PROJECT PAN JOURNEY : What I've Learned After 4 Years

  • Hey Y'all!
I had been planning this video for awhile, creating a well thought out outline of points I wanted to cover. But as I mention in the video quite a lot is going on, however I still wanted to film so I decided to just wing it and talk as little or as much on anything that came to mind. Not exactly the most structured video ever but I think I got the main points across. As my time project panning is coming to an end I just wanted to touch on some of the biggest lessons that I learned in the process. Hope it's of some use to someone else out there. Also, I filmed this yesterday as the fires were at their worst. As of this morning it appears that the situation is under control. Most people have been able to return to their homes, those who have homes left to return to that is. Right now the total is 7 homes which have been completely destroyed. On a positive note it looks like the hurricane has weakened to a point where it's no longer a major life threatening event. Just tropical storm like conditions. Anyway, I pray that the Aina will heal and the people of Maui can come together as an Ohana to support those who have lost so much. Thank y'all for watching.

I get so angry when Sephora marketing goes for "Get a back up, or two. You know you need it." That just turns me off and whatever they're trying to sell me goes on a blacklist. I've noticed since being more aware, I can browse the new arrivals on Sephora and appreciate when something is pretty but also acknowledge that I don't need it, and move on without having any emotions about it. I used to be emotionally attached to makeup and it truly made me upset to think I couldn't have something I wanted. It feels so much healthier now to be able to separate enjoying using making from being happy because of makeup. Happiness shouldn't come from something with a price tag, well except my cat's adoption fee 😺

YES THANK YOU!!!! I effing hate those emails! Or you look at one thing and you immediately get an email saying "Ummm did you forget something?? You know you need it!!" Or right after I make a purchase I get one saying "Do you need to restock?" I like just purchased 2 weeks ago, how the eff do you think I've used it up already?!! You can tell this is striking a nerve with me. lol.

Cats are the meaning of life. I have handled over 30 kitties, I rehome them. Right now I have a scruffy old guy that I rescued from a parking lot. He is super chill. PEANUT is orange. I spent hundreds at sephora when I really needed to vet him properly. I have a therapist and she told me to put his photo in front of my cards in my wallet. I missed out on years of all the trends in makeup like subscription boxes, but I am satisfied now. I am fully stocked up for 2019 and my mom will pay for the vet in 3 weeks. I am using up what I have and only collecting samples from windowshopping. My low buy is to spend 400 at Sephora for 2019 to be rouge, mostly on oral hygiene, cleansers, perfume, sales, samples with purchase, play boxes, and gifts. I want the rouge welcome gift and free flash. In 2020 I will not maintain rouge into 2021. It all started with wanting to coordinate scents and colors with my outfits. Unrealistic. I am a wash and go gal. Not into glam, glitter in my eyes, and I hate mascara. They give it away, but I hate the way it feels. I have 3 UD eyeshadows because a girl handed me her used pallate backstage. I want them, the shiny... but I have 1 dresser for beauty and it is full. My favorite is body spray perfumes, hair scents, conditioners, and fruit scented items. I even forfeited a BBW free item coupon. I didn't want another $11 of clutter. My poor cat, he should be the priority. I have had him 1 month and he gained weight. He is my passion. Makeup... he could care less. Self care, shower, floss, wash, wipe, and done. Natural beauty is the best. Purified water is a good makeup remover. Being broke lowers my energy. I am more creative when I have a nice fat cushion in my banks. I don't wanna give it away. I applied at my favorite stores and got interviews. As a side hustle... they can pay me, not the other way around.

Maui is my favourite place on Earth. I'm from the UK so it's a long trek but we make it out there every other year or so. When you move I would love it if you continued your channel with blogs and Maui based content. I'm so excited for you. Thankfully as I sit typing this Lane has passed and the fires are out. I hope Logan and his loved ones were safe. I'll be out there next march and I cannot wait! Aloha 🌺🍍

I really relate to what you said. I'm moving to another country for a year and I've had to realize that buying the newest thing just takes up space I don't have and money that could be used for are experiences and necessities like groceries, lodging, etc. I still enjoy the smaller side of the beauty community but sometimes it feels as though I can't partake without having the funds to be "in" on the new new. It's interesting to think about.

