Props to alvin for not overpaying. We can find another big tough dman for our bottom pairing i.e. dillion.
He has lots of cap space to cook with.
i dont blame alvin for being careful about not wanting to budge on say a 7-8 year term. Players who play very physical tend to regress alot sooner then normal players. 3rd parings dont make over 3-4.
Games 6 and 7 Zadorov didn't hit much
Neither did some of the others
Maybe they were injured

Love big Z but he over performed in the playoffs with some very lucky goals. Not reasonable to expect him to repeat that performance, but it did raise his stock heading into UFA. Makes a lot of sense for Nucks to pass. Sad to see him go though!

I would have loved to see zadorov stay but if it didn’t work moneywise then it wouldn’t have been good for the team… To everyone who is calling out allvin for a bad decision, remember he was the one who brought z here in the first place
Ya and he didn’t pay much for Z. Got a great experience having him on the squad. Sometimes good things have to come to an end.
I for one am pleased that this group doesn’t overpay players and get stuck long term. Lots of anger here, where’s the anger at Z for asking so far above his actual stats and play - he’s not a young player that’s going to keep growing in stature
Fans are reacting with their hearts , not their brains. This is probably a good thing Cap wise and player performance over time
Zadorov is a top 4 defender
^ he was definitely solid during the playoff run but at the end of the day, 5 mill plus with term was way too much for him. And tanev is the better defender.

Huge tanev fan here. One of the worst mistakes this franchise ever made was letting tanny walk when he would have taken a hometown discount to stay
Why pay someone 6 mill when someone at 3-4 can get the job done love this move shows that they have a plan and are sticking to it in Alvin/JR we trust

Lol I loved Zadorov here and he was a MASSIVE piece (no pun but yes pun..) but he is not worth as much as him and his agent think lol. He should’ve taken a 4.8 X 6 and called it.
The problem with Zadorov is that you can’t play him too high or too much, so he’s basically stuck as a number 4 guy. The scouting report is that if you play him as a number 1 or 2, he’s very prone to mental lapses, and $5-6mil is too much to pay for a number 4 guy.
Ngl tocchet kinda fucked em' by saying how valuable Z was. He barely said anything but the press just recognized every insinuation and it got Z to really start salivating at the big money.
I think anyone with eyes could evaluate Zadorov. I'm sure a coach's comments did nothing compared to replays of his games.
Z is worth more than we know. His potential with the canucks is huge. He would definitely get career high points

My guess is they offered Big Z $4.5- 4.75 x 3-4 years. Can't overpay anymore, have to look at his entire body of work not just a couple playoff rounds.

Ah well, lots of talent out there still.
There are other options and when you have a salary cap, you can't sign everyone. You have to set limits or you end up with a lot of dead cap money. The Canucks already have theirs. There will be other guys available for less money who can fill out the roster. Depth is important. I wouldn't mind seeing DeBrusk play with Pettersson. He wouldn't be that expensive and he plays a hard, gritty game along with being virtually a perennial 20 goal scorer. Then they can add another top 6 or top 9 and a defenseman or 2. They need someone to play with Soucy.

Because they need to pay for a high quality top line winger. If they can get him, I'll take the $'s going to Guentzel instead of Zadorov, every time. A top winger can win games, Zadorov hits. Which asset gets you closer to a cup?

@@NHLSlowmo It wasn't an assumption. They do need a Petersson line winger. Okay, not Guentzel who was priced out, arguably an overpay by Tampa. DeBrusk was a cheaper option but I like the skill set for the price. I think they're not done. And they added size and muscle to replace Z. Forbort is 6'4", 220, Desharnais is 6'7", 226 lbs, the 2 of them cheaper than Z. They also added gritty Keifer Sherwood. All in all I would say that they are bigger, tougher, grittier than last year's team going forward. I liked Big Z but not at what Boston paid for him. They'll love him in Beantown. I'm pretty happy getting DeBrusk. Another top 6 winger would still be on the wish list. They have $3mil, trades could make it happen.
He talks about making the team better however how’s that possible when they loose so much in the defence and forward positions. They probably won’t even make the playoffs next season.

Zadorov was asking for way more money than Myers and underlying numbers aren’t particularly flattering for Zadorov. It’s not like the season wasn’t going well before we got him either.
