I agree. While fake in difficulty, this entire ending sequence still had a feeling of urgency to it. To me, it still felt very ace combat and especially that line made me well up a little.

Wow I went into that video thinking it might have just been someone whining about a boss fight being to hard but no. There were no advanced maneuvers or anything, no special attack styles, just a bunch of 'LOL I CAN SUDDENLY BREAK THE LAWS OF PHYSICS BETTER THAN YOU'
The Cobra manuver and jinking is all I saw in this video. Though realistically if you're on their tail in a AFM dogfight it take one spray to shred a plane to submission.

You forgot the part where Akula is effectively tougher than Aigaion just because they want to script an ultra-long battle. This scripted-to-not-die-until-we-find-it-climatic bullshit is among the most annoying.

@@irkkunen4933 They seemed to have learned about scripted boss encounters between AH and AC7. Mihaly flies like a beast possessed and is constantly outside the combat envelope of any weapons you might have. You can follow him at a fairly leisurely pace and just wait for chances to advance the script. But then they do actually let you off the leash and have a proper fight with him at the end.

I very much agree with the description. What I was most disappointed with was the bomber mission. I expected it to be an aircraft with something like 200+ UGBLs that you could throw all over the place and no missiles, that would have made for a nice change of pace. While it does have that armament, the _entire fucking playtime on the bomber_ revolves around getting to scripted points (if you don't do that in x seconds the game will fail) to start scripted bombing runs, and you can't even miss an enemy because that will instantly fail the game. You can't turn around and go for another bombing run because of that, you can't throw bombs if you are not along the scripted path, *you can't do fucking anything unless the game has a specific scripted sequence for it*. This is what I hate about Assault Horizon and most other "Modern Military American Realistic Videogame".
Well it looks sickening, the camera moving constantly, the absurd moves of aircrafts..., and the main character, wtf?, does he even have feelings?, is he even pretending to be nervous or something?, good lord, Unsung War had MUCH BETTER characters, the radio chatter alone was EPIC compared to AH one.
This is somehow worse than hitting Mihaly with 27 missiles and a third of your cannon's total ammo in AC7 on Farbanti and he ends up leaving only because he's getting DDOSed and not that his plane got deleted 50 times over and he's just realizing that maybe he should leave. And not gonna lie: the concept of the battle shown in this video is great, but dear lord is the execution rough...
I hate moments like 2:21 where I'm in the middle of doing something, an the camera thinks that it's okay to completely disorent me and ruin my focus, by zooming in to some random explosion fifty miles away.
Ace Combat 4,5, and 0 were and still are the best games in the series. The Unsung War was heartrending, as well as it made you cling to it like no other AC game had or even has ever done. The campaign was thrilling, and the character development was great, when your comrade Chopper dies, everything just seemed different and there was that hole as the protagonist that you would personally feel as if you just lost a fellow comrade, a friend at that. That's where the brilliancy in it is. 4 didn't necessarily have the character development as you would think, but all in all, the campaign got me hooked immediately and the replay value is priceless. That was the first Ace Combat game I had ever played, it was so good, and still is, that I even took the game from my grandparent's house when I was much younger just to keep playing it. 0 took things from a different approach, there was some development with the antagonist, which you fought against while he was in he Falken in the end. Its campaign was strong and again, gave you a different perspective on the Ace Combat series. After watching let's plays of Air Combat, 2, and 3, I saw more of the differences in the atmospheres of the Ace Combat series. I agree with you on AH, it was sub-par to what the other games had in them.

I've only played a handful of Ace Combats and my list from best to worst goes 0, 5, 7, 4, then assault horizons which is trash IMO. The story in 4 was better than 7's story but 7 looks so nice and when your missiles hit their target it has such a nice feeling and sound.
The game is scripted every level. a lot of people get the impression that this version of the game is intended for realism. sadly, it is not. it is tailored below realism. jets don't suddenly flip hard up and you both end up chasing each other's tail forever. the game forces you to use dog mode every time.
I understand that AH is an arcade, but so is every single Ace Combat game! Even then, they refrain from making things looks utterly ridiculous. Even the Wyvern is uncapable of doing those snappy maneuvers.

