    you are probably the best local rider in your area,, very impressive,,, the record for an efoil is just about the same as a wing foil

      Hi Steve. I'm definitely not the best rider in my area. Jose Pinyana wing foils at the same spot here and he was Spanish wing foil champion. :-) I actually like having really good people around to learn from!

    Gratuliere! I admire your participation and overall you left behind quite some other wingfoilers. Regarding your remark about the stabilizer. Ofcourse a smaller stab can give more speed. But I think it is more important what you feel in your legs. Especially on longer streches you want to have the same load in both legs. For example: If the position of the mast is already maxed out to the front and you still feel too much back foot pressure, than the stab gives too little downforce and should be bigger or thicker or shimmed at a bigger angle.

    • @windaddict
      @windaddict  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you! Much appreciated! I had the mast all the way in the back actually because I felt this was the only way to get more control.

    • @watercrazylion
      @watercrazylion Před 2 měsíci

      @@windaddict I think you did right. The stab you used is indeed relatively big compared to your frontwing.

  • @fabioloretti

    50km/h average speed is ridiculously fast. I would have to do some serious gear upgrades.

    • @windaddict
      @windaddict  Před 2 měsíci

      It's actually 57 km/h for the top guys. But you can get a top-150 placement with average speed of 40 km/h which is a lot more doable. I will do a video about gear, stay tuned!

    • @watercrazylion

      I read that the winner had the Ozone Fusion double wing. I also saw that in the top 15 there are 3 Gong team riders who use the Aramid UPE wings. I don't know if they took the Pulse Double Ply or not. I would have :-)

    • @windaddict
      @windaddict  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, Mathis Ghio (the winner) used the Ozone Fusion wing. He just signed with Ozone. The best Gong rider was Julien Rattotti I think and on his Instagram you can see that he used the Pulse DP (the double profile). These wings make a lot of sense for high-speed long-distance racing. However in the normal short GWA races the Gong riders seem to use Droid Aramid wings. I asked a Gong advisor about this and he said "on small distances the DROID UPE is more efficient and also better in gusty conditions"

  • @watercrazylion
    @watercrazylion Před 2 měsíci +1

    Regarding your remark about ventilation due to mast thickness. Your HM86 mast has a thickness of 17mm. That is the same thickness as the normal carbon V2 Gong mast. Me and my 3 homies all have Gong alu masts V2 which were also made 17mm thick to be more stiff than the shaky V1's. We have never experienced ventilation of the mast. Is it possible that your frontwing initiated the ventilation, which crept up the mast so that you get the idea from topview that only the mast ventilated? The mast angle of attack is small so it will not stall or ventilate quickly, except in a quick turn.

    • @windaddict
      @windaddict  Před 2 měsíci +1

      My HM86 mast has a thickness of 17mm at the bottom but 20mm towards the top. The normal carbon mast in the "racing size" of 100cm is 17mm top and bottom. So it may be slightly faster but mostly the same. The best racing mast is the new HM107 and that one is 13mm throughout. That's a big difference. I talked to a Gong advisor and he said "yes excatly the HM86 is too thick...too big stab + too thick mast = ventilation = crashes !". Of course I don't know if maybe the front wing played a role too. But I feel you would see that on the footage. And it's an Ypra-S which is made for high speeds. Yeah it's too big to go really fast, but with my modest top speed of 32 km/h I just doubt it would ventilate. So I can only really blame the mast and stab. And I had many weird crashed because of this. I guess the only way to find out is to try reach higher speeds with more adapted gear for racing and see if the problem disappears.

    • @watercrazylion
      @watercrazylion Před 2 měsíci

      @@windaddict With your speed which is about the same speed as ours, ventilation is hardly possible. My buddy also has a relatively fast Gong Fluid M-H frontwing of 1000cm2 and he never ventilated anything. His topspeed is 35kmu. Did you ever ventilate with your mast and your Fluid H? What I meant was that I think that you were too high in the water without noticing, so that your front wing ventilated or breached.

    • @windaddict
      @windaddict  Před 2 měsíci +1

      No, I don't recall ventilating with my mast and the Fluid H. But I never really pushed speed or kept high speed for a long time. At Defi Wing it happened more often at certain parts of the course. Maybe currents were strange there. First I thought it was seaweed but other riders didn't seem to have problems with that. It was definitely not me being up too high or breaching. I know when I am too high. You can see on the video the weird splash that is produced before the fall. If that's not ventilation, then I have no clue what it is. Sometimes I felt the board was rotating towards the windward side and I had to put counter pressure with my back foot to avoid crashing. Again my assumption was that this was due to ventilation.

    • @watercrazylion
      @watercrazylion Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@windaddictI agree it LOOKS like mast ventilation seen from above. And it would explain the turning motion. But it doesn't explain the sudden loose of lift. Or the air would have been sucked down to the frontwing. I am familiar with weed, when it slings around the mast or the wing, the flow is disturbed suddenly. This can be an explanation, because you had it more in certain parts of the course. But it does not explain why other did not seem to be hindered by it. (but you do not have a rearview mirror :-) Btw I hardly notice when I am too high above the water, only after I crash I realised I was too high...... Interesting topic!
