo. I really liked the low master / high preamp sound (2.57), but then my main guitar is a Les Paul, so I guess I prefer darker tones.

    Hi Tim, Thanks for your great review. Although I'd already bought the Amp 1 before seeing your review, I found your comments really interesting especially in relation to the settings on the Volume and Master levels. I was also inspired to investigate the Torpedo CAB which I have now bought and, like you, think it's pretty amazing with the Amp 1. I had to chuckle when you mentioned 'tweaking hell' as I have been there many times! In fact I have to tweak the CAB settings a bit when switching from headphones to monitors and wondered whether this is something you've noticed. What was your signal path from the CAB? Were you going into your DAW via interface and then through monitors? What monitors do you use?

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 7 lety

      Thanks Richard. The difference between the settings needed for headphone use and monitor use is a perennial problem, as is the difference the settings needed for high and low volume use. Generally I find you just need to tame the highs and lows a bit to sort it out, or even better, get the FOH man to do it for you - as he's the only one who can really hear what it sounds like in the specific venue.
      The output from the CAB is going straight into Logic via an Apogee Duet. I've actually now changed this interface for a UA Apollo, which I can highly recommend, particularly as it gets rid of any latency you might have in you system.

    NICE review~
    Excuse me, might I ask a question :
    Did you use rec out jack(or speaker out) from Amp1 to connect Two note cab?

  • @Witt42on
    @Witt42on Před 9 lety +1

    Hi Tim, great review and great playing. I recently bought the amp 1 and also the torpedo cab, this was as a result of your review as I simply loved the time you were getting ( even if it's only on you tube) I still haven't got my head around the set up yet and wondered if you could advise me.
    You say your going out from the amp 1 rec/ phones output and then into the IN on the torpedo. So does the OUT on the two notes go to your DAW / monitors etc. I don't do any recording at home so I was trying to hook up simply to a speaker cab but the results are very poor for me. Ive also got a an FX8 and wanted to utilise this into my set up but again I'm struggling to get a decent sound so I guess I'm not connecting things up correctly. I'm also curious how to get your set up to be relatively quiet. Mine seems to generate a lot of Hiss especially when I turn the master up past 5.
    In your video you say you prefer turning the master up and the volume down and I hear the difference. I get more hiss?

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 9 lety

      You only need the Torpedo Cab if you don't have a real speaker - it's a speaker simulator.
      If you're using a real speaker you simply connect it to the Amp 1 from the 8 ohms or 16ohms output, depending on the impedance marked on your speaker. Use proper speaker cable, not a guitar lead.
      Cheers,
      Tim.

    • @Witt42on
      @Witt42on Před 9 lety

      +Tim Maple thanks Tim yes I know the torpedo is a cab sim but I was only using my guitar cab to try it out for monitoring purposes. It's early days though so I'm sure I'm get to grips with the connections etc. I really like the idea of turning up at a gig with the amp 1 the torpedo and fx8 cheers

    Do you find the power amp modelling gives it more of a tube like feel when playing live Tim? Or is that irrelevant when using the Amp 1? I'm interested in using the Torpedo with a Helix and FRFR cab. I'm also very interested in the Amp 1.

    • @Wendy2068

    • @makmcqueen8634
      @makmcqueen8634 Před 9 lety

      Ok sounds great, I'm surprised the rec out appears to have some emulation already? So you bypassed the power amp sim on the CAB? I'm thinking of trying an AMT Pangea and the amp 1 and find one cab IR that sounds good enough to do what I need. Great demo btw.

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 9 lety

      Thanks Mak. Yes the "rec out" has some sort of analogue speaker simulation on it already, so I guess technically I'm simulating the speaker twice, but it seems to work. The built in speaker simulation is pretty basic compared to the Torpedo cab's IRs.
      In actual fact I do tend to use the power amp simulation on the Torpedo Cab too - this doesn't actually make any sense, and it isn't really necessary, but it just sounds better to me.
      Cheers,
      Tim.

    @Ju287V3 Před 9 lety

    Hi Tim great review. I like how you use it as a base for the pedals. The clean is voiced like a fender so that makes sense.
    Do you feel that it's slightly dull compared to a full valve amp?
    Al

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 9 lety +1

      Hi Al.
      No I don't find it dull at all - it has lots of "sparkle", and this sparkly-ness is also adjustable with one of the pots on the left hand side. The only time I find it a little muddy is when the volume (as opposed to the master) gets up towards 10.
      Cheers,
      Tim.

