The last action sequence is so beautiful. The scenery, the music, the damned revenge on the guy who killed your son
Honestly my favorite part of the whole movie. And it takes place near my hometown!! An epic scene
Como su amigo lo sigue sin dudar.
I love the double meaning of the title. The score has had a place on my computer since I first saw this in my first semester as a college English student back in the mid 2000s. One of the best ever.
Between the performance of the indigenous actors and the musical score, the emotional impact of this movie brings me to tears every time I re-watch.
Nobody talking about the musical score? Also, Duncan redeeming himself at the end by sacrificing himself is a great moment in cinema history IMO.
Yes, he was never evil, just unfortunately a typical "british soldier" who took the side of his superior officer instead of telling the truth. But he certainly redeemed himself in the end.
Great arc for Duncan. A tragic hero. And then the incredible decency of Hawkeye to put him out of his misery and end his pain. Chills...
rip Duncan
The last 9 minutes is the most epic moving piece of cinema history I've ever seen.
As a Native American guy, love this movie and its always make me cry. Got the main theme song always on Playlist 👍
It kind of glosses over the brutality of American Indians though, irl they were even worse, just read about when George Washington accidentally attacked a French envoy during the seven years war (you didn't attack envoys) and his native allies proceeded to split the man's head in two and scalp their heads and loot their bodies
@@the98themperoroftheholybri33. I don't agree..the natives were no more or less brutal ..there were the same types on both sides..and all in-between
Which tribe ?
Geronimo an American legend is good ..and Geronimo ( made for cable movies by TNT ) is well done
The entire end sequence with no dialogue, just music. So powerful!
This is a great movie. It is based on the novels by James Fenimore Cooper. It is the second in the list: 1. The Deerslayer (era - 1740-45), 2. Last of the Mohicans (era - 1757), 3. The Pathfinder (era - 1759) , 4. The Pioneers (era - 1793-94) and 5. The Prairie (era - 1805). It tells the story of the main character, called Hawkeye, in the film from his youth, around 17 or so in the first book until his death in his 80's in the last book. It is a very powerful story and you find out who the man is as you go along in each book. In total the whole series are called "The Leatherstocking Tales". I read it long ago as a child (in German) and again later as an adult (in the original English).
There is a lot to this film, including the amazing music, some of the scenes are incredible especially that one of the carriage crossing the bridge as you see its reflection in the water, very symbolic. The costumes are extremely accurate, based very much on historical records. The attitude of the English as portrayed by Duncan when he says to the general "But Sir isn't our motto, make the world England" is perfect, this is exactly how the English behaved wherever they went in their empire. The French were very different and tended to allow themselves to be absorbed within the cultures they met.
To provide a little further insight, Cooper partially modeled Hawkeye on Daniel Boone, and the capture and rescue of Alice and Cora is inspired by the real-life capture and subsequent rescue of Daniel Boone's daughter Rebecca and several of her friends.
The massacre of British soldiers and Mohawk allies following their surrender is also based on real events. In the movie, they are allowed to retain their arms and ammo, but in real life they were permitted to retain their firearms but no ammunition. The night before, all healthy British soldiers, Mohawk warriors, and camp followers were moved to French lines, and unfortunately the assorted French allied native warriors entered the fort and killed most of the sick/injured British left inside. The next morning, the British column was attacked as it began to retreat, with wildly varying reports from 69 killed all the way up to over 1000 being captured or killed. Even the lowest estimate is still a substantial amount. Unlike the movie, Montcalm likely did not encourage the massacre himself. On 14 August, Montcalm wrote letters to The Earl of Loudoun (commander of all British troops in North America) and Webb and apologized. He also apparently obtained the release of about 500 prisoners.
@@jasond1433 I was not aware that this was based on Daniel Boone's history (he took part in Braddock's defeat) but am familiar with the French and Indian war in the colonies as well as the fighting that took place in India at the same time during the Seven Years War. There was of course Braddock's massacre and the loss of Fort Duquesne. The novel got some things wrong or maybe mixed up. Native American tribes allied with the French included: some of the Abenaki, Ojibwa, Lenape,, Shawnee, Ottowa, some Huron while the British had most of the Iroquois as allies as well as Cherokee. Note that it is supposed that the fictional Mohicans may have been the Stockbridge Indians or their relations the Lenape. In the movie the Ottawa were mentioned which was correct. The various allies did change sides during the conflict so this was not easily sorted out.
