    Should have been preserved as historical site.

      It would've been a Neo Nazi shrine.

      Actually it was badly damaged by a bombing raid and then blown up later by the Bavarian government as it was deemed to be a Nazi shrine.

    Was there last year but in height of autumn so the whole area was covered in leaves. Interesting to see the little nukes and crannies all the same! Thanks.

      So you went to see the ruins of the Berghof. Can you please tell me if anybody can go there to see? Were there many people there with you? Do you know what the locals think of visitors to this site?

    • @ChristofferCatholic
      @ChristofferCatholic Před 7 lety +1

      I was also there summer 2016. The place is open and free for everyone to visit (you may need to pay for parking though). The locals are used to have visitors there. :) You can also see the underground bunkers beneath the place, but you need to pay for entering that.

    • @antonioacevedo5200

      When you went, were there many other people there to see the Bergof.

    • @ChristofferCatholic
      @ChristofferCatholic Před 7 lety +1

      There were many tourists around in Obersalzberg, yes. But actually, there were no one in the specific area where Berghof was. Almost everyone was there to visit another of Hitlers buildings, called Kehlsteinhaus, which lays higher up in the mountain.

    • @Rimrock300
      @Rimrock300 Před 6 lety +1

      There is a main reason why it was demolished; to attracht as little attention as possible in the aftermath of the war. As in not wanting to give nazies/neo-nazies a shrine. Sure many tourists, people interested in history and so on have looked around there through the years, not any problem

    Has anyone rebuilt a recreation of this home using the original plans?

  • @292Nigel
    @292Nigel Před 6 lety +18

    Destruction of that property was a gross act of environmental and cultural sacrilege. The entire property should be reproduced and rebuilt to its former glory. It would make a very lucrative tourist attraction, if nothing else!.

      Rimrock300 Well, Guess what. It backfired! People are now more curious than ever as to why all this had to be annihilated. The Ottoman Empire was 1,000 times more evil and lasted longer than the Nazis, yet their history continues...Oh, of course the Ottomans only killed millions of Armenians, Greeks and assorted CHRISTIANS, but not as many JEWS!...now I understand!

    The West Germans (as they were at the time) were told to blow it up by the Americans which they did in in 1952 (I think). That could not get rid of everything though. So they tried to hide the site with fast-growing trees. Has it worked? The back retaining wall in the mountain is still there and the SS garages deeper in the forest
