Played a few LTDs in bands and upgraded to a Gibson Les Paul which is waaay better in every aspect. I find people say shit about Gibson without actually ever owning one for any length of time. Granted they are friggin heavy but only pussy's complain about that lol. USA Fender Strats aren't far behind in weight especially after playing for an hour or two, but not many people seem to mention that.
I got the same EC 256 in Cobalt blue. It’s my first electric guitar and I love it. Last year, I was advised to get the usual Tele or strat, as i was a beginner, but i wanted to seek out my options. This guitar is versatile but, not for beginners, which showed its longevity as i progress as a guitarist.
I would take one of these over a tele or start if I was starting out. Those guitars have such specific tones, and this having a cool tap gives you more versatility

Eclipses are really good. I bought an LTD Deluxe recently, and surprisingly I've been playing it more than any of my other guitars, including my main Ibanez Prestige.
The 256 series are really good for the money. I had one of the original vintage black with relic. I liked it a lot. Ended up changing the pickups. Ltd are the very best bang for the buck.
Agreed... Epiphone and or Gibson got a "NOGO" for not having a volute set in place! This LTD with Burstbuckers or SD 59's and it'll rival 3500.00 guitars hands down! No actors or singers driving up this model either! Let's consider this to be ESPs bad ass Squier (LTD)😁
I've had an LTD Eclipse 256 since around 2012. Never had any issues with it. Never felt the need to upgrade anything on it. It sounds great out of the box. I adjusted the intonation and action, but that's what I do with every guitar I own. Maybe consider upgrading the tuning machines if you play in drop tuning. Other than that, the hardware and electronics are great. Mine has a rosewood fretboard and it was made in Vietnam.
Man thats a beautiful finish! I have the EC 256 in cherry sunburst and fucking hell, most beautiful guitar I've ever owned! Found out they make a "vintage natural" finish on this model and I wouldn't mind owning another one if the finish looks beautiful! Lol
I bought a used MH-350 several years ago and it's an absolute winner. You can't go wrong with the mid range LTD guitars, especially if you can find a used one for a good price.
Totally. I have an mh250 from like 15 years ago.. set neck, floyd rose, and emgs (upgrade from previous owner) snagged it for $200. Still use to this day!
Great review, I bought one of these as my first guitar in purple, back in April. I know nothing about guitars or playing, but it's a lovely instrument.
I picked up the Opaque Black version for 299 and spent about 30 minutes setting it up. Intonation was very close. I'm putting on a Babicz TOM bridge and a string butler. I figured on swapping the nut but saw no point. I always let it sit in the box for 24 hours first but learned to open the box just to loosen the strings first if I cannot get it shipped with the strings already loosened. I don't know how many people do that but I've found that if the weather from the shipping point to my home is a fair difference, it helps with the setup.
guess what! i got a bargain on the EXACT same guitar, used and unscathed. it plays like a dream. it's my introduction to xj frets and that's a revelation to me. effortless fretting; chords just flow out. nicely wide neck; great overall feel, weight and balance. i do think the clean sound of the pickups is too dark and listless, but the right amount of gain just makes them shine. i use a fender pugilist distortion on a vox amp to let it sing like a siren: imagine clapton's woman tone.
I own the ESP LTD TE200 in the black&white finish. I played it with the stock pickups for almost a year and it was quite decent. The guitar feels nice. Later I decided to make some upgrade on it, so I installed the Seymour Duncan Nazgul and Sentient pickups into it. Now its a straight killer, and my number 1 instrument ! Perfect
You can tell the Indonesian ones by the twelfth fret, they have the regular inlay, where the Vietnam ones have the “EC-256” inlay. I’ve got a cherryburst Indo, LOVE it! 😁👍
Beautiful. I had one for 3 days before I returned it. The sound became muffled and very low. I compared it with another guitar and it was the LTD. As nice as it was, I had to return it.
Love the EC guitars,I've owned a few of them and a snow white Eclipse II. I've had lower end Gibson guitars and epiphone LPs. The neck on these ESPs with the 24 3/4 scale are just to die for to me. That 256 looks like a steal for the money they go for.
I just picked one up in orange flame on eBay for $209 plus shipping and tax. It appears to be new and the plastic was still on the pickups. It came with a gig bag too. I almost feel guilty. NOT! I loved your playing and presentation.

