do our college name and high school GPA matter if you want to get into ivy if you have a high GPA in college and a good GMAT?

    Hi I'm from Southeast asia
    Just wanna to ask.
Do you think someone who came from IB background, top IB in Southeast asia (not wall street bank) + top regional PE firm +strong leadership n extracurricular will have a good shot at M7 schools..or there's clear disadvantage compare to someone who works in top BB bank in USA?

Getting a serious silver spoon in mouth vibe here, so I did some research and his father served in the house of representatives. Surprised Sandy and John didn't comment on EC involvement either. Does it just not matter if you hit a 770/4.0? There's just nothing compelling about his background that says "Will give back" and his father was a republican, which doesn't scream happy adcom. Felt like John/Sandy kinda dropped the ball on digging into this one. Wish I could have heard him say how he went from legislative intern to working at beavertail (as a caterer and not an intern, if you google for, "college-student-works-for-senator-travels-world" written by a writer who also writes about his father...)
Don't get soft on us Sandy

I don’t think EC involvement really matters for his profile. He’s got fantastic stats, he’s got great work experience and his family has connections. He’s a safe bet and he has everything to be successful. I honestly think that’s enough for him to get into a top 3 school.

Hey, Sebastian, thanks for taking up for me here. Just to clear things up a bit, my family has no connections. My father was elected to the state house of Representatives 3 years after I interned in Washington and died a few weeks after being sworn into his first and only term. Again, thanks for your kind words.

Tristan Bagala Thanks for the clarification and I stand corrected! My mistake for assuming. Best of luck on your process and congrats on all the accomplishments.

Sebastian thank you! I appreciate you assuming the best and being kind in the CZcams comments- not something that’s all that common!

Dan- you should give credit where credit is due- also you don't know his family's life story or how much they helped him. Unfortunately his dad passed away. In my opinion it's pretty rude to bring his Dad into it saying "oh he was a republican". If any admission committee is that narrow minded about someone who is no longer alive he would be better off not going to that school
