    Oh yeah, this was a long time coming.
    Commissioner here, and you guys are in for a treat.
    I want to start by thanking Aaron for this. You guys will understand pretty quickly just how much time and effort this must've taken. That being said, please pin this comment Therewolf. Pretty please?
    So let's get some questions out of the way:
    - First of all, the title. Why "A High Price"? It's a reference to the merchant from RE4, and the bounty on Wick's head as well as the cost of his actions throughout the movies.
    - As for why I chose this matchup, it should be obvious for anyone who has played or has watched gameplay of RE4. Leon gets compared to John Wick so much that it's not hard to find a video of him modded to have Keanu Reeves's face. I've even heard some people say he was John Wick before John Wick was a thing. While these two do have some similarities, this is less of a "These two have so much in common!" matchup and more of a "Who wouldn't want to see these two fight?" matchup, similar to Link VS Cloud. Plus, JW4 and the RE4 remake released on the same day. That's a tinfoil hat coincidence.
    - As for the length and style, it's longer than you'd expect and the tone and style of music shifts throughout. That's because I wanted to go the extra mile to make it feel like it's meant to accompany a major fight scene. Good fight scenes are dynamic, so this track is too. I even gave Therewolf a "sequence of events" list that I imagined this track playing to.
    - Finally, anyone who has heard "Resident Rising" will notice the references to it, especially the piano. I am officially dubbing that the "RE Hero Leitmotif". Like how Yates made one for the Uchihas from Naruto, moving forward I want to hear those notes used in all pieces involving Leon, Chris, Jill, Ada, and so on. And I know any fellow Resident Evil fans in the Death Battle community would agree. Come on, you know you want it.
    Once again Aaron, thank you so much for this. I'm posting this before the premiere, and I'm very excited to see the live comment thread when it airs.
    Fun fact, this was posted on my sister's birthday.

    Ah yes the ultimate embodiement of "they are just really fucking cool".
    Knew this one would be coming eventually so pretty excited for how this will sound like.The art is pretty sick too
    So edit after actually listening to it,that's freacking amazing and it being so long helps a lot it mixes the special agent/assassin Vibe with RE's tense horror action and wicks soundtrack so well thorought.Really gives the idea as it gets tenser and tenser that they are all out of options and that the last stretch is just a full on knife/hand to hand clash as they literally have nothing left anymore which is probably helped by the feel of ticking clock all along as it leads to the inevitable. Also love how righteous it sounds at times Leon despite becoming more and more jaded is still pretty clearly the good guy in all the scenario he his in and while Wick is a lot more grey he isn't a bad person at heart and from his point of view he fights for just as good of a cause.
    Like them both a lot but Wick is facing another James Bond wannabe and it's not gonna end well for him he may be similar in skill but Leon is pretty clearly a whole lot more superhuman than him and definitely did feats or took hits way out of John's caliber and while both of their resume is impressive what Leon deals with in terms of foes and situations is pretty undoubtebly far more dangerous than what Wick faces down.

    The title makes me wonder if John has been sent to assassinate Leon, and Leon makes the world of assassins in the John Wick series pay for it. Not unlike John himself before his death.

      I'd also argue John has the larger combat arsenal. He knows more martial arts and can turn a lot more things around him into weapons than Leon can. Strength and durability overall can be debated but I think it's close in the end. At long range I'd argue Leon but up close I'd easily give John the edge.

    • @chapellegillian9426
      @chapellegillian9426 Před měsícem +1

      Leon definitely has more weapons to work with,they both have the standard arsenal of action Heroes but Wick doesn't really have anti material rifle,rocket launchers,grenade launchers with acid rounds,multiple type of grenades including flashbangs or even a mine thrower and a flamethrower Leon's arsenal is more expansive overall.
      Unless Wick has similar feats to Leon suplexing someone so hard their head explode,Moving multiple tons boulder or fighting actual superhumans who Can shattering renforced concrete and metal and that's just the start i dont see how a close range battle would go well for John, Leon is just on another level physically.
      Also well he's obviously faster one dodges bullets the other not really

    Oh, this matchup is sick as hell. That being said, I give it to Leon high diff.
    John might be better with a gun, but Leon has a better arsenal, defeated greater foes, is likely just as durable if not more so and if Leon can close the gap should be able to overpower Wick. Neither opponent is walking out of this unscathed.

    • @masedaace5473

      Leon’s lifting strength is higher but in terms of most physicals they are somewhat similar, with Wick having better stamina and skill while Leon has better Agility/Speed and a FAR greater arsenal.