I loved the ace combat series. I hope 7 heading back to Osea doesn't keep stuff like this. A scripted final fight based around the annoying dogfight mode really killed the game for me. I loved it outside of dogfight.
This is one reason I liked Assault Horizon Legacy for the 3DS. It still had the "dogfight mode" in a way, but it did it a lot better. You would get a small transition and then end up behind you opponent, but then if your opponent turned, you wouldn't chase after them like you do in this game. It would put you behind them, but all the movement you made once behind them was up to you. Plus Legacy was a reboot of Ace Combat 2. Same story with a few slight changes so it took place in the Ace Combat universe. For a 3DS game, it was really fucking amazing. And in all honesty, you could play the game and win dogfights just fine without the "dogfight mode.
I really enjoyed Legacy, it's one of my favorites for the 3DS. It really seems like a great reminder of what Ace Combat was. My only complaint with the PAL version of Legacy is that they removed support for the circle pad pro.

In my opinion this is the black sheep of the Ace Combat franchise. I love Ace Combat 4 and when I walked into this game thinking it was gonna be like AC4 I was highly disappointed.

I fucking hate this game being scripted in 90%. Ac:X Alect squadron + fenrir were way more satisfying and, well, hard to say invisible plane is realistic, but still, than this. They would actually die after 3 missles in the face, not after a million of them. Also, they didn't do 'lol I can break the laws of physics'; they'd just turn imvisible when on your 12 and reappear after few sec on your 6 with a missle up your ass. Still better than this. And it was on the freakin' psp!
Ace Combat X was a great game. It gave you tons of freedom in what to do, what to target first etc. For example, in Break In where the airplanes carrying the MBSRs open fire on your wingmen, you can still save them and have them help you later in the mission.

Ace Combat Infinity looks good, but I wish they'd just make HD versions of Ace Combat 4, 5, and 6 with updated graphics and sound, and maybe a few new mechanics. But they should stick to the same old, but still the best, formula. Of course, AC:AH was nothing but Call of Doodies: Airplane Drama.

Worst Ace Combat boss ever. At least Pasternak in AC6 was actually hard but can be killed by actual in-game mechanics. DFM wasn't that great to begin with. Sure it makes for some grandiose scenes but several instances I can put 6+ missiles into a fighter w/ constant MG spam yet he doesn't die. That's BS.
The worst scripting and unrealistic boss battle in an Ace Combat game goes to Ace Combat: Joint Assault for the Sony PSP handheld. In the final mission over San Francisco, after downing all those fighters, B-2 stealth bombers, and sinking those lethal aegis air defense cruisers, you take on your rival mercenary squadron, shooting down the three wingmen and then go after their leader --IN THAT ORDER! Don't even think about tackling the boss until you have splashed the other members of his squadron, because his Varcolac fighter is about twenty times tougher than the other Varcolac fighters of that squadron. Plus, you have to listen to the boss whine over the radio about his unfortunate childhood and his ambitions to be the best once he shoots you down. Yeah, yeah, blah-blah. You have three instances to damage the boss before you can shoot him down, but he is invulnerable when he's talking, so don't waste ammo when he's yakking all that inane garbage. Even if you are tailgating him with a Falken and are roasting the living hell out of his plane with your TLS death-ray (aka the wavering light saber of doom), you're just wasting laser fuel until he finishes that part of his scripted diatribe against this unfair world. Ugh, I hated that last mission! Forced scripting ruined it. It would have been so much more rewarding if the game allowed you to shoot him down before he was done babbling puerile gibberish! Such as if you used a Russian Su-47 Berkut with her SASMs to take out that simpering swine Sulejmani with those wonderful air-burst missiles regardless of his anti-missile tail guns and cut his complaints short. Ace Combat: Joint Assault is a really good game for the PSP handheld, even with the annoying boss scripting bilge.
Ugh! I could not stand that final boss. had to listen to that simpering garbage. That game should have had a special ending where if you S-rank a special mission, you could decide the fate of that downed boss. (1) Let him go, (2) Imprison him for treachery, or (3) Kill his family, kill his friends, make him watch and then kill him too (after months of torture).
Honestly, If they gameplay of Assault Horizon was replaced with the gameplay of AC7 or the Holy Trinity, I think it would have been a decent game. The downfall is the DFM.

Jesus, I remember the fucking Varcolacs in AC: Joint Assault on PSP, and the final dogfight with Milosz and his squadron. The Player was unable to shoot him while he gave his speech, additionally he had machine gun mounted ON THE BACK of his plane, rendering all your missles useless... He also was able to perform stops and maneuvers in midair, That mission gave me tides of frustration..

