DON'T BUY a Truck Vault

  • After several attempts at contacting Truck Vault, they responded by telling me that they were sending me another one unit. Which they did. However, the quality control was worse on the second unit then it was on the first. Truck Vault has horrible build quality for the cost of these units. DO NOT BUY A TRUCK VAULT! Way too many issues, problems and build quality errors.
I'm not sure if it's their quality control person/s or just bad workmanship by employees, either way, horrible product for the cost. They need to do much better.
Also during my communication with Truck Vault, I was told, "the owner will be back on Monday". Two additional emails to Truck Vault asking what the owner had to say or was going to do about the issues. I received ZERO response from the owner of the Truck Vault company. So much for customer service. Very poor. Don't buy a Truck Vault.

We are, of course, disappointed to see a build beneath our standards and sincerely apologize for the problems you’ve faced. Our records indicate that both TruckVaults were damaged heavily by XPO Logistics during shipping, but we also take responsibility for any issues that we caused. Since this video was posted, we have cut ties with XPO and are now with Old Dominion and have noticed a drastic improvement in shipping quality.

I have never owned a Decked system but have owned at least 5 TruckVaults and currently have 2. I can’t argue that the TruckVault in the video was out of square, and as some have mentioned that could be from shipping damage, but I can tell you every TruckVault I have owned has been a high quality product and I have had zero issues with any of them. People have mentioned the Decked system, and I think that is a valid system for some, but it is very dependent on what you are storing in them. I consider Decked as a storage solution and TruckVault as a security solution. TruckVaults come at a steep price, my all weather version in my pickup is +/- $4,500, which at first glance seems like lot of money for a product. What makes the investment easier to justify is what it is protecting. I frequently have $20,000 worth of firearms and optics in it when hunting or going shooting, and I never give it a second thought leaving those items in it while in a hotel/restaurant/store/trail head. I personally would never be comfortable doing that with a Decked. I never have to worry about dust or rain/snow getting into the TruckVault either, like I feel I would with other products.
I can appreciate your frustration with the products you received, but in my experience that is not representative of the quality of their products.
I have zero affiliation with TruckVault and have bought every one that I have owned, and will never own a vehicle without one it.

After watching your video, I'm left wondering, concerning the frame, and not the drawer face, if the impact during shipping may have caused the problem with the sides being out of square. I was thinking the basecamp with be a great option for the RSI Smartcap on my Ram and the Ikamper up top. For those days that you can’t deploy the RTT the basecamp looks like the best option. The shipping companies does piss poor job at handling large items needing forklifts. It's always been the case. Most of the time, the seller require you to send the product to an authorized dealer where you don't see the damaged crates, and if there is no visible damage, the dealer just shrug it off and conceal it when they install it for you.

I am a Quality Control Manager at a large aerospace company. As you would expect I’m a stickler when it comes to builds. Based solely on your video, it appears that there are several factors that effect the form, fit and function of your system. Some questions I have are about design, such as interface issues with the bed. Any problems with the interface such as the bed itself is out of tolerance, it could cause what is called stacking errors. Any type of binding spots, or spots that have more stress than others could result in misalignment. I especially wonder why 2 boxes don’t fit and are of some gap, and bind issues with both. My fist thought is usually, did you check the system before it was installed, and then after installation?
I’ve done some research on truck bed systems, and I came to the conclusion that I should build my own, for they all seem to have a negative in regards to my needs.

    • @outdoordetective
      @outdoordetective  Před rokem

As far as the interface issues with the truck bed, the primary box that contains the drawers, is just that a rectangular box, what makes the box fit the truck bed are the "wings" cut and carpeted plywood that are mounted between the box and the bed. These "wings' are easily removed to use the space between the box and the side walls of the truck bed. Corner to corner the truck bed is square. Next the boxes did not have the same problems identically. As I had related the issues I was presented with were purely poor quality control and build issues.
I agree with building your own box.

For 4K any GOOD carpenter could build you a well built, custom fit, drawer system. Id be looking locally. And ppl wonder why the Chinese are overtaking the world. Yeah they build crap, but at least its cheap crap. Longest lasting thing they ever crated was the Wuhan Flu. Sorry about all your troubles with the company and the destroyer, I mean "shipper". Thanks for making your video.

true but Decked is plastic and not made for 8' truck beds

@@outdoordetective Look up HDPE. It is pretty much indestructible High Density Poly Ethylene, not "plastic". These guys have government contracts (Check nearly every cop car) so they don't care about quality.

@@wb2194 I have. I am a fan of the "Decked" systems. Unfortunately they are not made for 8' truck beds. Not interested in a 6' 7" box in an 8' bed. seemed to be the only issue for me. They are weather resistant which makes them a pretty good option for my purposes. its just the 8' thing thats a no sale for me.

2nd thoughts on my behalf. Could have built one for 1/4th cost and it would have been square. I just finished squaring up the drawer fronts.

S I have many truck vaults that I use professionally. I have always dont they have great response time and great customer service. While I personally believe a Truck Vault is great for organization and to prevent the “smash and grab” I don’t believe they are that secure. But their construction has always been spot on. It looks to me like that second box was impacted in shipping and racked. The condition of that second box should be a shipping claim. That slight racking is not consistent with their usual quality.

Unfortunately the owner never contacted me as I was told he would and to have two separate units that have very bad build quality is a pretty good sign of bad quality control.

Actually, I believe they are manufactured at a Sedro-Woolley, Washington plant or Mount Jackson, Virginia. Based on my experience they have a total lack of customer support and manufacturing quality control.

unfortunately with the present administration there is not a thing I could do about anything if I wanted to, without being viewed by these crazy leftists as a criminal. The issue with Truck Vault is the Owner's complete lack of response to the problems I was presented with.
