  • Denver and Rio Grande Western, #168, has just been overhauled after sitting cold since 1938. This locomotive previously made several short test runs solo, but this was a much longer test run and with a few freight cars. This is one of the newest restored locomotives in America as well as one of the oldest. It was built in 1883 by the Baldwin locomotive works. This locomotive will be running public excursions on the Cumbres and Toltec railroad in the future. Filmed October 9th, 2019.

Looks so odd to see the drive rods running backwards. But one of the advantages of steamers is they can run backwards just as easily as forwards.

    • @antikillz1187

John Henry That tiny thing most likely can’t make the trip right now to get to the Y without a water car hooked to it, or by having the water tank at Lava restored.
So they take it out and just have to back up the engine for about 6-8 miles lol

It should do more than attract tourists, it should do real work on a regular basis. Believe me when I say, " cars have been doing much more harm to the environment than steam engines".