I've just gotten out from under my rock.. Is this actually ace combat?? This seems like something out of Call of Duty! It's just a bloody rail shooter! Ace Combat 6 is my favourite of the series so far (haven't played many). It isn't the typical Russia vs America game, where America cannot lose or the game wouldn't sell. This of course means that it's actually like a war happening. The missions are actually quite hard, for example the final mission on Expert (using the Nosferatu!) took me 17 attempts to complete. And this dogfight mode has just completely killed the fun of it. You're scripted to win by just holding a button for long enough, and the jet flies for you.
Sam Davis 4,5 and Zero are considered the Holy Trinity of Ace Combat. The storyline and the character development, especially in 5 and Zero, are enough to drag you in.

The latest three AC games seem more like "test products": Assault Horizon introduced the "Dogfight mode" (bullshit), and the "Steel carnage" system (plane gore). Infinity was testing a new multiplayer mode (Cue to AC7). Skies unknown is testing the VR mode, the weather system, etc... If NAMCO is onto something, the next strangereal Ace combat (AC8?) is going to be fucking nuts.
even though Ace combat 5 is a great game, id rather see Ace combat 4 redone, mobious 1 just takes the cake in any flight game ever, its by far one of the best AC games with AC 5 coming in a close second.
This game had me so hyped I enjoyed all the other games alot and then I played it for twenty minutes and was so pissed, on rails dogfighting and restrictive feeling gameplay isn't what an ace combat game should be at all, I turned it off after 20 minutes and never touched it again waste of 50 bucks,
Having recently completed this game, I can say the thing which seriously pissed me off in this final mission was that the countermanoeuvre system wouldn't always work - I'd level the plane off and slow it down enough to try and loop around behind Markov, but the controls seemed to refuse to register that I'd hit the right key to do that, leaving me completely open for the QAAMs.
More important than "artificial difficulty" is the loss of immersion one gets when one shoots missile after missile, gun shot after gun shot, to no observable effect. It becomes aggravating and distracting. At least in a similar boss fight in Ace Combat Zero, there are stages in the fight and the player feels they are making progress. This is not the case here.
4:31 You're wrong, you can certainly dodge them. All you need to do is initiate DFM when missiles are fired then they fly straight. If you are already in DFM then you simply disengage (and initiate right after if possible)
The fact that until last year this was the only game the vast majority of people associated with the Ace Combat name(maybe AC06 if they had memories that went back to the early 360 days) is _extremely_ disappointing. Oh and also I'm still mad at Angry Joe for praising this bullshit dogfighting mechanic.
Problem with Assault Horizon is it seems awesome when you watch but it's a crazy mess when you play it, a rollercoaster that fixes you on rails and drags you through a bunch of scripted, frantic, cinematic set pieces that look cool but never feel cool cus you aren't actually playing the game half the time. The old AC games may not have looked that cinematic sometimes, but when you played them and got invested in the stories, and you took on those enemy ace squadrons, you felt like a badass.
The DFM and Ground Attack Mode mechanisms are the worst most cancerous aicraft game mechanics ever implemented, even more so than H. A. W. X. 's Assistance off mode. The game drove me nuts... Everything was arbitrary. Worst actual game design in the Ace Combat Series.
HAWX was good for the first 5 missions, after that the missions repeat a lot. I finished the first gamr but for some reason i didnt like too much the second.
Trothar Dragon I don't think you can. Considering it's it's an AAM4 Sidewinder, your only hope of evading them is to jam them electronically. It's nigh impossible to dodge an LGM (Laser Guided Missile) just by flying the opposite direction.
Back then when I bought this game for PS3 I was coming from Ace Combat 5 and Ace Combat Zero, such masterpieces. My disappointment was unmeasurable, such a shitty game this ended up to be.
Had been playing Ace Combat 04 on PS2 so when I found this on Steam lets buy it. Ugh QTEs left right and center and COD in the air later downloaded an emulator to my PC and played Ace Combat 04 instead using the emulator since I dont have a PS2. At least Ace Combat 7 goes back to the roots except for the unlimited gun ammo. Sure the return line might stop the action for a little bit but was still a fun thing

It just does not make sense. And the unlimited gun ammo at least ensures you can still fight even after firing everything else.