IIRC, the novel doesn't portray the British nearly so villainously as the film; Fenimore Cooper was apparently quite an Anglophile, whereas the film's director decidedly wasn't. Been a long time since I read it, but I don't think the sub-plot about the British callously disregarding their duty to defend the frontiersmen - and the revolutionary mutterings this elicits - was in the book at all; the events of the film are a generation too early for the American war of independence.
Ah young people, they don't remember when movies were great.
The cliff scenes were filmed at Chimney Rock State Park in western North Carolina, just beside Lake Lure. Western NC and the Blue Ridge Mountains are absolutely beautiful country. I remember looking up at the cliffs and thinking, "Gee, it seems like I've seen those before." Then it hit me--Last of the Mohicans! Was last there in April 2022. Worth the visit!
I live about 10 or 12 miles from there. I love living in western North Carolina!
Yep!! Near my hometown. I've hiked the trail at the end.
One of the most romantic scenes of love for a Man to a Woman, is the I Will Find You scene. The music is amazing too
Absolutely agree
I live on land in the Hudson Valley which once was the site of a Mohican settlement. This film was shot in North Carolina, but it looks a lot like the Hudson River Valley, with mountains and forests running down to the banks of the river.
This should have won Best Score, Best Cinematography for sure, and possibly even Best Picture! It' just such an epic film! The last 10 minutes alone are incredible!
The blonde soldier ( Duncan ) sacrificed himself in place of the lady because he loved her, and he wanted to be an honorable and dignified man in the end. He was one of the heroes in the story.
IIRC, he doesn't die in the book.
@@tommcewan7936. Interesting..I never read the book.
the Little Sister (Alice) jumped off the Cliff after Magua Killed the 1st Man that she Ever Loved (Uncas)... in her innocence and the gentleness of Uncas they Truly fell in Love
One of my favorite movies and one of the most romantic movies in my opinion. The women are feminine but strong, the men are masculine in the best sense of the word. The music, the scenery, even the fighting sequences are just gorgeous.
When Ellie tears up and cries... It gives me hope for the world!!!
This is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Incredible film. Top tier acting, amazing cinematography, fantastic score, powerful love stroy, awesome battle scenes (the forest ambush is insane). Just has everything in all the right amounts.
The actor who played Magua, Wes Studi, served in the US Army in Viet Nam. He is a Cherokee Indian and a manly man.
Oh wow, this is gonna be awesome. This is one of my Top 10 films of all time. The last 20 minutes blew me away the first time I saw it.
I love this film, the playing, the photography and the musical score magnificent.
I’m so glad that Ellie picked up on the sweeping grandeur of the music in this film - it really does add a huge depth to the drama and tragedy of the storyline. And yes, I feel sure the cinematically beautiful, majestic landscapes were included as a stark contrast to the brutal nature (on all sides) of the Seven Years’ War - arguably the first global conflict of its kind.
I'm native. From this continent meaning both of my parents are
Native American or indigenous
This is one of my favorites. Also dances with wolves
Awesome cousin.. which tribe?

Being a complete chameleon, I'm sure that Ellie and Michelle don't recognize Daniel Day Lewis(good guy here) as the bad guy in Gangs of New York, and they wont recognize him in Lincoln if they ever see it.
You also need to follow the Wes Studi (Magua) movies. He is a Cherokee actor and has played in a lot of movies.
I live on the Eastern Cherokee reservation and I remember when I seen this as a child I cried 😢
Wes Stundi is probably one of the best actors of our time and made magua leap off the pages
Never a bad performance from him (even if the movie overall is poor)
Just to let you know, although the book and the movie is called the Last of the Mohicans, the Mohican tribe is still around, often spelled Mohegan now.
Humans figured out basic physics in large part so they could predict where cannon balls, bullets and other projectiles would hit. Practically, they knew from practice how much gun powder to load and what angle to make the cannons to gain a particular distance.
21:30 "No time for cuddles" 😂😂 CZcams Quote of the month!!
I remember watching this movie with my dad and brother when I was 4 and being so into it. After me and my brother played like we were Mohicans in the backyard lol
I used to live in the part of North Carolina where this movie was filmed... It really is that beautiful.
Excellent movie. The scenery is filmed so beautifully. The period uniforms and clothing are very accurate. It's a beautiful story portrayed by Excellent actors like Daniel Day Lewis and Madeline Stowe.
I don't like the movie. Too far from the novel.