Dark Brown Sunbirst? Idk but either Tony got the Cream of the Crop of the Brown Burst or ESP changed that color as the online's look darker? I'm infactuated with this color as its a Classic Look, but i want the same finish as Tony's.
Bought a couple a few months ago (cobalt blue/lemon drop) and they're great & very lightweight, the pickups are made by g&b which are also used in the PRS se range which sound great, the x2 jumbo frets are matter of taste & i've noticed you can buy them used at low prices & they're a mirror image of a jackson monarkh.
Hey Taylor I just bought an EC-256 the other night! Same color as yours except instead of the black going around the edge of the body it's the orange sunburst color all the way through. I ordered some Hipshot locking tuners with the UMP plates and some Dunlop Straplocks. The toggle switch and the jack are a little loose but I can either fix them or replace them no big deal. The action's a little high for my taste but now that it's had a couple of days for the neck to adjust to room temp and humidity I'll start tweaking that truss rod while I'm waiting on my tuners and straplocks to get here. Plays and sounds great. I thought I was going to have to replace the pickups but hell they sound pretty damn good. The only thing that slightly bothers me is that push/pull pot is kind of hard to pull up with those style of knobs (which I want to keep because they look good on the guitar). I think maybe later on down the road I'll just replace all three pots and make each volume knob a push/push pot (so I don't have to pull up on them) to control the pickups separately. That'll have to wait though because I already have a project guitar I need to finish up before I tear into anything else (I gotta quit procrastinating and get it done). Glad you put up this video. I've been watching for one ever since at the right price and I finally got it.........
Got a beautiful used 256 and sounds and plays better than $3,000.00 I've owned, prs , gibson, Vintage, fender, even the coil tap sounds like a strat but with no loss of volume like other high end brands with coul tap'! Best value I've ever owned😮
Very nice, considering getting one these for my son who is (unfortunately) a lefty like myself. He's been looking at the Epiphone LP's but I think the EC range would suit him better as they feel a bit slimmer. I've just bought a pre-owned EC401-OW which is effing beautiful. In fact, I much prefer it to an EC1000 that I owned a couple of years ago.
I got the same one in black. It is an awesome guitar for the money. I'm thinking about moding int a little bit, throw in a het set and turning it into an Iron Cross. But as time goes by I am more and more reluctant to do anything to it...
I got a white 256 from a pawn shop in great condition and did exactly that turned it into an iron cross. It turned out great and looks cool hanging beside my Black Ltd James hetfield Snakebyte. Cheers

Not gonna lie, I grew up a Gibson guy and bought a Les Paul around 2008. I absolutely love that guitar, but that being said I'll be the first person to tell you Gibson even from the time I got one has let their standards really go. I got a Viper-256 and I absolutely love it. I own a Jackson and a Dean and the LTD plays absolutely fantastic. The neck feels great. I don't know how they cram so much value into that price point. My buddy has a PRS and I won't say my LTD is "better" but I will say I prefer to play my LTD

I traded a gibson sg voodoo for an ltd ec1000 when I was like 17. Probably a stupid move lol but that ec1000 was so sick and has ultimately become my favorite brand since then
If you enjoyed it more, than it was a good move 🤷♂️ I sold an sg when I was a teenager and still kind of regret it. In fairness though, I'm 99% sure it was fake.
@@TaylorDanley I regret it for sure. Definitely wasn't fake and it was with me through 2 bands, a tour and endless live shows and recordings. But I did love the eclipse, it played absolutely incredibly. But, it was sunburst with zebra pick ups, wasn't as metal as the voodoo haha
ESP rules... they are a cut above...from the 256 ☝️ you cannot go wrong, spend what you want but the 256, 401 and EC 1000 are incredible...the E2c just insane and the custom shops go nuts. Enjoy a well made guitar that's consistent.
I just got one of these today used from someone that didnt play it. Paid under 300 for it. In my rig it sounds amazing, like i dont know if im going to swap the pickups or anything. It is amazing and i have some really nice name brand guitars and this one feels and plays really great
I am playing guitar for like 10 years (on and off xD = 5 years) and I am 16 years old which means I can't afford expensive guitars and I bought this 2 years ago and I absolutely love this guitar! I changed the pickups, the tuner etc. and I don't see the point pf upgrading at the moment.

