The two pieces he performs are Nigun from Baal Shem by Ernest Bloch and Efrem Zimablist's Fantasy on themes from Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Golden Cockerel.
William has been a musician from a young age, playing the violin from the age of four and becoming a member of the National Children's Orchestra only a few years later.
He was also a talented treble singer, becoming BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year in 2006, and was a member of the treble boyband The Choirboys as well as one of the three boys in Kenneth Branagh's film production of The Magic Flute.
William is currently a student at the Yehudi Menuhin School and will be continuing his musical studies in Lausanne, Switzerland, from September.

It was an incredible String Final 2014. The first three violins who played blew me away with their incredible talent and brilliant personalities. Then the harpist played extremely well displaying a rare musical gift, already making it impossible to decide a winner. At the time I didn't think it would be possible for someone else to come out on stage and rise above the rest, such was the high standard. But William Dutton did it by playing exceptionally well and, whilst I would have been more than happy for any of the other finalists to have been chosen to go forward, I strongly agree with the judges final result. William Dutton is an outstanding violin player who already has my full respect. Good luck to him in the main final.

Initially, their comments about him were more critical than others. So, I was surprised he won through.