I can relate to you so much. I don't wear makeup everyday and I have the goal of becoming a homeowner, no amount of makeup can take the place of my very own love nest. Project panning is therefore easy for me, I have gone longer than a year already.

Lately I have just been over it. My husband and I are trying to pay off our debts and save for a house for us and our boys :) Makes me really not want to spend money on makeup anymore. Unless it’s something I really really want and it’s on sale or something, I am not getting it. I have much more important things going on and makeup is really not important at all. Fun but not important. I live in Florida 10 min from the beach. I really have been enjoying more natural, barely any makeup looks. Helps save money too :)

I really enjoyed this video. I thought your reflections were honest and it shows people who are perhaps not understanding why even though they are panning their collection is not getting smaller - you also need to reduce your intake! I think watching less hauls and 'will I buy it' type videos will reduce your spending as you are not being subjected to as much temptation

I love the eye look you have on in this video! It's like a soft glam kinda vibe and I'm really into it.
I also wanted to say, the only way that I've been able to curb my makeup spending is by changing my view on makeup. I am trying to transition into a zero waste lifestyle, which primarily means eliminating the use of plastic, among other things. Most makeup is packaged in plastic, so once you use it up, you throw away the packaging, which ends up in landfill. I want to stop contributing to that, so that SEVERELY limits what I can purchase now. However, I think that's a good thing. It has helped me to look at supporting more indie brands that are making eco-friendly products that won't end up in landfill. While most of the time, the ingredients being used are minimal and better for my skin anyways. The whole process has forced me to look at and appreciate what I have instead of always pining after the next new thing.
Thanks for sharing this video. I will continue praying that Hawaii recovers swiftly from the devastation.

Literally just got back from West Maui. Luckily the storm was not close to as bad as they thought it would be in Maui. The big Island on the other hand is in very bad condition. Also, naturally the fires are a big issue in those areas that it hit, but most of the other areas are already cleaned up. I really hope Logan’s family, neighbors, and house are okay! Your move seems like it’ll be a go. Even if his family is directly effected, I have faith that you can make this move happen. From what you’ve been saying in other videos, it seems like you moving there is meant to be. So excited for you!

Aloha Jacquelyn. Probably by now you are in Maui. Congratulations on the move. This is an old video that I got caught up watching. I admire project panners. I do hope you continue to pan and have that mindset. Maui is a wonderful island. I was just there this past summer in July. I stayed in Lahaina. It is expensive there and I realize that. Those who live there are blessed. The Hawaiian people are a wonderful people and so friendly. I want to try to catch up on some of your other videos.

Yup earlier this year I was away for college when the three big fires broke out in California. My family were just outside of the evacuation zone and it was insane that after only seeing California fires on the news for so long, it will finally directly affect me. My mom asked me if there was anything I wanted her to take in case they had to evacuate the house. All the schools I went to, high school, middle school, and elementary were made into evacuation/emergency centers. I don't think I had ever been so stressed for my life.

  • @marie-estellebruman3462

I am glad your project pan life comes to an end because it means you are in the right place for you! I want to thank you for your inspirational content! I became a smarter shopper and I am pretty happy with my low buy this year. I have only bought mini eyeshadows palettes that are gems to me, one highlighter during a trip and replacements. I even started my first project pan today (the 12 buy Christmas on reddit). My goal is mostly to have good use out of my collection and to keep it fun because I don't want to obsess about panning instead of buying makeup. Next step is to restart sport!

You are so right about project panning not working when you still are buying makeup excessively. I have been so surprised to hear some people here on CZcams (not naming names) actually talk about justifying purchases to themselves because they were *buying stuff to pan.* Like they will run out of things to pan!

