I first stumbled upon the term "Enrolled Agent" in May 2019 when I literally googled "gigs to do on the side of music." This search was elicited by emotional roadblock, a rut that could only be attributed to my approaching the inevitable income ceiling of my live music business over the last 3 years (and now, in 2020, an uncertain future in that business due to COVID-19 shutdowns).
I already knew I liked taxes (filling out my schedule C annually is like an IHOP activity sheet to me), so after watching your fun and HIGHLY informative video, this credential jumped out as a perfect related field that would both increase my business admin savviness AND extend my skills to new bounds.
As of yesterday, a little over a year later, I have now passed Part 1 of the SEE Exam and am looking forward to holding my EA in 2021 (fingers crossed!!!). Thank you for showing me the path to a new dream, Crysta!!

I feel like I have been wasting my time by not becoming an EA. I have been preparing taxes for 5 years now and have really not given my all to building and stayed away from EA status. I am definitely doing that this year. Thank you for your videos! Subscribed!!!

Your welcome! Thank you for your support. If, becoming an EA is your next step you should definitely take it. However, if you are going to become an EA you should also own your own virtual 6 figure tax and bookkeeping business. It is very profitable. We have a course titled, "Tax and Accounting Clients on Demand." This course would be perfect for you. When you are ready to take that leap of faith, learn more and join just click here:

An EA isnt the equivalent of a MST. MST programs are much more in depth, the curriculum often includes reading actual Tax Court cases, reading the actual IRC and Regs, tax research and understanding the tax framework and process if how taxes are enacted etc. I've worked in tax for public accounting firms, including Big 4 firms, and often times people do not know how to actually read the Code, unless they are Senior managers or above. Also, I've met EAs who do not know how to read an Operating Agreement (e.g., waterfall provisions, profit percentages vs capital percentages, 704(c), 704(b), etc) which is very scary since that is what drives the allocations to the members. Tax work isnt data entry and knowing a few rules.

F3nom There is no limit to what an EA can learn just because they didn’t pay for an expensive degree. I’m a CPA in audit and I meet all kinds of incompetent and unscrupulous licensed and educated professionals. You might be surprised how many less-formerly educated and licensed professionals, like EAs, are actually more motivated to improve their knowledge because they understand the need to overcome the bias they face when competing with more people with prestigious designations that might be complacent due those designations.

After consuming all of the knowledge needed to pass the exam, where can you learn new or specific tax strategies? Like, what’s the resource / research method or how do you go about learning these new things?

I have a question. even though i m an EA I still lack experience to complete more complex returns. and I still have to learn how to use the hrblock software. every tax Sean I feel like I have to fight just to get clients and I deal with a lot a tension because my coworkers are afraid of losing clients to me. I wanna stay at hr block for the experience I can gain. but would it be worth it? or should I just try to start my own virtual tax business? iv been considering it for some time. thanks
