    When fighting the window of opportunity is always small. Even to strike someones hand. What get from this video is, you take advantage of your opponent's actions work with ur natural reaction. Study and practice is key. Studying under Guru Baet was an honor hopefully I can continue one day

    Wow.....you got skills, guro!!!
    I just started teaching myself arnis about a week or 2 ago, learning the moves from youtube and practising them until it feels smooth. Trying to do what I can with what I've got, but I think I really need an instructor to teach me and guide me properly, hehe...
    All I can do for now is practice everyday and spar with my sister...im teaching her what I learn...wish me luck, guys!!!

    Looks great. For sure skill involved. However, any time I watch all out stick fighting, I never see anyone pull off any of these disarms. The disarms always come from striking the hand or arm, so I rarely practice these techniques.

    I agree with all these technique. I remember my grandpa when he showed us the same style and techniques. But of course it will take time to master all this. Grandpa said you will need to practice is slowly and train to control the tip of your stick to target. Saw him one full moon practising and he was dead fast and all I can hear was the whistling of the sticks.

    These disarms can be applied in an all out stick fight once you get to hold stick of your opponent and then applied those techniques remember to hold first the stick of your opponent

    I agree with ldpole45. There's a very small window for these disarms to work. I'd rather disarm hitting the hand and breaking it. There's a reason you don't see these disarms in tournaments. To hard to pull off. Looks good in a demo though......

  • @LP4977
    @LP4977 Před 11 lety +1

    In theory yes, you can apply these techniqes. But theory and application are two different things. In all of my sparring and training, the window for these techniques are too small to try and execute. Let alone on another experienced stick fighter. They look good in a demonstration with a willing partner, but for me, that's as far as it would go. i wouldn't use them. I'd rather crack the hand or arm for a sure disarm.

    • @neomagnon
      @neomagnon Před 9 měsíci

      Absolutely true. You don't see these disarming techniques applied in sparring, competitions, let alone in a dynamic street-fights where your opponent is highly mobile and bent to kill you. But these are good in dojos.

  • @67Mannheim
    @67Mannheim Před 11 lety

    In real fights, the sticks bounce off against each other. By the time you curl your hand to lock the striker's hand, his hand will have been in a retracting sequence. This is hardly realistic in dynamic stick fighting.
    It can be done perhaps if the 'antagonist' is really way slower than the 'assumed' protagonist. :)

      Its okay. Its only a drill. Escrima usually starts with drills then spar later. Like boxing, hitting the bag then spar afterwards. Here in the Philippines we arr drinking beer or gin while we test each other with no armor. And its fun. 😉

    • @jivatma
      @jivatma Před 5 lety +1

      "Bouncy sticks" is a sign of poor technique. We always strive to improve and go beyond the "bouncy sticks" and be more fluid. And by the way, you may want to avoid hitting sticks against sticks in a real fight. You target body parts, parry the sticks, don't block head on ;). I'm sure you're an expert, but maybe you have looked over that aspect. Cheers :D

    • @moontidemartialarts915
      @moontidemartialarts915 Před 5 lety

      Agreed. In this day and age anyone can just hope on youtube and see REAL stick fights. Hardly ever any disarms. Also never see checking of the hands like many styles preach (which probably has been misconstrued from clearing a blade bind). Just watch some Dog Brother fights. Or Bahalana sparring..... there are lots of options to see what an actual fight looks like.

  • @LP4977
    @LP4977 Před 11 lety

    How can you realistically take advantage of your opponent's action with this type of training, if this is how the technique is trained? Will my opponent just leave his stick out there for him to grab it and snake my way in to disarm? No. Like i said, it won't work. Practicing these disarms on a combative and resistant opponent can increase your chances in doing so in a real fight, but i still wouldn't use them. If these techniques were valid, how come they are never used in a sparring matches?
