- Does the Toyota Tahara plant and Hino Hamura plant produce different versions of the new Land Cruiser? Why is the new Land Cruiser manufactured in both factories? Are the new 2025 4Runner, the Land Cruiser 250 and Lexus GX all produced in the same line? These are some of the interesting questions that were asked by David during an interview with Tahara plant Assembly Engineer in Japan. Find out some interesting facts through this exclusive interview.

I love how clean the plant is! I worked at the Toyota plant in Cambridge as a millwright and I also worked at the Chrysler plant in Windsor Ontario and they are worlds apart! The Chrysler plant was a complete "pig pen" while in the Toyota plant, you could literally "eat off the floor". It's that clean!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I actually had the pleasure to tour the Cambridge plant back in 2017 when I got my then new Rav4 and I must say I was very impressed.
🇨🇦
Always impressed with your ability to actually speak with the engineers who design and build the vehicles we love and purchase. Thanks
David, I would like to pass along thanks to Mr Iwashita for sharing his time and insights with the channel. I would also like to extend an open offer to those who are devastated and heartbroken to learn their Land Cruiser was made in the Hamura plant that built the legendary T100 as well as the FJ Cruiser rather than the Tahara plant. Feel free to park your new Land Cruiser outside my house and just leave the keys and paperwork in the mailbox. I will take care of the rest. 😉😉If these Japanese built Toyotas are as solid and reliable as my 19 year old, made in California, USA 'Toyota', they will be very good indeed!!😁😁😁 Finally, a big round of🙌🙌🙌🙌 is due for the Takumi Parking Masters 1:48 who expertly slot those expensive new vehicles 2 inches apart. 😄😄
Agreed. I have a 2007 4Runner Limited that is bulletproof and in great condition. I tell everyone it drives like a Lexus!
Dude forgot to thank the Academy for making this a great award show & your agent for finding you a good script! 😂😂
David, I would really enjoy seeing a video of you touring the plant in Mexico where the Tacoma is built.
I wish you asked about the engine recalls (the 3.4 twin turbo ones).
Correct me if Im wrong but those are not built in Japan
There's a Lexus GX that has the same recall as the tundra and those are manufactured on japan @@marcs1386
incorrect because the GX and LX and sequoia and tundra all use the same engine and have recalls on those engines right now.
GX and LX are made in Japan, the others in US/Mexico now. But the recalls are because of the engine and not because where it’s made. But yes, quality control with tighter tolerances go to the Japanese plants but that doesn’t matter on this topic as the recalls are due to engine itself I believe. They’re fixing it:
The 2,8 L Diesel will make most sense anyway
David will never ask a Toyota executive or engineer about recalls because he does not want to be like John Wick… Excommunicado!
Thank you for these tour videos!
Toyota/Lexus. Number 1. Amazing
Yup, number one in dusted engines and DPF failures.
@@AussieDazzaYou need an offroader for going offroad and a Land cruiser for getting home again they say in Africa and Australia 🤣🤣
You Americans just now about America 🤣🤣
What special checks do Lexus vehicles undergo that Toyota vehicles do not?
He has gone over this in other videos
Assembly engineer is close to reality and convincing, well done , david!
💯 % 🇯🇵 my condition to buy Toyota
Toyotas are not what they once were.
Why ? Plenty of Japanese built Toyota’s have reliability issues in Australia.
Great video, David! It would be interesting to see you converse in Japanese (even tho I don’t understand it). If you feel comfortable, consider not fast forwarding thru those parts
Toyota is such an amazing company. Stickying to my 200 serie but i hope the Lexus GX will be available in europe.
Great video! “The Toyota Product Development System” by James M. Morgan and Jeffrey Liker describes a “Simultaneous Engineer” on the product development (engineering) team. “This Simultaneous Engineer is a production engineering expert who advises the Module Development Team on manufacturing aspects of design within his or her specialty (i.e. stamping, welding, etc.) and also serves as the program representative who advises production engineering specialist who will perform the actual manufacturing engineering.” Where does an “Assembly Engineer” fit in? Of course, everyone remembers Henry Ford and Frederick Taylor’s “Industrial Engineers”. I realize there may be some nuance and personal choice in translating from Japanese.
Great video, thank you. I have experience with mixed model assembly. Running these three very similar vehicles on the same line makes a lot of sense. I would like to see how they handle left hand and right hand drive configurations.
Any update on whether the IS500 will continue till 2025, and if so will there be a mild refresh?
You should tour the LC 500 Line !
Love your Toyota tours David
As someone who is Japanese and speaks fluent Japanese I would love to hear you converse in Japanese. Good video as usual!

