that's why in the live action, they canonically have GRAN-GRAN tell the intro story of avatar aka when the fire nation attacked. it makes perfect sense.

Because it's realistic, stuff the animated series couldn't show. Now that we're all adults, it can still relate to us now that we can pick up on the deeper topics, and understand the emotional journey each person is on. The air benders mostly study defense. In the last season of the animated series, Aang mentioned that the air benders had no military power. That's why they got beaten by fire.

@@alessiajane394 that's one thing about this show that I really don't like. They take everything implied and nuanced and just make it super obvious, usually with exposition. Like...why take a kids show with such depth and make a show "for adults" that is shallow as hell.

That air temple raid scene was done so well and I'm glad that Iroh and Zuko are still great. I know the remake's been getting a lot of hate, and no, it can't compare to the original. But personally, I kind of like this and a few of the little changes.

Eh idk, all the Air Nomads were in one place, as specified by the show, it was an explicit genocide mission, plus they could clearly be very dangerous in a fight, it would make more sense to go hog wild and incinerate them all into oblivion. Thats what Sozin wanted in the first place, pure scorched earth
@@pablolacalle6098 And that explains how they managed to get all the airbenders in one day, remember that the Comet don't last for very long, they couldn't afford to go to each Air Temple to get em. It had to have been all of them gathering as a perfect moment to strike.

@@benapeh854 I'll be honest. Reading the Gene Yang graphic novels (writing is really shallow and predictable) and having watched Korra, I kinda lost interest in the future of Avatar. Still love the original, but it was just downhill after that.

Zuko and Sokka were incredibly acted lol and Aang’s actor had moments where he flashed good acting but that was usually helped by another talented actor across the screen from him. He’s young and this was his first role so he’s going to undeniably get better in later seasons. Gran Gran was the worst actor on the show and thankfully we don’t see her past the first episode lol

The guy playing Iroh has shown up in a few things before, that might be why Lupa feels ike he seems familiar. He's had a recurring role in a lot of the live action Star Wars stuff on Disney Plus (Mando, Ahsoka) so that could be it.
I pray they get second season because the director did say with this first season being out and him hearing all the opinions he knows what to do better next season and I enjoyed this very much 😂

Igloo's built the way they are meant to are actually surprisingly warm, even toasty, inside and resistant to heat and cold in the climates they are made for. Building a flame inside causes a layer of ice inside to partially melt and then harden, forming an insulating layer which they improve with furs etc.
Y’know now that I think about it, it’s explained in one of the comics that Aang’s life was drained because of the years he was in the avatar state, so he died at 66. Had katara and Sokka not saved him, he would eventually die and the avatar cycle would be lost forever

Honestly that really confused me. Why did they have the full intro voice over that was different from the original and then have the grandmother give it again the same as the original? Felt a bit superfluous to give that information twice in the same episode with slightly different phrasing.

This was Kyoshi at 20:39 when she was in an enclosed space with some guys after her, it's said Kyoshi knew the secret to Airbending it's the most deadly element when used in enclosed spaces, she created a gust and basically rag doll the guys around the room 💀

I feel like I enjoyed watch8hg this more with y’all than I did by myself and that’s one reason I love reaction channels. I liked the pilot about a 2.5/5 watching it by myself but a 3.5 or 4/5 with y’all.
Something I don't understand is why they didn't adapt the signal going out around the world. The whole point of that was to be the fuel for everyone to actually start fighting again. It's supposed to be like just the existence of the avatar causes change and gives hope to everyone.

They said the live action was meant to be more mature and target an older audience but they literally just removed all of the subtlety and masterful use of subtext present in the original and made every line of dialogue exposition.
They don't trust the audience to decipher anything by themselves. You don't get even a single second to wonder what's going on or how a character feels about something because they'll straight up just tell it to your face every time.
Also, most if not all of the things they changed were not for the better...
And in my opinion it's all a big shame, because a truly LOVE most of the cast and think they were very carefully chosen for each one of their roles.

Look, I kinda get it... but you are clearly remembering the original series thru rose tainted glasses. I myself find the original series is a masterpiece but I don't lie to myself either. I KNOW there is a lot to complain/dismantle in the original series, let's not kid ourselves. People complaining about things like "Oh NO Sokha aint sexist anymore!" When I can clearly say that Sokha was the worst one dimensional sexist ever written ... and that was for 4 episodes MAX. So complaining about that AINT A THING. And I can EASILY go on and on, because you see, if one wants to dismantle a series bit by bit, one can always accomplish this task easily. So pleeease, don't come with "Oh no my subtext and subtlety, where it gone??" cause I'll easily come back and point out all the "unsubtle subtext" from season one. And believe me lol there's a lot of examples buttercup.

How about you then start defining what made Sokka the worst one dimensional sexist ever written and provide some comparisons as to why Sokka's worse than these other characters. Clearly, it was too subtle for you to understand that sexism existed in the Water tribe as they were being too stuck in their old ways in an ever-changing world with greater changes brought forth due to the influence of the Avatar.
Did the OP ever write that there wasn't any "unsubtle subtext"? I get it, this is hard for you to understand., however, saying that the "subtle subtext" is missing is not the same as saying there only was "subtle subtext". All shows have that.

Edit: I don't think the show is bad, just not as good as it could've been. However, they started losing me after episode 3. I think the first 2 episodes were great. And I think ppl are putting too much blame on the actors and not the director and the writer.

I'm currently on episode 4. Really enjoying it so far. I liked some of the changes to certain parts but not fully feeling on the other parts. Overall, it is mostly faithful to the series.
The look of the costumes was fantastic and almost all of the characters looked or sounded similar to the actual characters. The fight scenes and seeing how bending looked in live action was really good too. The CGI is also pretty good for the most part surprisingly enough.
Was really surprised with how much I liked the show. The musical score is also fucking amazing too! They kept some of the cues we're familiar with but updated them a bit. Really cool easter eggs there! The music reminded me of The Forbidden Kingdom as well.