I got a LTD 256 in a buy out deal on a amp and other stuff that was what I was really after. It was a faded worn fake finish that really did look fake. But it is a great guitar for almost free. I cleaned it up a while back and put a set of the super light Billy Gibbons strings on it just to try them on something. Not so sure about the Reverend Billy strings but it is a good guitar.
Good video. I was in atlanta a couple yesrs ago and played one made in Vietnam. I'm a long time Gibson guy. Or was. Have owmed several Gibsons from LPs, LP studio light, SGs, Flying Vs, and I like Gibsons, and think many people give them crap for no reason, but I have to say the LTD256 I played was very nice. I would have replaced the nut with a compensating nut, maybe put my fav pickup in the bridge which is a dimarzio super 3. Loved your engle live patch. Very cool. Great review.
Thanks! I agree, the nut is the weak point on this guitar fir sure. The pickups are cool with me because I have a lot of guitars with really hi gain output pups, so having something dialed back a little is a nice change

@TaylorDanley I have a doubt why ec256 white is having different pickups and the guitar you are playing is having different pickups. Even they are same models and I checked official website also they mentioned that in both the ec256 they used LH 150 pickups. But it looks different in both modes. Metal take on a Les Paul. Nice guitar. You know you can buy a gold pickup cover for the Viper aftermarket. In fact, I'll bet if you contact ESP, they would sell you the oem cover.

I always say spend the money on the amp. That’s where most of your tone is coming from, A good amp will make cheap guitars sound decent. Where as a great guitar played through a crappy amp will be well… crappy. He playing through a Mesa cab sooo virtually anything will sound good through that thing 😂

I have a viper 400 m its a decent guitar though it has developed fret sprout. I have a EC 200 on the way I had an ec1000 but as beautiful as it looked i sold it in favor of a cheeper model

That Eclipse is gorgeous! I had a limited edition EC 100 Archtop a couple of years ago, it was an Amazon exclusive and it had a black finish with chrome hardware and pickup covers. Played amazingly, but I ended up trading it to upgrade to my current schecter omen Extreme. The Wolf WLP 750 I got is quite possibly the nicest guitar I've owned. The shop I ordered it from gave it a full setup before shipping and it came out of the box in tune. I was floored by just what a value it was. Can't wait to see more videos with the Eclipse!
I love my EC-1000 VB.........but.......I just recently purchased a Charvel Desolation SK-1 Skatecaster. HOLY FUCK! Charvel's Desolation series guitars (which they no longer make) have got to be some of the most underrated fly under the radar guitars out there. I've had it for maybe 3 weeks now and I haven't played any of my other guitars since. If you ever get a chance to play one don't pass it up...........

I spoke to the guy I deal with there and he said they call then used but all they are is customer returns. Not gonna lie, I grew up a Gibson guy and bought a Les Paul around 2008. I absolutely love that guitar, but that being said I'll be the first person to tell you Gibson even from the time I got one has let their standards really go. I got a Viper-256 and I absolutely love it. I own a Jackson and a Dean and the LTD plays absolutely fantastic. The neck feels great. I don't know how they cram so much value into that price point. My buddy has a PRS and I won't say my LTD is "better" but I will say I prefer to play my LTD

