      Sometimes new products are just good advertising or packaging.
      Eg, there is a particular item in gardening that is $10-20, depending on the size you need, but you could solve the same problem by filling up your large pots with empty plastic bottles. Same end result of keeping your large pots light and not having to fill the entire thing with potting soil.

    Ideally you should run the system for a day or two without adding fish. After a day or two you can add fish and let it run for a week 10 days before you can start putting in you seeds. Since this system is small in size .. it would take atleast 8 weeks before you can see the results of cycling

    • @fedebla70

      Federico Blasi Great observation ... One month is also workable .. one just need to watch out for mosquito breading. This is one of the reason i add fish in a few days from setting up the system. But the nitrification cycle will take 8 weeks atleast.

    This is a clever design. I think I would modify it to draw almost 1/2 the amount of water into a cup/2ltr bottle that tips over & floods the entire grow bed every 15 minutes (like an ebb & flow.) so that the water could be cycled 2 times in an hour. (If you did this, you could run it off of a deep cycle battery at night, and a solar cell during the day.) Very neat idea. Thank you for sharing this.

    • @prehistoricgamer9503
      @prehistoricgamer9503 Před 8 lety +1

      +Yeshwanth Naidu Aquaponics is a special style of farming, where instead of growing plants in soil, you grow them in manured water and gravel. I've seen people also use clay balls for that.

    • @yeshwanthnaidu6436

    • @vinilratnakaran
      @vinilratnakaran  Před 8 lety +4

      +Yeshwanth Naidu Those clay pebbles are called LECA (light Expanded Clay Aggregate) also knows as Hydroton. Very porous and has a lot of surface area where the bacteria can colonize.

    • @yeshwanthnaidu6436
      @yeshwanthnaidu6436 Před 8 lety +1

      +vinil ratnakaran thanks mate! :)

    • @vinilratnakaran
      @vinilratnakaran  Před 8 lety +6

      +Yeshwanth Naidu Plants does not require mud ... plants need only 3 things to grow 1, sunlight. 2 nutrients and 3 water. Plants take up nutrients that are dissolved in water. If you supply nutrients and sunlight then the grow media (mud or gravel) is only to hold the plant upright. However in Aquaponics mud will not work as it will reduce the water flow and the system will fail.

    I've watched this video more than a year ago, but now, since I'm getting a new fish tank soon, (around 4ft) I wanted to try aquaponics.. I've spent hours today watching videos on youtube and this is still the best one there is, I wish your voice was a bit louder compared to the background noise but your method is the best! Great job buddy :)

    New subscriber now! Thanks for showing a DYI method for aquaponics. I am researching and attempting to design a small system soon. I grow hot peppers and other vegetables on my channel. Looking forward to seeing your other videos.

    I absolutely love this and plan on using this as my first aquaponic garden. Something fun to do with my daughter as well
    Thank you for this great idea! and thank you for actually going step by step rather than just pointing your camera at a system! lol