Mercenary7 Could also be intentional. You listen to real pilot chatter, and even under crazy situations they're not overly-dramatic. Its part of their training. If you start freaking out inside something as complex and expensive as a jet fighter, you are screwed beyond measure. Its the same kind of training snipers undergo. The logical suppression of your emotions so that they don't compromise your operation.
Reminds me of the time when I used unlimited instant missile mod on Mihaly in his Su-30SM. 12 consecutive hits with SASMs can't beat plot armor apparently.

+Frikgeek That's because they can have a lot of depth to them despite not saying a single word, and also makes the game more personal. Ace Combat Zero did this the best by making that a plot point: Nobody knows anything about your character, and the entire Framing Device is finding out about him. The fact that this changes depending on how you play makes it even more believable. And considering all the crap that Cipher went through in-game (nuclear holocausts, losing his wingmen and having to Air Joust with one of his best friends), all of this transfers through to the player. 4 also gave your protagonist a character arc that legitimized him being a badass ace that everyone feared and respected without a single line of dialogue. He started out as a rookie pilot, progressing from air-to-ground to air-to-air missions. Then his squadron gets torn apart in mission 5 by Yellow squadron, and you can't do shit to any of them. Then in mission 8 he actually lands a hit on the deadly enemy squadron, and from that point on he's basically carrying the entire ISAF's morale on his very own. 5... Well, your main character isn't much, but people love your main squadron, Wardog. All the tragedies and trials they go through in saving both Osea and Yuktobania makes them lovely protagonists in many people's eyes. And that's AC in general really: The best stories in AC are mostly about the people AROUND your main character. Your squadron, the people close to you and all the people affected by you, including your enemies. And I think here in Assault Horizon, people didn't find any of that charm.
So for you: 1.over 3 million players equals none 2. Have you tried the game and if yes, have you tried Sim battles? I have big doubts that you even know what you're talking about (like all of your other comments on youtube)

The Cobra manuver and jinking is all I saw in this video. Though realistically if you're on their tail in a AFM dogfight it take one spray to shred a plane to submission.
My guess is that Assault Horizon was more of a test of the dogfight mode system and how it can be implemented.

The thing that I hated about the game was the lack of enemy communications, Like in AC 6 the enemies sounded cocky at the start of the mission but at during the end they were in total panic.
I'm glad AC7 came out. It made up for the many mistakes and errors seen in ACAH.

Markov must have a jet made of durachrome, flintsteel, duralloy and endurachrome.
All he needed to finish this list were Hellbores, infinite repeaters, "Isis" (not as terrorists, but as Egyptian godess) missiles and battlescreens.

Mihaly flies like a beast possessed and is constantly outside the combat envelope of any weapons you might have. You can follow him at a fairly leisurely pace and just wait for chances to advance the script. But then they do actually let you off the leash and have a proper fight with him at the end.

I very much agree with the description.
What I was most disappointed with was the bomber mission. I expected it to be an aircraft with something like 200+ UGBLs that you could throw all over the place and no missiles, that would have made for a nice change of pace. While it does have that armament, the _entire fucking playtime on the bomber_ revolves around getting to scripted points (if you don't do that in x seconds the game will fail) to start scripted bombing runs, and you can't even miss an enemy because that will instantly fail the game. You can't turn around and go for another bombing run because of that, you can't throw bombs if you are not along the scripted path, *you can't do fucking anything unless the game has a specific scripted sequence for it*. This is what I hate about Assault Horizon and most other "Modern Military American Realistic Videogame".

Well it looks sickening, the camera moving constantly, the absurd moves of aircrafts..., and the main character, wtf?, does he even have feelings?, is he even pretending to be nervous or something?, good lord, Unsung War had MUCH BETTER characters, the radio chatter alone was EPIC compared to AH one.

Rubiconnn AC4 probably has one of the best stories in AC, right up there with with Zero.
This is somehow worse than hitting Mihaly with 27 missiles and a third of your cannon's total ammo in AC7 on Farbanti and he ends up leaving only because he's getting DDOSed and not that his plane got deleted 50 times over and he's just realizing that maybe he should leave.
And not gonna lie: the concept of the battle shown in this video is great, but dear lord is the execution rough...