      @socialaccount0000 Před měsícem +5

      @@weskintime4177Agreed. If it comes down to a grapple/fistfight or knives, Leon is winning. If John can keep his distance I imagine he can eventually wear Leon down or secure a headshot. Though, I doubt Leon would allow that

    John Wick makes everything happen. He's a very powerful strategist that had taken down seemingly inhuman amounts of adversaries at a time. He's in his world, what we'd call a one man army. He's got a lot of strategies in his repertoire. Leon is also smart. And on top of that, he's strong. He can lift heavy machinery with just his arm and shoulder. He's had VERY interesting plot driven physical strength, despite how mortal he too is. John Wick might get a scuffed nose, but he could edge this one out. If he avoids being totally exploded.

    Leon Kennedy VS John Wick is certainly a funky matchup but one that does seem very cool to watch animated.
    While I don't think the matchup is the greatest ever, as said above it has potential to be fun. Visually, of course but no doubt musically too. So I was really curious as to how this one would turn out, especially with its extended duration.
    And in the end ? It does some thing really well, some others a bit less so, but in general it's definitely a solid song befitting both characters and franchises. It manages to mix John Wick's signature high energy club music with RE's more chaotic and sombre OST in a way that sounds fluid and dynamic enough to be interesting.
    Also, I can't not mention the various references to Resident Rising strewn throughout the track. While I know it's not the most popular track out there, I personally like it a lot for the highs it has. And seeing those same highs referenced here is quite appreciable as it definitely adds to the song in a good way.
    However it does bring me to speak about the couple things I like less about the song. And the main thing, which by extension affects the others, is the lack of very memorable unique melodies in the track. Aside from those Resident Rising segments, the track has very little in terms of unique and catchy melodies that make it stand out. This, combined with the pretty long duration of the song, results in it feeling a bit redundant at times and somewhat unmemorable .
    Especially when the few actually catchy unique melodies are directly taken off of Resident Rising, resulting in the song feeling like a sort of "extension" of the aforementioned instead of its own unique thing at times. Now as said before I do like Resident Rising's highs so I don't mind too much seeing them here as I'm someone that loves references in tracks, even ones that aren't done the best. But I cannot ignore the fact that as far as referencing goes, this certainly isn't Therewolf's best work because it does exactly what references *shouldn't* do; AKA making the song feel like it's not its own thing but instead a repertoire of references to the song it uses material from without its own identity.
    Now I'll be honest, in of itself this *is* a pretty big issue for the song, I can't deny this. But don't let this make you think that it means I dislike the song outright because that'd be wrong. I still very well enjoy it. As said earlier it manages to very fluidly mix RE and John Wick's OSTs in a way that does feel natural and actually crossover-like, giving personality to the song even if it lacks identity. I won't go over the track chronologically but the way it's done with various breaks and long buildups results in a progression that's quite imaginable. I mean, this is certainly helped by the fact that both characters' ability-sets are really straightforward but it doesn't remove from the song's good writing as far as this goes: you can easily picture yourself what each movement of the song would represent as far as the fight goes.
    And even if I did say earlier that there weren't a lot of memorable parts of the song, the one part of the track that does really standout to me for the song would be the buildup starting at 4:58. You may think "but why would the buildup be the memorable part instead of the breakdown ?" Well that's quite simple: because the buildup is unique, the breakdown starting at 6:24 for the finale of the song isn't because it's a rehash of Resident Rising's own. And yes, it's certainly a really freaking good finale (especially the conclusion at 6:52 and beyond), but the buildup being the actually unique part that perfectly mixes both worlds and sounds damn well like both characters preparing their arsenal on their own before one final clash feels like the absolutely perfect way to go about bringing this finale. It lasts long but I think that helps increase the tension a lot which is a very good thing especially with how good in general it sounds. Honestly it's good enough that it manages to make the already great-sounding finale feel a bit underwhelming which is saying a lot (probably due to the lack of short "calm before the storm" pause between the buildup and the start of the breakdown). Honestly if the rest of the song followed suit fully with that buildup it would be close to perfection methinks.
    Overall this track is not one without issue, I'll be honest. Of course all of it is purely subjective so if someone else finds no problem where I did then they're perfectly in their right to do so. But to me it does fall a bit short of the sheer potential such a matchup has musically-speaking. Is it because of the duration of the track that pressured Therewolf into filling in gaps with what he could ? Is it the commissioner being too insistant on references ? Is it something else entirely ? Doesn't matter to me, at the end of the day it's not the end of the world even if it does lower the song's quality because the track still manages to be extremely appreciable and even if I may seem very negative about it, it genuinely is a song that I've heavily appreciated making a review for (in fact, I listened to this song for pretty much 3 hours in a row on loop before even writing this as I was doing something at the same time. Shows that it's a good track if I was willing to do this) and that'll no doubt please most people as far as sheer quality goes, because it definitely matches most standards nicely. Amazing job with this as always.
