I was doing it wrong for a little while, then I got taught how to properly throw it like a ballerina, had it down after 10 tries on a 4ft cast net. Perfect twirling circle. When a true fisherman say's you're doing it wrong, I listen.. Will be catching up on your adventures. This was fun to watch. Sorry, I was late to the party but I'm here now.

Just found this channel. Appreciate your passion. I just recently started net fishing after spending an entire day surf fishing down at the beach in SC and coming up empty....meanwhile a guy about 100 yds away went out beyond the break with his net and caught 3 sizeable cobia in less than an hour. Went home and ordered a net that evening lol.

Word of advice. When you throw so close to the current, the net washes over itself and closes. Second, when you throw you need to give it time to sink. The majority of the fish are deeper then your going.

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  Před 3 lety +15

I let it sink completely to the bottom in some spots, not in others due to the snags in here. Every environment dictates something a little different, there's not one thing that always applies in every spot.

OK so here's another side of it, there's a very popular crappie fishing spot at a lake near my house, I went there one day to pick up some bait for my catfishing needs, there was lots of guys fishing for crappie and everyone could see crappie busting the water, but nobody was catching anything, after I threw my casting net for the very 1st time we all understood why! It was loaded down so heavy with shad I could barely pull it up on the dock, I had enough shad with one throw for all of my needs for the day, and enough to freeze a few for future fishing trips, and several other fishermen come up and ask if they could have some for their catfishing needs also, but what it told us was the reason why the crappie weren't biting is because they all had their stomachs full of shad. Throwing a casting net can tell you things about the ecosystem you are fishing that rod and real fishing could never tell you! Remember we only kept what was going to be used for bait everything else got released.

I'm on Google maps for about three hours a day, I study the water around Houston pretty obsessively. A lot of it is trial and error (lots of trips don't make it to film) but I'm always looking for certain features: spillways, pools forming eddies, slow moving creeks or channels with steep banks, confluences, etc. And I also always think from the film perspective, "what species can I catch there?" "what are the odds I can catch a minimum of at least three good fish?" "what will the scenery in frame look like?" "what will the thumbnail look like?" and "what can I possibly title it based on what might happen?"
I know the film stuff doesn't apply to everyone but it's part of how I personally decide on a spot.

What Part of the country do you fish?
For instance, I fish Southeast and East Texas.
    Cool Video.

@@jakesmerth1919 I considered becoming a Game Warden when I got out of the Service… For about a day or maybe a day and a half…
I’ve been shot at enough in my lifetime… Decided I didn’t need a Profession in which I might be Shot At more.
So Not A Member of Any Law Enforcement… Though I will call “Operation Game Thief” if I see someone Poaching… And then sit back with a Cold Beer and watch the Fun Ensue.

try putting the cast net wrist band on the same hand that you use to hold the net thats really the reason you are not getting consistent full circle cast.

When I cast net I don’t keep everything I catch. Really did a trip where I caught over 100 fish in a cast net and I only kept one big shad.

Where do you live that you are allowed to keep bluegill out of a castnet?

I agree about carp. We just do not know how to handle them. I will and have carp fished.

My first net just arrived last week and it's 18 feet. It's hard lol

18 feet....?throw it from high up like a pier or something...you will never get it open throwing from the bank or a boat. If you hit a big school you may need help pulling it in.
