    Hello Phil and Karen. Phil you came up with an idea that would make more money faster than selling kindling. That idea of making a multiple blade table saw is the answer. You can design that, patent it and sell them and let every one else make the kindling. Think of all the time you would have not cutting and bundling that wood. You put that saw in a box, get paid and send it on its way!!! Remember the old saying “Work smarter not harder” This could be the start of something big. I’m sure you would have bought one if it was available. Thanks for another good video.

      Well it’s not a table saw with multiple blades but woodmizer makes a resaw machine or some call it a edger that ya just feed lumber into an it has multiple blades that you can move so you can trim the barkie edges off . My brain is always turning trying to find a better or faster way to

    Phil and Karen another great 👍 video,Phil maybe 🤔 raise the table saw blade up so that you could cut two or three blocks at a time also if you have two wheel barrels one for the saw and one at the pallet for stacking 😮😊❤

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      I did experiment with trying to cut 2 pieces at once but it made the saw cut twice as slow it’s just a small home owner table saw . We did end up putting a piece of plywood down about 2 ft off the ground to catch the pieces and the pallet was moved so it would be right next to the saw .

      Really the only hard wood we separate is the oak because it takes so long to dry . But we do separate all the splits into bundle grade , ugly or just regular firewood .

    I take the sawdust from my woodmizer and put it on sheet pans and then in the oven to dry. I then melt some parafin in a crockpot and mix in the dried sawdust. Scoop into mini muffin paper cups and insert a small piece of wick. Bag these firestarters up, 12 to a bag and sell for $ 5.

  • @MojoRanch18
    @MojoRanch18 Před 5 měsíci

    Hey Phil and Karen. Love your channel. Be careful, you’re going to have a kickback event at some point leaving wood pinched between the fence and blade of your table saw. Also, for as many ripping cuts you have to make for each piece, your odds of getting a finger or hand in the saw are pretty high. For the sake of efficient use of your time, have you considered just milling your poor grade logs lengthwise into kindling sized wood, then you’d just be left with cross cutting them to length, which would be a lot quicker with a lot less cuts. Maybe you could sell your scrap cutoffs or just continuing to burn them yourself? Just an idea but may not be right for your business. Thanks for the great content! 35 bundles. Nate

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I think if the kindling business grows we could use the low grade logs on the mill an saw ito strips . I agree it would be a lot safer cutting them to length on a chop saw a making the strips on the saw mill .

  • @Shawn_Richards
    @Shawn_Richards Před 5 měsíci

    Hey Phil, I believe Milwaukee and others make a thin curf blade for ripping. It wouldn't be a whole lot thinner but it would possibly create a little less sawdust but it would definitely be easier on your saw motor. Would probably be able to push it through faster also. Just a thought buddy, take care.

    Maybe firestarters in the future with all that sawdust? 🤔 might not be worth your time, but never know. That looks like a good idea for cutting the kindling. • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      We have no shortage of sawdust especially when we are sawing on the sawmill but we was thinking about trying our hand at making fire starters to add to each bundle of kindling . I think a resaw machine or board edger for lumber is perdy close to what I was thinking for a multi blade set up . If the kindling business takes off I will have to look into one of them and modify it . Everyone likes to laugh an have fun it just so much better than being mad an ticked off at the world . Thanks Robert

    The table saw will work and be relatively quick. Just be cautious of kickback on a piece or two when it's left between the blade and fence. Another way would be with a 14" or preferably bigger bandsaw with a resaw blade on it. It would saw it pretty fast also and be safer so Karen could saw if she wanted to. I have a 20" delta that we used last year for that same purpose. I had bought it off marketplace or Craigslist. Keep up the good work

We sawed the boards at 3/4 an then flipped em on there side an resawed at 3/4 again but the pieces broke apart anyplace there was a bad knot an made a heck of a mess and it’s outside . @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      We did that a while back in a video but got the same result as hand splitting actually with multiple blocks on the splitter we got even more scrap than using just a hatchet . By using the table saw instead of splitting we can saw threw knots a twisted grain an we get more pieces pr board to use as kindling . We want to rig up something so we can also start using all of our slabs from the saw mill as well for kindling but our slabs range in thickness from 5 in to 1/4 in thick . Kindling once proceeded is worth 4 times as much as camp wood bundles and can be made inside when the weather is crappy . Thanks Brian

    Be careful Phil, you don't want to lose an index finger too. Have you tried doing 2 or 3 boards at the same time? How about doing 6-10 boards at a time on the splitter. If you keep using the axe, you should hold the wood with sone channel locks or a clamp. It is great that you are taking a waste product from your pallets and turning it into a salable product.. That saw is faster than I thought it would be and it is really uniform.

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci +1

      We tryed doing that on the splitter a few months back but just like splitting by hand we got a lot of scrap and inconsistent pieces an couldn’t use any of the pieces that had really twisty grain or had knots . The table saw lets us use all the scrap now to make kindling . I haven’t tryed stacking the boards up on the table saw yet mostly because of kick back an with twice as thick it will probably take twice as long to cut but I might try it anyway to see . Thanks James

  • @Dorchwoods
    @Dorchwoods Před 5 měsíci

    Also, I'm wondering if you even need to stack the kindlin? I feel like it's small enough that you can just keep piles of them in plastic IBC tote containers (with holes poked throughout for airflow). As long as they stay dry I can't imagine they'd mold up or develop fungus? Might be worth a test!

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      I kinda like having it stacked mostly because then I know how much we have on hand and it will be easier to just grab a big handful and drop it into the tube when we make bundles . But ya I think ya right it would be fine in just a big pile .

    Thinner blade or a band saw or take a blade and slick off them notches. But yeah a saw blade set up on a planer. For now a stack as high as the blade with a simple jig. Plus side with the saw you can take the saw dust and make fire starters.

    Make long strips on the saw mill and then cut them to 12 inches using a jig on the saw. I see someone else already guessed my guess, so I will put another guess here. 57 bundles is my guess.

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      I did try that on the saw mill but when I hit a knot it broke the strips apart an we had a mess to pick up out side . I was sawing the strips 3/4 by 3/4 . I need to find a way to use all the slabs we get off the mill instead of using them for camp wood bundles but a lot of the slabs are 4 in thick . Kindling is worth 4 times as much as camp wood so that’s my next project to figure out .

    • @AllenFamilyFirewood
      @AllenFamilyFirewood  Před 5 měsíci

      We did try that a few months back but got the same results as hand splitting A lot of scrap and you can only use strait grained boards . On the saw table we can use twisted grain or even the boards with knots so we get to use more of our scrap lumber an get a better return on it .
