- Denver and Rio Grande Western, #168, has just been overhauled after sitting cold since 1938. This locomotive previously made several short test runs solo, but this was a much longer test run and with a few freight cars. This is one of the newest restored locomotives in America as well as one of the oldest. It was built in 1883 by the Baldwin locomotive works. This locomotive will be running public excursions on the Cumbres and Toltec railroad in the future. Filmed October 9th, 2019.
168 was build in 1883 by The Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. This Narrow Gauge Ten Wheeler is been 100 years old in 1983.
Beautiful scene. Love the golden hour shadows. Thanks for sharing
A great locomotive and a class video from the ride.
I'm not sure how many more classmates of 168 survive (besides 169 and 278?)
Nice catch, could fall asleep listening to that. Thanks.
Some nice filmography in this and excellent sound.
Congratulations Marvin and Crew. You completed that project.
Thanks for sharing this video!!! My favorite NG steamer since I bought a WMC HOn3 model of her 45 years ago!
Really enjoyed that, great video. I'm in love with 168.
Very nice video, really appreciated the effort. And what an awesome loco too!
Good to see the ol' girl work for the first time proper!
Love trains 🚂
Excellent video!
Beautiful!
Up next two is d&rgw 223 and 493!
Awesome. Squeaky whistle.
It's chasing after the General.
Looks so odd to see the drive rods running backwards. But one of the advantages of steamers is they can run backwards just as easily as forwards.
Making America Great Again!
Daniel Ramsey Incorrect Conclusion. America was always Great. Even as it dipped a bit as a result of the DT.
Gidney: Yes it is.
Love it.
The best that Colorado has
Hey boss, I got an incredibly cheap deal on a used Loco for our short line delivery service.
So cool.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
A wayback time machine!
I once rode a trip in crummy 0503, it was out of service for years. So good to see it as well as 168.
Pretty Lady!
What's the wheel arrangement , is it like 4-4-2 or 4-6-0?
4-6-0 no trailing wheels 6 drivers
Oh okay
Why's it going backwards?
John Henry That tiny thing most likely can’t make the trip right now to get to the Y without a water car hooked to it, or by having the water tank at Lava restored.
So they take it out and just have to back up the engine for about 6-8 miles lol
D&RGW....
It should do more than attract tourists, it should do real work on a regular basis. Believe me when I say, " cars have been doing much more harm to the environment than steam engines".
Is this the same locomotive that sat in Antlers Park in Colorado Springs???
It sure is!
@@travelingtom923 Love seeing the old gal up and running. I used to play on it when I was little. Fond memories!!!!
