I do jolly ranchers on the two middle trays only. They never fail. NO warming needed.
That’s awesome I’ll try keeping in middle rows
LOVE THE CHANNEL!!!
🥰🥰Thanks for watching!!!
My grandkids love the freeze dryer candy. So Fun😀
They’re lucky to be my taste testers 🥰
The fruit roll ups are awesome!
So good!
Fruit roll ups are my favorite too!
They turn out so good!!
Just got my medium freeze dryer delivered today. I got it moved into place and all ready. The 24 hour wait has got me anxious and impatient. After the bread run I think I’ll do candy. It seems really easy and fast to do.
Oh yay!! So exciting. The wait is hard, but hoping it all goes smoothly!!! Candy is a great thing to start off with - yields fast rewards 👏👏👏
Need to try all of these
Yes I wish I could share with everyone!
I don’t have my freeze dryer yet but enjoy leaning from you.
I’m glad! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video. I freeze-dried skittles for the first time yesterday and they turned out absolutely huge. I’m going to follow your settings exactly today and hopefully they won’t be so big. Yours look great. Im also very excited to try the roll ups !!!! Thats something I didnt even think of doing
The fruit roll ups are sooo good! And wow yeah my skittles never get super big but I wish I could see your huge ones!
The bigger the better I think as far as selling them! They would definitely stand out compared to what everyone else's look like. I'd love to see them 🤤
Definately should get a family pet!
Haha maybe one day 😅
Remove the silicone trays on jolly ranchers. I don’t use any silicone and not even parchment paper and they turn out like perfect round jewels.
Thank you!! I’ll try it
Hello! I’m learning a lot from your videos, although I’m wondering if you put oxygen absorbers in your candy bags? Which oxygen absorbers do you buy because there are so many different ones? Thank you!!
Thanks for watching! So I don’t use any oxygen absorbers in candy bags, I have heard they can actually ruin candy over time. So I just heat seal the candy in Mylar bags and they stay fresh up to 6 months 🥰
If you have access to sams, skittles are 9.98 for the 54 oz plastic jar. Costco in AZ 11.49. WINCO 11.99.
Man I wish we had Sam’s here! I’m in Anchorage, we only have Costco 😏 no winco either. we are getting a Costco Business Center soon and I’m crossing my fingers they start carrying the skittles! Thanks for letting me know about those though!! I’m glad they still have them other places.
@DIYfreezedry maybe when friends come to visit from AZ, they can pick up product at Sam's and bring with them.
Our kitty cat is the lowest maintenance being in the house! 😂 and by the way, if you would love on your own kitty that would make them sweet ❤
How sweet yes you’re making me consider it maaaaybe in the future. Haha they are so cute!
@@DIYfreezedry oh and as a bonus, if you let your kitty go in and out, you won't even need to have a litter box!! I have had many cats but this one right now is the only one that has been 98% indoor. She has a big beautiful cat tree and can get in every window but she does need a box. She's a little spoiled. She goes out at night sometimes on the tiny back porch but is afraid of everything. LOL they all have different personalities. 😂
I cant wait to get my freeze dryer and go nuts making freeze dried candy because my kids and I are obsessed especially with the charleston chews and Skittles. I cant wait to try other candies freeze dried. Sam's Club sells the 54oz Skittles you showed in the video, hopefully you will get a Sam's near you because its only $9.98. When I get my freeze dryer Sam's club will get rich off me with the amount of goodies I will be freeze drying lol I really enjoy your videos. I recently found your videos and just subscribed.
Thanks so much for subscribing and following along! I’m excited for you your kids are gonna love it!!! Haha mine are so excited when we try new candies. Yes I hope we get a Sam’s club, I guess they used to be in Alaska but left years ago :/ I want it back
Weird - I have never had a Snake Skittle but have had several Snake Starburst. By the way, I stopped unwrapping my Regular Size Starburst & just Freeze Dry them in the Wrapper. They turn out Great & saves so much work & time. As far as your Jolly Ranchers go, try using Parchment Paper instead of the silicone mats. I stopped using Silicone Mats on all my Candy & use Parchment paper & I do Jolly Ranchers at 145 Degrees. I have never had any issues like you did with yours as mine always turn out fine. On the Ranchers, I do let the Warm Tray Cycle go to 145 Degrees 2 to 3 times prior to starting the Vacuum turning on. If you keep a watch, you will see when your Freeze Dryer gets up to the temp you set, it will drop back down then go back to your set temp then go back down. After the 2nd or 3rd time it goes to my set temp (which is most always 145 degrees), I then drop my warm tray time to get my FD to start the Process where the Vacuum kicks in. Try this & see if it helps your Jolly's. Funny, I see another commenter said remove your Silicone mats & go with Parchment Paper - LOL! So since you wanna do Chocolate Candy next, I would suggest, Twix & Charleston Chews. I have also done Jr. Mints, York Peppermint Patties, Milky Ways & Snickers. All of them will Freeze Dry. I liked the Twix & the Charleston Chews the best. I liked the Snickers the Least. I don't like Twix yet I love Snickers. Freeze Drying Changes things - LOL!
Thanks sooo much for all of that advice!!! Definitely will try the parchment paper - I hope that does the trick. I’m totally going to try the Starburst with the wrapper on, will save so much hassle haha!