I hate moments like 2:21 where I'm in the middle of doing something, an the camera thinks that it's okay to completely disorent me and ruin my focus, by zooming in to some random explosion fifty miles away.
Ace Combat 4,5, and 0 were and still are the best games in the series. The Unsung War was heartrending, as well as it made you cling to it like no other AC game had or even has ever done. The campaign was thrilling, and the character development was great, when your comrade Chopper dies, everything just seemed different and there was that hole as the protagonist that you would personally feel as if you just lost a fellow comrade, a friend at that. That's where the brilliancy in it is. 4 didn't necessarily have the character development as you would think, but all in all, the campaign got me hooked immediately and the replay value is priceless. That was the first Ace Combat game I had ever played, it was so good, and still is, that I even took the game from my grandparent's house when I was much younger just to keep playing it. 0 took things from a different approach, there was some development with the antagonist, which you fought against while he was in he Falken in the end. Its campaign was strong and again, gave you a different perspective on the Ace Combat series. After watching let's plays of Air Combat, 2, and 3, I saw more of the differences in the atmospheres of the Ace Combat series. I agree with you on AH, it was sub-par to what the other games had in them.

I've only played a handful of Ace Combats and my list from best to worst goes 0, 5, 7, 4, then assault horizons which is trash IMO. The story in 4 was better than 7's story but 7 looks so nice and when your missiles hit their target it has such a nice feeling and sound.
The game is scripted every level. a lot of people get the impression that this version of the game is intended for realism. sadly, it is not. it is tailored below realism. jets don't suddenly flip hard up and you both end up chasing each other's tail forever. the game forces you to use dog mode every time.
Akula does a flip *through* your plane at one point.
I understand that AH is an arcade, but so is every single Ace Combat game! Even then, they refrain from making things looks utterly ridiculous. Even the Wyvern is uncapable of doing those snappy maneuvers.
@@NothingXemnas every AC is indeed arcade who said it was flight sim, BUT ace combat has a flow and strategically combat flow that you can shoot all the missiles and shit as you want its still following the rules of attack in real aircraft just simplified, while ACAH you can just activate dogfight mode shoot the enemies and BOOM they're down and this was where this game wrong, it was ruining the strategic aspect of shooting a missiles and attack the enemies that AC has for years
I loved the ace combat series. I hope 7 heading back to Osea doesn't keep stuff like this. A scripted final fight based around the annoying dogfight mode really killed the game for me. I loved it outside of dogfight.

7 is supposed to be more traditional AC. So hopefully no Dogfight Mode BS. Which also hopefully means we'll have a halfway decent final boss.
The final boss in AC7 is annoying especially the tunnel escape part.
This is one reason I liked Assault Horizon Legacy for the 3DS. It still had the "dogfight mode" in a way, but it did it a lot better. You would get a small transition and then end up behind you opponent, but then if your opponent turned, you wouldn't chase after them like you do in this game. It would put you behind them, but all the movement you made once behind them was up to you.
Plus Legacy was a reboot of Ace Combat 2. Same story with a few slight changes so it took place in the Ace Combat universe. For a 3DS game, it was really fucking amazing. And in all honesty, you could play the game and win dogfights just fine without the "dogfight mode.
I really enjoyed Legacy, it's one of my favorites for the 3DS. It really seems like a great reminder of what Ace Combat was. My only complaint with the PAL version of Legacy is that they removed support for the circle pad pro.
I miss the old badass Ace Combat games, the original Electrosphere is still my favorite one.

Oh don't forget crimson 1 doesn't has any plot armor in his battle so you can hit him even before caution screen and his HP appear (and when the hp bar appear it shows his HP is decrease) and even you can die at mission introduction screen

I fucking hate this game being scripted in 90%. Ac:X Alect squadron + fenrir were way more satisfying and, well, hard to say invisible plane is realistic, but still, than this. They would actually die after 3 missles in the face, not after a million of them. Also, they didn't do 'lol I can break the laws of physics'; they'd just turn imvisible when on your 12 and reappear after few sec on your 6 with a missle up your ass. Still better than this. And it was on the freakin' psp!

Ace Combat X was a great game. It gave you tons of freedom in what to do, what to target first etc. For example, in Break In where the airplanes carrying the MBSRs open fire on your wingmen, you can still save them and have them help you later in the mission.
i must say after finishing this game i went back and re-bought Ace combat 6 and my god is it better then Assault Horizon

Ace Combat Infinity looks good, but I wish they'd just make HD versions of Ace Combat 4, 5, and 6 with updated graphics and sound, and maybe a few new mechanics. But they should stick to the same old, but still the best, formula. Of course, AC:AH was nothing but Call of Doodies: Airplane Drama.