I consider these 3 films to be really good companion pieces:
1. The Patriot - 2000 ( takes place 1776 Charleston, South Carolina )
2. Last of The Mohicans - 1992 ( takes place 1757 Upstate colonial New York )
3. The Mission - 1986 ( takes place 1750 Argentina/Paraguay Igauza Falls )
Please add The Mission to your watch list. Also bring tissues. 😢😅
The best movie soundtrack of any movie ever made. I still listen to it regularly.
This and Gladiator.
@@HollywoodMarine0351 Gladiator is good and so is Braveheart, but I still think this one is better. :)
There are two movies that have more beautiful music, although this one is also wonderful. Celtic music and Clannad. It must have been beautiful.
Conan The Barbarian ( 1982 ) soundtrack/score .. great orchestral
Those guns needed bullets AND powder. First you insert the bullet then the powder, then you had to compact the powder with the stick (that prevents the bullet from moving in the barrel).
In todays guns the powder is IN the bullet.
"Not to much and not to litte" Naru from prey
Native Americans fought on both sides of the French and Indian War. Somewhat ironically, a young George Washington was a leader in the first skirmish of this war, fighting alongside Native Americans against the French for the British. Decades later, Washington was the top general for the US in the war against Britain, and became the first president. The French and Indian War lasted for about six years, and it started a couple of years before the Seven Years' War in Europe, which some consider to be possibly the first world war, as the fighting was between numerous countries in numerous places. Part of the tragedy of this time was the friction between the Natives and the colonists, but in a way it was no more than the friction that normally occurred between the various Native tribes, and what occurred between the various European nations. What hurt the Native Americans most was exposure to Old World diseases, like the flu and smallpox.
“What are you looking at sir?”
”I'm looking at you miss.”
I would look at Mrs. Monroe also
I've ridden a motorcycle in the area where that movie was filmed. I actually pulled into the parking lot where the waterfall scene was shot, but the line of people was too long, so I left.
So correction for Michelle firearms related. The word you were looking for is cartridge not bullet as all firearms at that time used bullets. The bullet is the part that comes out of the firearm and does the damage. The combination of a bullet plus a brass container that holds the gun powder plus the primer is called a cartridge. This movie being based on 1757 time frame the flint lock was the primary arm at the time. It was almost at the time where the repeating rifle (cartridge fed weapons) were going to become popular but not quite there yet. So yeah other than a few unique variants of the flint lock most were one and done until a reload happened. Since I'm sure the British army wasn't supplying their troops with unique (AKA more expensive) shot variants a single shot flint lock is most likely what the British army had to work with.
When Ellie was making that hand/arm motion I am pretty sure she was referencing what you needed to do to reload a flint lock weapon not for switching to a blade and her movement being a stabbing motion. :)
As far as knowing where the shots are going to go they had crude aiming sights. Basically you put it where you think the shot is going to go and, with a term that is still used in the military today, "adjust fire" by changing the position or angle of the barrel and shooting again.
Those certain books that are required reading growing up going to School in America this is one of them
I live a few hours from where this was filmed. I've seen it all in person. Some of it is off-limits now due to safety, but I have my memories!
You ladies should watch a movie called "Little Big Man", it's a historical drama about a white man raised by an American Indian tribe.
I Loved this movie! I am Mohawk so it was a look into my culture in many ways. Thanks for sharing! KONORONKHW!
The film is about the Mohicans not Mohawks.
@craiggibbons8228 . Still.. close in ways
Cultures and traditions are very very close I know my tribes( its all good! Nia:wen)@@craiggibbons8228
I love how the period clothing that woodlands indianswore is shown in this film and also the hairstyles is correct
I always wished it had ended with him and her together. Sad yet happy ending at the same time.
Don't know if you've seen The Witcher series, but Alice, who jumped to her death, played Queen Calanthe, and again, jumps to her death.
😂😂😂 it's true, I cried for one and I didn't care about the other
That English Major was arrogant, but he was sure no coward.
I've been suggesting this to Magy bc she loves these kinds of movies. Recommend it to her if you guys get the chance.
My ❤️ is still broken from the death of his brother and then the sister jumps off too...😭
The last 25 minutes of this film is one of the most powerful you’ll see in cinema, ever
"No time for cuddles!" cracked me up.
The Movie Was Filmed in North Carolina
British Officer: "You call yourself a patriot? And a loyal subject to the Crown?"
Hawkeye: "I don't call myself subject to much at all."