I traded a gibson sg voodoo for an ltd ec1000 when I was like 17. Probably a stupid move lol but that ec1000 was so sick and has ultimately become my favorite brand since then
If you enjoyed it more, than it was a good move 🤷♂️ I sold an sg when I was a teenager and still kind of regret it. In fairness though, I'm 99% sure it was fake.
@@TaylorDanley I regret it for sure. Definitely wasn't fake and it was with me through 2 bands, a tour and endless live shows and recordings. But I did love the eclipse, it played absolutely incredibly. But, it was sunburst with zebra pick ups, wasn't as metal as the voodoo haha
ESP rules... they are a cut above...from the 256 ☝️ you cannot go wrong, spend what you want but the 256, 401 and EC 1000 are incredible...the E2c just insane and the custom shops go nuts. Enjoy a well made guitar that's consistent.
I just got one of these today used from someone that didnt play it. Paid under 300 for it. In my rig it sounds amazing, like i dont know if im going to swap the pickups or anything. It is amazing and i have some really nice name brand guitars and this one feels and plays really great

I am playing guitar for like 10 years (on and off xD = 5 years) and I am 16 years old which means I can't afford expensive guitars and I bought this 2 years ago and I absolutely love this guitar! I changed the pickups, the tuner etc. and I don't see the point pf upgrading at the moment.

I got the ec1000 more than 10 years ago and it's still one of the best guitars I own.
I got a LTD 256 in a buy out deal on a amp and other stuff that was what I was really after. It was a faded worn fake finish that really did look fake. But it is a great guitar for almost free. I cleaned it up a while back and put a set of the super light Billy Gibbons strings on it just to try them on something. Not so sure about the Reverend Billy strings but it is a good guitar.
I own the ec 256 matte black and put a SD Invader in it, so smooth to play and brutal sounding 🤘🏻

Good video. I was in atlanta a couple yesrs ago and played one made in Vietnam. I'm a long time Gibson guy. Or was. Have owmed several Gibsons from LPs, LP studio light, SGs, Flying Vs, and I like Gibsons, and think many people give them crap for no reason, but I have to say the LTD256 I played was very nice. I would have replaced the nut with a compensating nut, maybe put my fav pickup in the bridge which is a dimarzio super 3.

Thanks! I agree, the nut is the weak point on this guitar fir sure. The pickups are cool with me because I have a lot of guitars with really hi gain output pups, so having something dialed back a little is a nice change
@@TaylorDanley Mine had a faulty tuner. I had no way to send it back since I live in central america. I bought a set of Hipshot locking tuners and that thing plays great. Stays in tune and I just love it. I'm planning to upgrade pups in the near future but I haven't made my mind just yet.

I was gonna buy a gibson then played this back to back with a tribute LP and its was better unplugged for a 3rd the price, just needs a pickup upgrade.
@TaylorDanley I have a doubt why ec256 white is having different pickups and the guitar you are playing is having different pickups.
Even they are same models and I checked official website also they mentioned that in both the ec256 they used LH 150 pickups.
But it looks different in both modes.

You know you can buy a gold pickup cover for the Viper aftermarket. In fact, I'll bet if you contact ESP, they would sell you the oem cover.

Great thing about fancy expensive amp gear and high gain is the ability to make up for cheap guitars.
I always say spend the money on the amp. That’s where most of your tone is coming from, A good amp will make cheap guitars sound decent. Where as a great guitar played through a crappy amp will be well… crappy. He playing through a Mesa cab sooo virtually anything will sound good through that thing 😂

I have a viper 400 m its a decent guitar though it has developed fret sprout. I have a EC 200 on the way I had an ec1000 but as beautiful as it looked i sold it in favor of a cheeper model

That Eclipse is gorgeous! I had a limited edition EC 100 Archtop a couple of years ago, it was an Amazon exclusive and it had a black finish with chrome hardware and pickup covers. Played amazingly, but I ended up trading it to upgrade to my current schecter omen Extreme. The Wolf WLP 750 I got is quite possibly the nicest guitar I've owned. The shop I ordered it from gave it a full setup before shipping and it came out of the box in tune. I was floored by just what a value it was. Can't wait to see more videos with the Eclipse!

I love my EC-1000 VB.........but.......I just recently purchased a Charvel Desolation SK-1 Skatecaster. HOLY FUCK! Charvel's Desolation series guitars (which they no longer make) have got to be some of the most underrated fly under the radar guitars out there. I've had it for maybe 3 weeks now and I haven't played any of my other guitars since. If you ever get a chance to play one don't pass it up...........
