This album created some of today’s greatest screaming rapper. Guys like Jasiah, Scarlxrd, Nascar Aloe, Zilla kami(who has been featured in the singer’s music video before), Ghostemane, The Suicide Boys, and Even X himself are the aftermath of this album. You have to continue on your Slipknot journey. Trust me, they never run out of ideas.
Only Slipknot would write a section in a song like Scissors, which is supposed to be spurred on as a singalong. It’s like “We’ve all been in that place in our life where misanthropy and depression intertwine into something grotesque. So why not let it all out together?”
As you said, this album isn’t just angry. It’s not one-dimensional. It’s very raw, very human. It’s crass, it’s unapologetic, a bit melodramatic… but isn’t that all human?

This is my favorite self titled reaction on the entire internet. You are THEE only person discovering this album today who gets it, who knows what they were doing. You are 11yr old me discovering this album as a young metal head, days after it dropped on the world like a planet sized anvil.
There will never be this slipknot again, it’s a good and bad thing, because they gave every ounce of them selves to become the mammoth they are now, but everything after Iowa will only be a void filler that never quite satisfies.
You will always come back to this album, even in 20 years this album will still hit as hard as it did today for you. This was my gateway drug to much heavier and way more brutal metal, but even the heaviest thing today some how doesn’t stand up to the energy and reality of this 9 member band In masks and jumpsuits holding fire in their hands knowing what they were about to do. And believe me they knew.
    It even sounds good 8-bit

I think the reason I like these reactions so much is its exciting to see someone hearing them for the first time. I want to re-capture how I felt as a high school kid and having my mind blown. Then seeing them in a small venue, which will likely never happen again, and experiencing the absolute chaos that was the early Slipknot concerts. Its a pleasure to see someone's first time with the band. I said it in another comment, but be sure you see them live. It seems to be intimidating to some reaction channels, I promise you everyone will be cool there. It looks like a bunch of violent crazy people but 99% of the people there are the kind who would pick you up if you fall. If you're truly worried, stay in the back, just go see them. Its an experience.

Hi I'm Timmy and I really dig your reactions of full albums. I'm here to request a full Dog Fashion Disco album reaction and I wasn't sure which album to start you on but I think I have found the perfect intro album. That album is Sweet Nothings.. I'm picking this album because I feel it really shows the bands versatility. I believe this album shows they can do it all and cant exactly be pegged as any specific genre of music. Online they are described as an experimental avant-garde alternative funk metal band. I do hope you start with Sweet Nothings. I believe you will in fact fall in love with this band. I hope maybe it can come soon. I understand lots of people make many requests but I think it would be an incredible thing for you to do for music by reviewing a band that isn't already extremely huge in the scene. You can actually have an impact and help in growing an incredible band. I think it would show a lot about your character to do something like that. I would find it quite noble and a great way to show your true love for music.

I totally agree. I always hated that they removed frail limb nursery and purity from the digital release. Not that me inside is a bad song, but it definitely changed the vibe from the middle of the album. Like a story missing an important scene. Also, Me Inside very much feels like what it was to me -- a song that wasn't ready/up to par with the rest of the songs; a leftover. That's why it wasn't on the album at release.

I'm hella late but Corey Taylor was and still is in a band called Stone Sour which was banded in 1994. His voice has developed a lot over the years, but he still sounds amazing. The story is is that a couple of the band members (forgot which ones) asked Corey to join Slipknot while he was at a gas station. Corey who was tired of being homeless and working at a sex shop joined because why not? They have three demos they released in 1997 before they dropped this album. The raw emotion and anger Corey puts in the songs are incredible. He's extremely talented. Love Slipknot.

Slipknot normally used 2-3 vocal layers for Corey (lead singer), but on some where it sounds deeper + fuller (like at the second “verse” towards the end of Spit it Out, or ending of Sic, or the deeper screams of Tattered & Torn) that’s Chris and Clown’s vocals in addition. So sometimes 4-5 vocals of cleans, lows, highs, screams, singing all conjoined together. And of course sometimes it’s just Corey like in Me Inside towards the beginning.
Slipknot also does have a DJ, Sid (gas mask). And Craig who adds even more depth and heaviness through sound affects and recordings.
Edit: Been listening to Slipknot for almost a decade. I think you’ll like .5 The Grey Chapter by them- just note the bassist and drummer are different on that album. Also in this album they used a lot of movies to dictate some songs, like Prosthetics is I think The Collector. Eeyore also is about a fan they all hated in the pit, and the lyrics at the end don’t catch Corey yelling at Joey to “Joey fucking stop!” which you can hear.

