Shame I forgot about the second round of the testpunch. As I thought, the three other characters were playable, as well as this... monster. XD It's actually a really unique take on the whole possession/evil doppelgangar trope.

It has happened...in a new mode called Hedlok Scramble, except you are not fighting a team when you get the mask. Also, the mask cannot stay on forever.
It is like Hedlok is based on one of the Kirby villains named Dark Matter.

I used mainly master mummy during the testpunch. Once we fought This Lv. 6 Hedlok. Got targeted by his combo twice.

It goes from golden level 5 to Terminator level 4.
I fought and beat a lv.7 one twice (max lv). It's not hard once you stop hitting each other, and combo light hits instead of throwing, throwing lowers dps in this case (you can't hit him while he is down)
I can never beat this thing at lvl 5

Kevin Schuller just a rendering thing, similar things happen in Overwatch in Play of the Games,
Kevin Schuller because the video footage you see is actually the game rerendering that part of the match and just moving the camera around differently. So it first gets rid of the players on the stage at the moment, and then puts em back to where they were during the replay, have them do what they did in that moment, but show it at a different camera angle. Usually this is all masked within a quick fade to black and fade back to replay, but we caught some of the process in front of our eyes.

@Tristan Ahn Well if you asking me its because the campaign mode is probably short. Like with most fighting games, the story isn't a big deal to most, its all about beating the tar out of another human player. You'll probably fight this dude within' 10 minutes of getting the full game, so its not really worth keeping a secret.
That's dumb. Why would they bother making him seem like a secret in the trailer if it's that easy to get to him

sad thing is is that you fight this monstrosity as the final boss of the campaign. I'm guessing it attaches to the body of that fighter that was supposedly the final boss that fought spring man (you know, the tough fighter that you don't see the face of in the most recent arms Nintendo direct? no one's going to know who I'm talking about)