    @jessielindsey11 Před 6 lety

Prayers for everyone in Hawaii 😔. I loved everyone you had to say. Sometimes I watch CZcams people I love and skip past parts where they’re talking about products. I’ve come to understand what I love to hear about (blush, lip products) and ignore those videos that are talking about other things (foundation, eye shadow). It eliminates a lot of what I can watch. All this means I love your videos that talk about these more conceptual things, and I look forward to whatever new content you choose to create.

I just found your channel and seriously loved and needed this video and all these comments. I have been spending exorbitant amounts of money on makeup and that is literally my only problem with money, I am so frugal otherwise, I would be able to save sooooo much more if I just freaking stopped but its so difficult when there's always a sale or a coupon. I had $200 worth of makeup I absolutely didn't need in my Sephora cart just because of the surprise beauty insider sale where I was gonna get 10% off! why the hell did I almost feel it was necessary to buy a bunch of new unneeded stuff just to save $20! I feel sick to my stomach. I didn't realize I had such a problem but I feel upset that I'm not allowing myself to buy these things, how pathetic. I really miss the days where I only had one bronzer and I used it until it was literally all pan because it was the only one I had and I genuinely just loved makeup now I feel like I need it. please don't stop uploading videos now that you're moving, id love to see your journey when you basically declutter your entire collection and live in a vacation destination!

Such wise words! Loved the part about having a greater goal for your money; I feel as if my spending has spiraled out of control precisely because I tell myself that buying small things 'here and there' won't hurt. But those tiny purchases add up: 5 $8-lip products and you're at $40 😲 I hope your move goes smoothly, I have to pack my life into suitcases come next month and I have no idea how I'm going to get everything into two/three bags. Hope for the best for your friends and loved ones in Hawaii, thank you for such an enlightening video! ❤️

My prayers are with you and all those going through the difficult circumstances in Hawaii. I wanted to also say thank you for this video as it really resonated with me. I am not on social media because I understand the power of marketing and the greed behind it. Although consumers will always have a need this has been exploited and especially so through social media. I strongly believe the principal found in Matthew 6:25-34 where it talks about how we will be taken care of when we put God first in our lives and we will always have what we need. There is a fine line that has been crossed with regards to basic human needs and consumerism. I strive to have goals in my life, like you mentioned, that will be of benefit to my life and not hinder me financially, emotionally, and above all else spiritually. Anyway that is my rant 😂 but seriously this video was inspiring. You are sending a good message! ✌🏽💕

There were times in my life when I had to buy every color there is in lipstick and eyeshadows because seeing my collection makes me so happy. My collection is pretty modest compared to what I see on CZcams, just a small drawer, but still I only use a handful of them. Now I only buy lipstick because I use them a lot for touch ups, and only in colors that I know works for me. I still keep my old collection, because as I said, looking at them makes me happy, but I do not buy anything new in term of eyeshadow or anything else but lipstick, have not been buying for the past, I think five years or so, and I still have not finished using all my eyeshadows!

My inlaws are in their 80's and the thoughts of them losing their home that they literally built themselves with their own hands breaks my heart. As for my own makeup addiction, yeah, I am hopeless right now lol I am like you, I need to stay off social media because that is what kills me.

What helped me realize how much unnecessary shit I had was when I moved into my college dorm. I had to fit my whole life into one little room and when I went home I realized how much I didn't use or needed. Once midterms and finals rolled around, the makeup I did have with me was barely touched for about 2 weeks at a time.
Now after taking so many psychology and sociology classes, all I see are the advertisement tactics and all the negative messages embedded within them ( i.e subtle signs of sexism, racism, etc) and it immediately turns me off.

Ive been over this whole makeup addictive culture for most of the year and have been low buying/project panning for this whole year. Now in hind site i can see how predatory the industry is and can see past the bs. Seeing new releases has little effect on me!