The later parts of Scissors was often improvised. When they'd play it live, he would just make something up that night, or whatever he was feeling would come out. They often would be lighting each other on fire on stage during this song haha. Eeyore was a hidden track after Scissors initially and then there was the other hidden track of them watching scat porn at the end of that. This album is truly front loaded. Thankfully, they still play the first 5 songs live regularly.

Over time, I've noticed I like the first half of the album way less than the second half, when they fall into madness and experiment more. I now enjoy Tattered and Torn, Liberate, No Life, Only One, and Scissors more than Sic, Eyeless, Wait and Bleed, and Surfacing (although Spit It Out is still oustanding). Idk, Sic just feels so plain now. Maybe I've heard it too many times over the years.

I remember when they played surfacing live, everyone was moshing and had their middle fingers in the air screaming, I saw them preform in October last year and it was amazing. Songs from every album which was amazing, I got to be in the mosh pit up front and everyone was going hard(I’m 15) best experience of my life and wanna go again soon, wait and bleed is the first song I had ever heard and is my favorite of all time , it’s the song that got me on them.

Awesome, enjoyed this reaction to it.
    R.I.P Paul Gray, *ex-bassist, 1995 - 2010*, (1972 - 2010)
    R.I.P Joey Jordison, *ex-drummer, 1995 - 2013*, (1975 - 2021)
Also, this is the first video I've watched by you. I have no idea if you know how to metal scream. Basically all vocalist use Screaming Techniques like: False Cord (which is used by Corey Taylor and etc.), Fry Scream and etc. Corey only used his throat and added distortion to it from his throat which can damage your vocals, He did this from 1997 - 2002 after blowing his voice out too much. Thanks for making this reaction btw, hella fun to watch! :)

I agree about the album being great for Halloween! In 2016, I went to a local haunted house attraction and one section of it was this maze full of blacklights, neon, and 3D effects, including scare actors dressed as psychotic clowns splattered in blacklight paint, and “Tattered & Torn” was playing in the room when I walked through. It fit the atmosphere perfectly
I can understand not liking “Scissors”. It took me a while to like it. I believe the song is about self harm and it’s deeply personal. It’s meant to be the proper finale of the album, while Eeyore is a hidden track bonus. Eeyore is basically a diss track to a guy who would go to their concerts and be super violent to other fans (including hitting women), so that’s why Corey is so angry on the track.
About the trap metal inspiration, you’re spot on. Zillakami has even covered “Eyeless” live a few times.

This album hits hard, but in an interview Corey said that from ‘99 to ‘02 he would scream so raw that he would cough up blood and couldn’t talk for a week and a half after shows and recording sessions, so just so you know all that heavy excessive screaming costed him his voice

1:13:30 it’s cuz scissors and Eeyore were originally one 20 minute long song with Eeyore being at the end as a hidden track. And in between the two songs was a clip of the band reacting to a scat p*rn. Was then later split into two tracks of just the scissors and Eeyore parts

Maybe some to check out sometime : Prong, 'Cleansing' album, and one of favs, Testament, especially e'thing on albums "Low" & "The Gathering" . ✌peace (can't go wrong with anything Slipknot)

Purity's intro interlude Frail Limb Nursery had a potential copyright infringement issue so they pulled them both off the album. Get This wasnt on the original tracklist, it was a bonus track w some editions. Purity got added back with the few seconds from the end of Frail Limb Nursery and Get This is with other bonus tracks on the 10th Anniversary edition.
Still feels weird when it gets to that part and Frail Limb Nursery doesnt play.

Fun and interesting fact, there was a song they originally were going to add on this album after tattered and torn called "purity" but due to copyright issues they never added this song onto the album, the song is based on a urban legend where the lead singer Corey Taylor was into mystery that time. They just released this song on the 10th anniversery slipknot album and you'll be able to find the song there
Great album reaction btw! As a slipknot fan the self titled album is one of my favorites! Along with Iowa, & Vol. 3 subliminal versus

I know this was posted quite some time ago, so I don't expect this to be read, But my personal take on scissors is that it's the musical embodiment of addiction and the pure self hatred that goes into slowly killing yourself with severe substances ( Corey Taylor was horribly addicted to Alcohol ) and your statement of meditation and the repeating of phrases to build it in your head adds onto it ( Biding my time until my time is right ) Plotting your eventual end, till eventually you give in to the thoughts

I think Scissors is about a relation between a drug user and the drug itself, parts where it says lines like “you want it, you need it” is what whatever the drug is communicating in a way and lines like “the candid heart tube that I selected” (choice of drug) show that a little bit and near there end and there’s lines like “I don’t need you any more” and “I want to die” is the effect of using so long

So the reason the last song eeyore is relatively short compared to the previous song scissors is because it was the hidden track on the cd originally but obviously you can’t have a hidden track on Spotify.
