I believe The Weeknd described Kiss Land as the same character from the trilogy mixtapes but in a new environment on a world tour. The trilogy mixtapes feel very intimate and claustrophobic while Kiss Land feels cinematic and maximalist.

Thanks for reacting to this. It’s made me realise that this album is a lot better than I thought it was when it first came out. I think a lot of Weeknd fans were a bit disappointed it didn’t sound like his mixtapes, and while I don’t think it’s as good as House of Balloons or Echoes of Silence, it has a very distinctive vibe and narrative throughout it.

In the edit, when I have to listen to the album a lot over the course of a few hours, I get to know the music a bit more. Some albums I revisit often. Nas, MF DOOM & J Dilla spring to mind. I also pick songs on Saturday mornings to play in the kitchen and cheer myself up. Always a bit of Tame Impala and MGMT. I'm probably going to do a 'revisit' series on Patreon where I'll put the albums on again but won't need to 'talk' quite so much. It's all about time unfortunately. There's just not enough of it!
