    My vehicle had the valve jammed open and would not start. I have now removed the valve and you can actually see black lumps jamming the valve open. Apart from that, it is in good condition so I will clean and re-fit. Few points that would make it easier if anyone is going to attempt this. 1. Spray the engine cover nuts and those holding the bracket on the right hand end with WD40 some time before you start to make them easier to remove. 2. Remove air filter cover and air filter to give better access on right hand side. 3. Use old shoe laces to pull pipes and wiring out of the way at various points in the process. 4. The bottom fixing on the right hand bracket had to be undone from underneath, too difficult to do from the top. 5. The video does not show the hose clamp on the lower side being removed. On my vehicle it is a crimp type. It was very difficult to undo, even when the valve is turned upside down. It had to be prised apart and will need to be replaced. The whole process of removing the valve has taken a long time due to the very restricted access. Just getting the engine cover out was difficult even after all the fixings were removed. Note there are two poppers on the engine cover as well as the two nuts. The lower halves of these are likely to be loose once you pull the cover off. Make sure you locate them and keep them safe for re-assembly. Will post a further update when I have it back together. Many thanks for posting the video, was very useful.

    Really useful mate. Thanks for showing the egr valve once you'd taken it out. I wouldn't have known which way the valve was meant to move. Hopefully I can get mine unstuck with some wd40 and a bit of persuasion. Maybe save myself £50 👍

    That's what going on mine. Wouldn't start this morning, been smoking at idle and when you blast it it's ok, no smoke. I tried a long run in 3rd, but still comes back to smoke after a while.

    Hi, such a helpful video, thank you. When you disconnect the various pipes do any of them have liquid in them that you need to plug? Like when you remove the coolant, or are they all empty? Thanks

    Did you use a genuine OEM replacement? My van had the EGR changed last year before I bought it but its hesitating and missing under acceleration. Runs fine and pulls like a train with it disconnected. I'm inclined to think its a nasty chinese pattern part problem...

    Would the p0490 code come up if the egr is blanked

    • @ORileysAutos
      @ORileysAutos  Před 3 lety +1

      This code is specifically for the electronic side. The voltage controls the valve that opens and when it can't open from clogging or damage it triggers this code. Blanked EGR usually triggers P0401 code.

    Would a blocked or jammed egr valve stop the van from running ? My van starts but no response after that and cuts out . Can't find a problem when it's plugged in to the computer

    • @ORileysAutos
      @ORileysAutos  Před 2 lety

      Yes a stuck open EGR valve can cause the vehicle not to start. Partially stuck open EGR valve can cause rough engine idle and stalling due to extra air flow and improper mixture
