Loved this …. Bought the car 6 weeks to with the updated dash. Never had a car without a gear stick before! I had an old M240I convertible and love the B58 engine. The new one is not perfect but omg easy to use as a point and shoot. The suspension is so much more sorted now. The pick up in sport when you extend it to over 90 is eye opening and like a C63 AMG in a smaller and cheaper package. I have been really impressed and the biggest tell tail sign is I look back at it as I walk away …. Yes, sad I know, but mine is black …. Which I think looks awesome on this car.

There are lots out there (myself included) who want a car that can be driven in a spirited way but that will handle being a GT too. For me an M2 would be a. Too expensive and; b. A bit too extreme - and I’m not thrilled at the thought of losing the back end on a corner, like some are.
You’ll gather from this that I’m about to order one! 😉

@@TimRodieDrivesStuff Hmm I’ve considered it but I really want to see it on a car first. I’m a bit concerned it might be hard to take care of, too. So far I’ve only seen a Portimao Blue in the metal and I know it’s a typical BMW colour but it does suit the car. Most likely combo will be Brooklyn Grey/ Cognac.
I’ll let you know when I’ve pushed the button!

Can anyone comment on what burbles sound like on the new m240? I’m not a loud pops and bangs kind of guy but love a good burble on the downshifts. I can hear the thump on the upshift, however not much on the downs. Thoughts?

Great review! How good the M240 is going to handle is greatly affected by the addition of the pro pack, which gives you wider front tyres and Michelin PS4S, instead of Pirelli P-Zero.

Good nonsense. This car is appealing to me, except I don't like aspects of the exterior design language (as an architect type might say). Boxy is good, but it has triangular shapes on the front bumper/splitter thingy. I bet it's a weapon though!

Coming out of a 981 Cayman S to this. I live in a part of the US with long winters and high precipitation. This will be the ideal replacement. Also considered the new RS3 however it's 10K more with only slightly better performance. Ordering one with the pro pack in Brooklyn grey next week. Might add some carbon fiber bits at time of order. Front splitter and rear spoiler to break up that rear end. I will admit that seeing it in the metal makes all the difference. Vids and pics don't do it justice.

Picked up my 240i last week. On the whole yes, not as tail happy as my old 240i, but I'm getting older so that's probably a good thing. Don't like the lane change system at all! First time diving home the steering wheel was all but pulled out of my hands, making it feel like the back end was breaking away. Thought it was a skid and correcting it in the normal way made it worse, nearly binned a car with less than fifty miles on the clock. A gentle drive back to the dealers and the sales guy showed me how to switch it off. Trouble is it returns to a default setting every time it's switched off. So it's back into the settings at the start of each journey. BMW trying to be too clever? Sat-Nav has improved slightly, but still not great, telling you to take the next turn when it's two turns away; and roundabouts are a nightmare. The stick on screen Tom Tom in my wife's Picanto is far superior. Not sure of the speedo; seems to be over reading. Indicating seventy and most vehicles are passing by. Have to get it checked. Head-up display is good. Getting lots of admiring comments, and many guys doing the side wards glace as they walk by, haven't had that since my Scirocco R twelve years ago. Not let it 'rip' yet, but the power is easily felt under the right foot.

Had the same scary experience while driving a M3. I almost crashed it because it pulled back in the lane of the vehicle that I tried to pass. Also the correction was invasive and aggressive, so I had to fight it and during this fight (at high speeds!!!) there is no sense of direction and feel in the steer, in the contrary, it only wanted to steer me at high speed into the trunk of the car in front of me! This is an incredible dangerous feature.

Bang on about the old cars, yeah my M140i is a bit lairy, but it's so much more fun then this thing. The lack of a particulate filter also makes it sound much more rowdy too. I think I'll just pay to send mine off to Birds for their handling pack then even considering the new 2 series. The lack of the hatchback too means I'm not really interested either, definitely not interested in a FWD based hatchback with a BMW badge.
