- Behringer Wasp Deluxe Clone - Part 1 - Overview and Comparison
In this video I look at the Behringer Wasp Deluxe and compare it to the Wasp Special.

I have the Jasper DIY Wasp Clone which I built and was argued in the forums that Behringer copied. The ENH waveform stands for "Enhanced" and IS PWM. These are pulse width modulated square waves, controlled by simple fixed 0.3Hz LFOs - the same as implemented on the Gnat’s single oscillator.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the gnat oscillator.
@@RunningonairMusic I thought everyone knew ENH is the PWM ?
Apart from the original gnat, I'm not sure the term has been used anywhere else. Although in the end, it's a case of RTFM.
So we should be able to get a Hoover type patch with it having pwm ?
Enh is also on the Neutron, but is possibly different as it's waveform is more complex than simple PWM.
The ENH was the PWM on the OSCar, which was made by the same guys. So I guess they wanted to pay homage to that synthesizer, although it's only confusing.
Yeah, it's not a problem when you know what it is.
As always clearly explained and very interesting
Glad you think so!
Great video! really give an insight into this synth.
Thanks, going to do a follow-up next week.
Not receiving pitch bend over midi seriously drives me crazy.
The original wasp had digital oscillators.
Yes, it did.
cool !!!
Thanks!
I'm modding my novation bass station rack to add a an SH101 sub-osc, Im thinking of doing the same on the wasp deluxe, it definitely fattens it up
Sounds like a fun idea!
After when you posted this video, 2 years ago, you probably know what ENH means now lol.
The Behringer Wasp has been for ages now been my GOTO for fat bass sounds. I have a Roland Jd-xi and love it as a Groovebox style synth (I have an MC-303 as well), I think everyone that agrees that has one realises that it lacks in Analogue capabilities. This fills the gap for me
Yeah, I have a similar role for it in my setup.
I was hoping this video had an original wasp in the studio to compare too.
Yeah, sadly i sold the old one, but it does sound the same to me.
I use the BEND control a lot.... I don't consider it tuning, it's like having the little lever or pitch wheel on the left
Sure, i just felt it didn't work well for me.
I assumed "enh" was short for "enhanced" as a means of describing PWM on the Gnat
Killer 👊
Cheers
I got a industrial type drum beat out of my wasp by mistake. Have photo /vid of the patch if anyone's interested.
Yes, would love to hear it!

@B G it's just in the link above 👌
Good video. It’s helpful to hear your informed assessment. Would the average synth person be able to detect the real one from the Wasp Deluxe?
Probably not.
Great video. Great synth (I’ll avoid politics as much as I can……). EDP were fantastic
Yes, I was trying too as well. I think that accounts for the extra thumbs down, as I'm pretty sure the videos are getting better. Back to the old stuff next time.
does it found like a wasp? i’ve played the real thing and i always feel like i’ve gotten electrostatics shock after playing it. there’s no point buying this if it’s just another new subtractive synth, but it it stings like the real wasp then i really would want it. what confuses me is that they used digital oscillators? maybe to gain control over tuning? i am worried, now they’ve announced the polyvoks that they’ll “tame” that too? that would suck. the polyvoks is like a raging beast!
i have an avant- garde improv gig coming up in september, drone with a few pedals sounds perfect! maybe i’ll get this little beast after all.
Yes, it does sound exactly like how I remember the wasp. The Wasp always had a lot of digital in it. that's why it was cheap and had a membrane keyboard. I think the oscillators are just digitally controlled, but there's no CPU or software driving anything. It's just logic gates.
yeah, I reckon you could do quite a lot with that.
Uhh...er um..the original wasp had digital oscillators. Y'all don't know that ?
true@@zdave6083 yes that is true. I own an original for 30 years . Out of the clones the wasp is probably the one that sounds least like the original. But it is a pretty good entry level mono synth, just sounds like something else.
Aren’t the filters 12dB vs 24? Otherwise very great overview!
Yes, I think your probably right! the only reference I could find said 12.
No double triggering? Interesting.
Yep, seems to be.
@@RunningonairMusic Either way though, you are getting some super top sounds out of this even when you are fiddling and accidentally programming. You know your notch!
Thanks, as you say, just playing about.
Drone ?? - that’s a waste of a good synth
True, but the hold switch makes it an option.
Another overcooked review. No need for Oscilloscopes and all that stuff and nonsense. If you like the sound it makes, and it makes you happy - it's for you. (It's not a 'Drone Machine" by any means - It's a very versatile 2 Synth)
Yes, it is a very versatile Synth, and it does make me happy to have it back. Thanks for the feed back.
I bought one, had it 3 months, sold it. Missed it. Bad. 18 months later: I bought one again. I’m not ever letting it go. For a monophonic entry level synth? You can’t beat it for the price. Just wish the one knob on far left was a slider, like all other synths. Wish it had more spread too. It doesn’t even go up or down by one octave. Virtually useless. Everything else?: A fakken plus!
Yeah great synth! I'll be hanging onto mine too!
Is it possible to replace pitch pot with a wider range one?
@@darrelldourte9455 No. the range only differs by choosing different octaves.
