I’ve learnt the deeper meaning of this commercial. If it is played in reverse, it is an inspiring and ground breaking moment for Anthony Koutoufides. He is given a slouvaki, learns of the amazing skills of the monkey, is given a banana, and goes on his merry way. This is his hero’s journey. His novelization. His autobiography. It is played in reverse to illustrate the reverse-ness of the monkey compared to the human, and their juxtaposition between each others’s soul. After he leaves, he goes on to create an empire... an empire based around... slouvakis.
A year on and this is still baffling me.

I’ve had the word ‘Souvlaki’ stuck in my head for three months because of this video.
Damn, can't believe I didn't see this gem of a video sooner. I remember my friend showing me this mess before it came out, he was one of the two editors they put on it. He actually wrote souvlaki hut with his own handwriting and put in the rock in the background, I believe his reasoning was "in for a penny, in for a pound" hahahaha, the other editor just had to do the gorilla playing whatever that instrument was and my friend did everything else. One fun thing about the unnaturally bright grass is, it wasn't green originally, since he could only find an asset that fit the shot in purple and blue from some random sci-fi movie and had to correct it the best he could. Anyways that specifically was allegedly a big problem in pre-production and because of that the whole ad got the working title of Blue Harvest.
Yeah....I did the joke as well, James you legally have to admit if that got you. I just watched the last episode of Suggestible and it put this gem back into my mind hahahaha.

I think it needs to be considered that this ad was released weeks before the death of Michael Joseph Jackson. I'm not going to say it was directly responsible but I'm not prepared to rule it out.

This is peak things you missed, Mr Sunday was researching different regional guitar variants and premade gorilla assets and interviews with those involved in an ad that is itself a thing you missed if you're not Australian and the video had an important message. We can end the things missed genre now, it will never get any better than this.
And it's little surprise that Mr S was the one to take it to its most powerful final form and I for one salute him.

As an American of Greek heritage, I'm glad you didn't. Those look absolutely terrible. The ones we have here aren't that much better though. Better off following a family recipe or going to Greece for one. Those are probably made with a beef substitute, and the real ones are made with lamb