The worst scripting and unrealistic boss battle in an Ace Combat game goes to Ace Combat: Joint Assault for the Sony PSP handheld. In the final mission over San Francisco, after downing all those fighters, B-2 stealth bombers, and sinking those lethal aegis air defense cruisers, you take on your rival mercenary squadron, shooting down the three wingmen and then go after their leader --IN THAT ORDER! Don't even think about tackling the boss until you have splashed the other members of his squadron, because his Varcolac fighter is about twenty times tougher than the other Varcolac fighters of that squadron. Plus, you have to listen to the boss whine over the radio about his unfortunate childhood and his ambitions to be the best once he shoots you down. Yeah, yeah, blah-blah. You have three instances to damage the boss before you can shoot him down, but he is invulnerable when he's talking, so don't waste ammo when he's yakking all that inane garbage. Even if you are tailgating him with a Falken and are roasting the living hell out of his plane with your TLS death-ray (aka the wavering light saber of doom), you're just wasting laser fuel until he finishes that part of his scripted diatribe against this unfair world. Ugh, I hated that last mission! Forced scripting ruined it. It would have been so much more rewarding if the game allowed you to shoot him down before he was done babbling puerile gibberish! Such as if you used a Russian Su-47 Berkut with her SASMs to take out that simpering swine Sulejmani with those wonderful air-burst missiles regardless of his anti-missile tail guns and cut his complaints short. Ace Combat: Joint Assault is a really good game for the PSP handheld, even with the annoying boss scripting bilge.

Jesus, I remember the fucking Varcolacs in AC: Joint Assault on PSP, and the final dogfight with Milosz and his squadron. The Player was unable to shoot him while he gave his speech, additionally he had machine gun mounted ON THE BACK of his plane, rendering all your missles useless... He also was able to perform stops and maneuvers in midair, That mission gave me tides of frustration..

Ace Combat 6 is my favourite of the series so far (haven't played many).
It isn't the typical Russia vs America game, where America cannot lose or the game wouldn't sell. This of course means that it's actually like a war happening.
The missions are actually quite hard, for example the final mission on Expert (using the Nosferatu!) took me 17 attempts to complete.
And this dogfight mode has just completely killed the fun of it. You're scripted to win by just holding a button for long enough, and the jet flies for you.

Sam Davis 4,5 and Zero are considered the Holy Trinity of Ace Combat. The storyline and the character development, especially in 5 and Zero, are enough to drag you in.

Zero and 5 were my all time favorite. Unlocking every color and plane. My triumph when I unlocked the "Pixy" color for the ADFX-02 Morgan.
The latest three AC games seem more like "test products":
Assault Horizon introduced the "Dogfight mode" (bullshit), and the "Steel carnage" system (plane gore).
Infinity was testing a new multiplayer mode (Cue to AC7).
Skies unknown is testing the VR mode, the weather system, etc...
If NAMCO is onto something, the next strangereal Ace combat (AC8?) is going to be fucking nuts.

This game had me so hyped I enjoyed all the other games alot and then I played it for twenty minutes and was so pissed, on rails dogfighting and restrictive feeling gameplay isn't what an ace combat game should be at all, I turned it off after 20 minutes and never touched it again waste of 50 bucks,
I sold it secondhand on ebay for $30 after two weeks when the multiplayer still wasn't online.
SO...the only way to drop a tail is to literally use some form of "push button, receive maneuver"? Holy grail of fails in game design...
Having recently completed this game, I can say the thing which seriously pissed me off in this final mission was that the countermanoeuvre system wouldn't always work - I'd level the plane off and slow it down enough to try and loop around behind Markov, but the controls seemed to refuse to register that I'd hit the right key to do that, leaving me completely open for the QAAMs.
More important than "artificial difficulty" is the loss of immersion one gets when one shoots missile after missile, gun shot after gun shot, to no observable effect. It becomes aggravating and distracting. At least in a similar boss fight in Ace Combat Zero, there are stages in the fight and the player feels they are making progress. This is not the case here.