Any info on the Toyota (FJ, Mini, Land Hopper) ?
hi now that its the end of July... is the new 4runner currently in production ???
Great interview David and very informative‼️🎯 9:33
Should have retained the reliable and durable V-8
Hello from Peru! I really like your accent, what country you were born in? Thank
Great video. Thanks. Would you be able to answer - Will a 2 inch leveling kit and 285 70 18 tires affect the traffic assist or any other sensors.
Toyota/Lexus number 1. Amazing
The LC250 is growing on me. But I’m still not giving up my LX570.
Hi David, CZcams has just informed me that both CBI and Westscott Designs has both released their Side Step Rocker Panel Rock Sliders, for the J250, if you were interested. Also, CBI installed the latest Tundra TRD wheels onto their Land Cruiser and it looks stunning
David, CZcams has now informed me that Dissent Offroad has released their version of Rock Sliders for the J250 Land Cruiser. They look absolutely amazing! They almost look like OEM Running Boards. But when you look closer, you can see the detailed thick welds and heavy duty bolts, and you can really tell, they really mean business.
Can Toyota “fix” the Land Cruiser so it doesn’t require premium gas since they did the same thing when the FJ Cruiser came out so I hope Toyota fixes this or at least make premium optional but you can still put in regular for a little less horsepower or something
It's already been done for the 2024 Tacoma you don't have to run Premium fuel it is suggested it is not mandatory, it is as you say at a slightly reduced horsepower rating
@@99unclebob yes I know the Tacoma can take regular but in the Land Cruiser’s owners manual and on the gas cap it says premium only Not optional like the Tacoma with the same engine
I really wish North America would get the 70 series land cruiser
6:30 does LC/GX have stronger frame and rigid body compared to 4Runner?
As in the taylor welds are thicker on parts of the frame and more metal straps on the body
What about the Land Cruiser? Why is the Prado sharing the same platform as the Land Cruiser? Why is there no short-wheelbase Prado? Now, I feel no significant difference between the Land Cruiser and Prado.
So what you're saying, David, is that without the advantage of using the same chassis, Toyota vehicles would be much more than the already astronomically high MSRPs they are today?
Got it! 👍
Any chance we can tour the San Antonio and the Mexican plants?
Toyota specs give the Landcruiser front legroom as 33", the GX550 front legroom as 41"; pretty big difference!
What will be difference in VIN for the two factories?
I subscribe to a buncha car channels and I guess they all figured out that the best way to generate clicks is by posing next to the vehicle with outreaching hands. They all do it! Some even jump up in the air.
Interestingly you both shook his hand and bowed
I have always appreciated Toyota’s focus on quality and build efficiency however the past ten years value and money is not as great in the US market in regards to SUV and trucks. The pricing for a vehicle that’s meant to be a daily driver and off-roader is too high. Even 66k for a base landcruiser is crazy as I’ll “pine stripe” it rhe first time offroad. Tires in new landcruiser are straight highway tires so then it’ll be another $1000-$1500 on tires and not sure about wheels. I’ve never paid more than 40l for a vehicle before and do t plan on any time soon.
Hi David. It's nice to know they maintained the same standards but it's way too overpriced. I'm from SEA and the Prado 250 here is the same price as a Mercedes Benz E Class. The engine we get is the same as the Toyota Fortuner with the 1GD engine. Why pay a 50% premium for what is a HiLux and Fortuner? And if you're a current Prado 150 owner would you swap your 150 with a 1GR V6 for this?
All i heard was toyota streamlining production to save money and then charging us even more money.
Is it worth trading my GR Corolla for one or my Type R
Ask him! Is it still reliable ? Will it outlast the last gen? Will all the new Toyota with turbo engine last up to 300k mile or 500k miles with no issues?
The last one in the 200 series had twin turbo 4,5L and the 150 series had the same 2,8 L turbo as this new 250.
You talks like we were in the 80's Even the 60 series had turbo in some engine.

Why does Toyota not put Lexus' 3.4 L V6 into Land Cruiser?
If 4cyl isn't a deal breaker premium fuel definitely is! 😓
I'd suggest just doing the interview in Japanese and adding subtitles after. This format is odd to watch.
Why couldn’t we get a good engine?
If they leave the turbo in the engines vehicle will require lots of maintenance. Turbo is not good for any engine. Unless it is a race vehicle.
Watched this expecting some news on the recalls on the engines and transmissions as well as bad paint jobs, but nothing. Been a Toyota guy my whole life, but just can't pull the trigger with all these problems. Get it together Toyota so I can buy a GX.
I'm not doubting this is a quality vehicle but it really is overpriced. 60k for a base 1958. The cargo are is compromised with the hybrid setup. Looks like a Ford bronco/FJ cruiser. Long term reliability with the 4 turbo is not established. Want one I would Wait 2 years
Blame Joe Biden and the United Nations 🇺🇳 for fuel efficiency requirements. Inflation and the cost of materials can't stay the same in price
Just swap that ramen noodle engine for a proper 6 cylinder.