      Great Demo Tim! How are you able to turn the Master up so high as you say (8/9) without blowing the monitor speakers if it's s 100watt amp? I agree ur's a great sound but not sure how you are able to get that at bedroom levels if at 8/9 on the master volume it would be running around 60/70 watts? Would appreciate any info! Thanks.

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 8 lety

      +MJ Quinn thanks. I'll have to come clean and say I don't really understand the ins and outs of guitar amp power rating. I do know that solid state amps (and despite the little valve in it this one is mainly solid state), are considerably quieter given the same wattage than valve amps. My 35 watt valve amp is loud enough for any gig I do, but I once owned a 200Watt solid state Fender Showman which was about the same volume.
      Either way, it is no problem playing this at bedroom levels - in my demo the ultimate level control is on the Torpedo Cab, but I have run it direct from the Amp 1 too with no issues.
      Hoe that helps,
      Tim

    • @MQuinn-zk5zn
      @MQuinn-zk5zn Před 8 lety +1

      Hi Tim,
      Thanks for the reply. Your demo has really made me consider this as a bedroom / practice amp option - wife and mother in law don't want to be woken up with late night practicing! So, may I just clarify, re the master volume: you are able to run the amp's Master Volume at 8ish on the clean channel and then keep the clean volume lowish - around 3/4 to achieve that clean/slightly broken up tone you get? And the sound in the room is coming through your computer monitors / headphones at a suitable volume without breaking anyone's ear drums?
      Thanks
      Matthew

    Hi, do you think this is a good solution for someone who wants a tiny little gear (no huge amp at home), play most of the time through headphones, no band at the moment, can only go up to 400€ (the price of a used amp1)?
    My other alternative would be something like the mooer ge200, lot of great reviews about tone and it's 300€ new. It already has cab/speaker emulator and could use third part IR..
    I'm open to other options!

    in a live band situation ,can you run a speakercabinet and p.a. via blubox or torpedo at the same time ?? or you must choose between connecting to a speackercabinet or the p.a. via blubox or torpedo ?

    What is the bridge pickup? It is obviously a humbucker. The in between sound with the middle p.u. is really stratty!

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 8 lety

      The bridge pickup is a Bareknuckle Crawler. At 15.4KΩ DC impedance it's a hot pickup, and I'm no a high gain player, but it never sounds mushy, and most importantly it coil taps extremely well. I actually use it as a single coil more often than as a humbucker.

      Yes. Several months after recording this video I have to say I have used the Amp1 infrequently (just due to the types of gigs I've been getting), but I use the Torpedo Cab nearly every day in the studio. It's the one piece of digital modelling I allow in my analogue chain.

  • @napalmhardcore
    @napalmhardcore Před 8 lety

    I'm a little confused. So you are running a speaker emulated signal into a speaker simulator? Why not turn off the speaker emulation on the AMP-1 if you're using the Torpedo?

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 8 lety +1

      I don't belive it is possible to turn off the Amp 1's speaker emulation. In any case running one cab sim into another sounds great - like having a dual cab setup. I do it all the time with the digital modeller I have. It's also worth noting that the speaker-emulation coming from the Amp 1 is very basic compared to a digital IR, so I don't think it colours the sound all that much.

    • @napalmhardcore
      @napalmhardcore Před 8 lety +1

      +Tim Maple Thanks for the reply. After posting I decided to take a look at the manual online and I couldn't find anything to suggest it can be turned off. I doubt the cab sim makes a big difference, though it would be nice to have the option to turn it off. Maybe if Thomas makes a version 2.
      Just out of curiosity, what digital modeller do you have?

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 8 lety +1

      +napalmhardcore Line 6 Helix. Still in honeymoon period with it at the moment, and no real world gigging experience planned until next month, but so far it has exceeded all my expectations. Anyway that's for another video...

    • @napalmhardcore
      @napalmhardcore Před 8 lety

      +Tim Maple Very nice. I currently have my eye on the Amplifire. It's obviously not as flexible as the Helix but it's much more within my reach pricewise. So much cool gear, so little money :(

    • @Wendy2068
      @Wendy2068  Před 8 lety +1

      +napalmhardcore I have the Amplifire too. Works best with 3rd party IRs and is great with pedals in front. Its small size makes it a great portable backup to the Helix, which is a heavy and chunky piece of metal. For the price you can't go wrong with the Amplifire.