4:31 You're wrong, you can certainly dodge them. All you need to do is initiate DFM when missiles are fired then they fly straight. If you are already in DFM then you simply disengage (and initiate right after if possible)

The fact that until last year this was the only game the vast majority of people associated with the Ace Combat name(maybe AC06 if they had memories that went back to the early 360 days) is _extremely_ disappointing.
Oh and also I'm still mad at Angry Joe for praising this bullshit dogfighting mechanic.
Problem with Assault Horizon is it seems awesome when you watch but it's a crazy mess when you play it, a rollercoaster that fixes you on rails and drags you through a bunch of scripted, frantic, cinematic set pieces that look cool but never feel cool cus you aren't actually playing the game half the time. The old AC games may not have looked that cinematic sometimes, but when you played them and got invested in the stories, and you took on those enemy ace squadrons, you felt like a badass.
The Megalith Mission Intro cutscene is one of the single best things I've ever seen in a video game.
I love how his plane just breaks physics and flips through the air like an acrobat to get behind you.
Imagine if real world aerodynamics were applied here. He'd try that, and promptly rip his wings off.
This is why AC 6 final mission of blowing up a huge cannon felt better. It didn't force you on a rail and you had free control.
The DFM and Ground Attack Mode mechanisms are the worst most cancerous aicraft game mechanics ever implemented, even more so than H. A. W. X. 's Assistance off mode. The game drove me nuts... Everything was arbitrary. Worst actual game design in the Ace Combat Series.
@Channel07 judging from the gameplay HAWX was way better. But the recommended aircraft was the most infuriating thing in the whole game.
HAWX was good for the first 5 missions, after that the missions repeat a lot. I finished the first gamr but for some reason i didnt like too much the second.

BTW you can dodge those missiles pretty easily, they come at a pattern, from above, by you nosing down you made it much easier for then to track you
Trothar Dragon I don't think you can. Considering it's it's an AAM4 Sidewinder, your only hope of evading them is to jam them electronically. It's nigh impossible to dodge an LGM (Laser Guided Missile) just by flying the opposite direction.
Tyler Schwartz it's called pitching up, also there's an exploit, cancel DFM and renter it, that cancels all missile locks on your aircraft

One thing I didn't even thing about when I played this, the airport on the Potomac, Reagan, hasn't been called National in YEARS.
Back then when I bought this game for PS3 I was coming from Ace Combat 5 and Ace Combat Zero, such masterpieces. My disappointment was unmeasurable, such a shitty game this ended up to be.
Had been playing Ace Combat 04 on PS2 so when I found this on Steam lets buy it. Ugh QTEs left right and center and COD in the air later downloaded an emulator to my PC and played Ace Combat 04 instead using the emulator since I dont have a PS2.
At least Ace Combat 7 goes back to the roots except for the unlimited gun ammo. Sure the return line might stop the action for a little bit but was still a fun thing
@@Groza_Dallocort The problem with the return line is that it basically pauses the battle while your spending presumably hours flying back home, rearming, and flying back to the battle. It just does not make sense. And the unlimited gun ammo at least ensures you can still fight even after firing everything else.
@@ryanpayne7707 perhaps but you only got unlimited cannon ammo on easy and normal. Sure in AC7 missiles will keep respawning when you reach zero but it takes ages compared to if you still have like 40 left

Mercenary7 Could also be intentional. You listen to real pilot chatter, and even under crazy situations they're not overly-dramatic. Its part of their training. If you start freaking out inside something as complex and expensive as a jet fighter, you are screwed beyond measure.
Its the same kind of training snipers undergo. The logical suppression of your emotions so that they don't compromise your operation.

That's because they can have a lot of depth to them despite not saying a single word, and also makes the game more personal.
Ace Combat Zero did this the best by making that a plot point: Nobody knows anything about your character, and the entire Framing Device is finding out about him. The fact that this changes depending on how you play makes it even more believable. And considering all the crap that Cipher went through in-game (nuclear holocausts, losing his wingmen and having to Air Joust with one of his best friends), all of this transfers through to the player.
4 also gave your protagonist a character arc that legitimized him being a badass ace that everyone feared and respected without a single line of dialogue. He started out as a rookie pilot, progressing from air-to-ground to air-to-air missions. Then his squadron gets torn apart in mission 5 by Yellow squadron, and you can't do shit to any of them. Then in mission 8 he actually lands a hit on the deadly enemy squadron, and from that point on he's basically carrying the entire ISAF's morale on his very own.
5... Well, your main character isn't much, but people love your main squadron, Wardog. All the tragedies and trials they go through in saving both Osea and Yuktobania makes them lovely protagonists in many people's eyes.
And that's AC in general really: The best stories in AC are mostly about the people AROUND your main character. Your squadron, the people close to you and all the people affected by you, including your enemies. And I think here in Assault Horizon, people didn't find any of that charm.
I dunno. I care more about Blaze from Unsung War than I did about white guy.