What a wonderfully American response. 😁
Where this was filmed ...is where I live..it is beautiful...62 year old former marine from south carolina..
Those high cliff were filmed in North Carolina, and the forest scenes in up state New York. This book was written in 1826 by James Fenimore Cooper. This was true frontier life in the Americans. in the 1700's.
They film this movie close to where I live. Enjoy and have a nice evening ladies.💕
Arguably the greatest screen version of the novel.
"Dances with Wolves" Extended version.
That moment when the music starts toward the end...

18:33 If you look in the background when the English leave the fort, you can see a bunch of modern buses. That little glitch escaped everyone's notice until too late.
Always loved this movie, thanks ladies
On second thought, you guys should totally watch the movie ‘Wonder’. Ellie would love that one
One of my all time favourite films.
Love this movie, awesome score!
It's one of my favorite movies 😍 A masterpiece 🤩
This is a beautiful adaptation of a great novel. There is so much good literature that has been forgotten or overlooked by today's twenty-somethings-to- thirty-somethings that there is plenty of source material that could be adapted into fresh, compelling films that would draw audiences for box office success as well as reintroducing the public to great classic stories instead of beating dead horses with increasingly stale sequels and remakes.
I live where that was filmed. I remember seeing all of it
31:54 well its nice to know someone out there would rather be with me than jump off a cliff. LOL
This was filmed in the mountains of my beautiful state of North Carolina. Great story, acting, setting and movie. The music was magnificent. Thanks y'all!
Apparently they filmed it there because it resembled what New York state *used* to look like back then and doesn't anymore. Seeing those forests makes me want to get lost in them, or live in a secluded cabin amongst the trees.
@@jpaulc441 Both are very beautiful locations. Would love to cabin in either...especially this time of year.
If you love this, then watch the extended version of Dances with Wolves.
It is a masterpiece!
I agree completely! "Dunbar...not dumb bear. Not dumb bear."
Everbody is crying at the last 10 Minutes
The horses is a great point. Even in WW2 lots of horses died. It’s very sad.
Fort William Henry is in Lake George, NY. If you ever plan a visit I’d be happy to show you around. I did many ghost hunts there as well
5:00 It was always gunpower and bullets, still to this day. However, the guns were not as accurate as ours today. Even today, people get ideas from movies. A handgun is maybe accurate at 30 meters. That is why people survive crazy gunfights. 1. most people are bad at aiming. 2. Hitting a moving target is really hard 3. Inaccuracy and bullet drop
But yes they had one shot, then clean, cotton and bullet and gunpower in the other end.
its hard to believe that professional soldiers could be taken out so easily they appear to lack any tactical nous in the ambush
One of the greatest movie endings of all time
Such a awesome reaction and great movie! You should watch Simon Birch Another great movie!
3:00 It is two different men of honor who meet. Two worlds collide
It was so interesting to see your reaction of this movie.
By the way, did you notice it ladies? In 21:00, the Indian warrior who tried to harm Alice and Cora... I couldn't even notice it when I saw this movie first time(1994), but some years later I could see that the face of him is not of Indians, but the typical face of the white man, lol
29:54 They also had a "romantic" scene that was cut, which really does the film a disservice. Most people don't understand his commitment to her.
Loooove this film. My no.1!
12:35 This the kind of discussion that started the idea of America
Daniel Day-Lewis was one of the last cast for Aragorn in the Lord of the rings, he rejected the role .... but god he could've been an amazing king of gondor
this movie was great in his time, the music, the scenery, photography, the cast and performance 10/10 instant classic
29:00 Duncan redeemed himself. One of few films were an antagonist becomes a hero.
2:45 Yes good eye. At this time European soldiers were trained to fight on the continent, ie Europe against other Europeans, not against Native American war parties in the "New World". Magua knows this and uses their static formation/discipline against them.
18:56 when Ellie got scared and Michelle got turned on. 😎
Great film.
Acting and soundtrack!
Thanks 👍
If you notice he didn't have any amo in the gun he was bluffing 😊
Superb film and the ending is epic
In those times almost every nation in Europe was grasping lands in America. Even russia had alaska. But overtime the British, spanish and French were the powerful ones.
It's a decent enough movie, but I really dislike how much of the book they changed. In particular, the relationship between Duncan and Hawkeye, and the final battle which was supposed to be a huge battle between the tribes.
The main theme music for this movie is called “The Gael”. It was composed by Scottish folk singer Dougie Maclean.