And I love all of the chocolate ideas 🍫
@@DIYfreezedry Also 3 Musketeers work as well. Twix & Snickers will get big, so cut them down. I usually cut the Mini Charleston Chew pieces in Half.
@@harleyrenegade8035 I didn’t think about 3 musketeers that sounds awesome! Thx !
what size bags did you purchase from Amazon for the skittles? Could you attach the link please? Thank you.
No problem! I like these bags, I use the 4.5 x 7.5in size and it fits 4oz of skittles nicely
School starts at 9 and 10am 😮 ours start at 7:20am
When we lived in Arizona we started at 7:25 too!! It was early. But also nice to be done with the school day by 2:30. Do you like the early start time?
Skittles in 45 min. Use the Function Test mode. Run heater and vacuum only.
DO YOU have troble with your vacuum pump oil going dirty after a batch of skittles?
Did the fruit roll up get chewy after u was eating them ?
I have a terrible time with jolly ranchers too.
I’m not sure why - but tropical flavored jolly ranchers worked great the next time I tried and lined my tray with parchment
Get you some rubber gloves. They are much easier and quieter to work with. Love your channel
That would be much better! I’ll get me some of those. Thanks for watching
How does one purchase your candies?
Remove the silicone mats and replace with parchment.
Ok I will try that next time ! Thanks!
The jolly rancher needs to get hotter before the process begins. The bears also need to get a little hotter for a longer period of time. My JRs pop really big
Ok 👍🏻 thanks for the tips !! I’ll try that out
What was the ending time?
Sams club still sells those skittles and you can order online. They are 9.98.
Oh amazing! I wish we had Sam’s club in Alaska 😏 and they won’t ship here. but we did just have a Costco business center open last month and they have the skittle containers 🤩
What time you waiting for packaging, is it mediately?
Yes, I package them up as soon as possible after removing from the freeze dryer
What size mylar bags do you use?
I use the 4.5in x 7.5 in size
I run mine for 5 hours and after 20 mins I swich my pans to different places and hit start new batch
What size candy bags do you use?
I use the 4.7 x 7.5 in bags
Jolly Ranchers 150 degrees no tray warm for 8-10 hours. Really depends on area with humidity and home as well. Think there have been some ingredient changes in candies. I know Nerds are not working as normal for me either.
Yes, I wonder if it’s an ingredient problem - that’s a good point! I will try it on that longer cycle too with no warming and see if that helps.
Let me know how they turn out! I do 6 wide by 13 deep or 78 to tray and they work great
Do u cut in half and if so how?
Put the nutritional information on your bags and if so, where do you get those at?
You can get the nutritional info from the candy bags itself that you use, then you’d have to create your own label. If I was selling at a market or something like that I think you’re required to list the ingredients. And always also state that it was not prepared in a commercial kitchen according to cottage food laws. (These vary state to state)
Bags for the candy, where?
What size bags do you use
These are the 4.75in x 7.8in size (something like that)
I warm my for 10 minutes and try cutting them in thrids
Awesome thanks I’ll try that!
Where do you order your labels from
I ordered my sticker labels from Vista print online 👍🏻
Sams has the Skittles in 54 oz
Yes I have heard that!! We don’t have Sam’s club in Alaska 😖 but we just got a Costco business center and they carry the tubs now!
Im in Alaska too. Wasilla. You? I do candy too.
Oh awesome you’re close to us! We’re in Eagle River - but we come to Wasilla often for my kids gymnastics 😄
Do you have a website to buy your candy ?
Not right now :/ I hope to in the future but have to have a commercial space in order to sell my candy online which I don’t have yet. It’s a bummer!
Do you put in a oxygen absorber for candy
I don't, they will last 4-6 months heat sealed in mylar bags. Any longer than that they can get stale.
I’m wondering the the mats, because they are silicone, are acting as an insulator? Maybe try just the try or parchment?
Another viewer gave me the same idea so I’m definitely going to try the parchment and report back! Thanks for sharing
$2000 plus for the machine is out of my price range.
They are a big investment- I wish there was a more affordable way to freeze dry food at home. I do the candy to help offset the cost, but the initial purchase is hard. And will take a lot of candy sales to make up the cost 😅
Make your own sour skittles with citric acid and sugar. It's way cheaper than buying sour skittles since they're extremely expensive.
I just tried making my own in one of my more recent videos! They were super good. Kind of stuck together bad, but I think next time I’ll do less liquid and powder down in a food processer my citric acid / sugar combo
@@DIYfreezedry , let them dry out before putting in the freeze dryer. It will help with that. You can mix them up a bit to make sure they don’t stick. It’s all trial and error. ❤️😊
Eggs, ice cream....
That sounds much better than the real answer 😳
On my Jolly Racher for 5 hours
My Sam's Club sells them for $9.89, 6 to case.
I miss Sam’s Club! I guess Alaska used to have them but they left the state a few years ago 😣
Why do all the guides say to run candy 16-20 hrs?
I think that’s if you don’t have candy mode on your machine - but some candy may need long like people have said certain gummies need 12 hours… things that freeze dry easily like skittles, high chews, caramels…. I just do candy mode for 4 hours and it works great
Sam’s club has the big plastic container now for 9.98 free shipping for plus members
I need to look into seeing if they will ship to Alaska - we don’t have Sam’s club here anymore. But if they ship here that would be a great option!
Chili & Ice Cream?
That sounds much better than what the actual answer was 😆
