Wait, you got something wrong. Edison did not pay Brown to do the experiments, he no longer owned the company...he was present at one of the experiments because of the filming which was done by a company of his and that is what he signed off on. The filming of the experiment.
I was born and raised in central NJ so threw out school we learned a lot about Edison and very little about Tesla. I my self felt Tesla was not talked about in school enough. I remember going to the giant light bulb in Edison, NJ and Edison's lab in West Orange, NJ (Menlo Park, NJ).
I love this super deep dive/ movie length video. But, I don't know if I'll have the attention span to watch depending upon topic. But this pretty cool. Especially with Edison/Tesla. There's so much cool information I honestly never knew.
The pendulum of bullshit makes its return journey. For most of the 20th century, American schools had the figure of Edison hugely over-inflated and ignored Tesla almost entirely. When people started catching on that Tesla was both a better engineer and had been maltreated by Edison, people tried to paint him as an almost Christlike figure to Edison's ultra villian.
This in-depth review of Edison, his work, work ethic and massively important and life changing contributions to the world is brilliantly assembled and narrated. Having been previously absolutely sold on the commonly popular villain-vilified narrative of the association between Edison and Tesla, I am now more understanding of the realities of the time and situations. That Tesla did not document or otherwise pursue fulfillment of the $50k promise/suggestion (other than quitting Edison) seems to point to that story being more of a rumor than a fact. Tesla still certainly had advanced ideas, which in a different working situation and possibly later time in the 20th century, might have seen more of his concepts proven out, making him a more prominent name in industrial revolution technology history. Ole Nick's still a hero in my book!

@@braddo7270 Sorry :( ... I didn't sit welded to my chair in front of my desktop awaiting eagerly with anticipation your response, I had other things to do and watching the video wasn't one of them. I had already watched it ... don't you feel silly now for your false and foolish assumption.
this was really good but very long. i had to watch it over several days. maybe dividing it into parts would have worked.
I think that anyone who lives as long as Edison is neither all good nor all bad. This piece is clearly from someone who is a fan of the man. I respect the hard work as well as the ingenuity of the man. However, I do not discount other opinions of the time from inventors who felt slighted by the savvy business man. I think there is room for both respect and reflection. Edison later in life was a rich and powerful man with rich and powerful friends. The victors write the history books after all.
An absolute banger 👍
As a mathematician I must contest the dismissal of x.
I have a cat named Peter, lol. My eldest human kitten named him after Spiderman. I tried to use Mrs Slokham's word, but the youtoobs didn't like it
@TodayIFoundOut ❤,❤, ❤ the idea of occasional ’Deep Dive’ on misconceptions of famous peeps
Maybe "C" is usless in English but there are different languages that use that letter, as separate sound to k or s like in english, for example in my native Polish "C" represents non existant in eng. sound that You can emulate by combining letter T and Z used as a dyftong
Kia Silverbrook had over four times as many patents as Edison.
Yay Mariners, must be from Washington state
Edifying.
Wait, how does Simon pronounce Maryland better?
Awesome video!
So the musical "Newsies" is inspired by baby Eddison?
Edison did invent somethings, but most of his patents were taken from others, Edison was drama loving self promoting soscealp athletic
dont forget westinghouse
I learnt all my facts about Edison from the Simpsons, so it has to be true
Where's Simon
Great info and not too long considering you covered a ton of ground with this one. It’s a tall task to follow someone who’s a natural like Simon but rather than just say “good job” which doesn’t actually help you improve I wanted to give you some constructive feedback. First, way too much finger lacing with your index fingers pointing up. With such a long video it’s pretty distracting. Second, you tend to laugh while you’re still speaking which makes it tough to understand you. Lastly, you mispronounced some fairly common phrases and words like Carte Blanche and zealous. Other than those few things it was a well researched and presented video. I can tell you’re passionate about what you’re doing. Thank you!
What happened to the limey Swedish guy?
Daven!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Nice to see a video from my area.
This was such an incredible episode!!!
XQC shade in a 2:20:00 tesla eddieson essay lol
Well, X and Q are pretty dumb letters, they deserve it. This C slander, however, cannot be abided.
Well done! Bonus points for mentioning Mr Rogers!
Seems everything I thought I knew was correct after all
