Moissanite is more shiny than Diamond because it has a higher RI and a higher dispersion, it is also birefringent. That’s the easiest way to tell them apart😊

If you have to test it rather than looking at it to know the difference you are better off buying the moissanite. When there is a difference of multiple thousand of pounds difference does that really matter when you have to use a tester to know the difference

This is shocking for me. I always thought lab grown and the real Diamond are the exactly same just different on how they were made. Obviously man made and natural.
Now knowing that the tester will say the lab grown as moissanite, i’d have to hide or run from the people who has a tester 😅

Some HPHT diamonds can test as moissanite because of metal inclusions. CVD diamonds will test as a diamond. Even natural diamonds can test as moissanite if the diamond has been color treated. It changes the electrical conductivity of the diamond.

Omg Bonnie! I went through this!!! I have a GCAL certified 3.72 carat lab grown diamond. I got it cleaned at Kay and my husband out of curiosity wanted to have it tested. We got married in February. Well the lady said we had a moissianite. I was heartbroken 💔. My husband thought we had been scammed and said we need to go to the police! I said hold on it has a certificate!!! What’s going on! We called GCAL and they assured us it was real

It's annoying to see the public doubt specialists- like Bonnie and Sharrie- when they lack the chemistry and physics-based knowledge that would easily combat such nonsense as these pocket testing devices.

That’s disappointing to know that lab diamonds will pop up moissanite because lab diamonds can conduct electricity whereas natural diamonds doesn’t. The appeal of having a lab diamonds is that it’s supposed to be like a natural diamond every single way and pass the diamond tester. I guess people will know if someone have a lab diamond vs a natural diamond due to the fact that it will read moissanite.

Lab diamonds conduct electricity due to its boron component that causes the colour of the diamond crystal to appear more white. The structure and colour improve using the boron component. Top quality lab grown diamonds are now within everyone's reach now prices are affordable due to mass production. Crappy diamond testers don't last forever, whereas lab grown diamonds do:)

A lab diamond test as moissanite because the methods of making moissanite are almost identical to making lab diamonds, but yes a very expensive machine will recognize the difference! However, can your friends or the people you are trying to impress by wearing insanely expensive diamonds tell the difference? Nope! and that's why it would be more ethical and financially responsible to mount moissanite in gold settings and be happy. BTW it takes longer and cost more in material to grow a moissanite than it takes to grow a diamond! That's how foolish it is to buy lab grown. Paying a thousand times the amount it cost for them to make that lab grown diamond instead of getting moissanites is stupid
