During the Omega DLC, Shepard works with Aria T’Loak to help her recapture the Omega station from Cerberus and Oleg Petrovsky. The mission will see us confronting a number of different moral dilemmas, as civilians get caught up in the war between Aria’s forces (including the Talon gang led by Nyreen Kandros) and Cerberus.
For instance, do we take Nyreen’s side in her arguments with Aria. Nyreen is more interested in helping civilians at all costs, while Aria is primarily out for revenge and power. And when we have to deactivate Cerberus shields throughout the station, do we simply cut off the power - dooming thousands of innocent hospital patients currently on life support or do we attempt to reroute the power to only deactivate the shields, at the risk of failing to bring them down.
The choices we make throughout the mission will have an impact on Aria. Will we indulge and encourage her thirst for revenge and blood? Or will we chip away at that hard edge and bring out a more compassionate side from the Queen of the Afterlife?
Near the end of the mission, as Aria and Shepard make the final push to Oleg’s headquarters at the Afterlife, Nyreen sacrifices herself to save a group of civilians from a swarm of Adjutants - monsters that Cerberus created and tested on Omega. Seeing Nyreen, who was at one time Aria’s lover, die in front of her eyes, throws Aria into a rage. She tears into the Afterlife with one goal in mind - killing Oleg Petrovsky.
Depending on your choices throughout the DLC, as well as in these final moments, the last confrontation can end four different ways.

@@Mikeh2077 He was probably a Hegemony agent. Subtle as a flaming brick, true, but given that a confirmed high-ranking member of the batarian government tried to drop a goddamn asteroid on a human colony, an action that would have seen them blatantly violate one of the galaxy's biggest laws and thus trigger war against all of Citadel-controlled space, I consider blatantly poisoning human drinks at a bar to be par for the course. Batarians as a rule just don't seem to be all that low-key.
Bray seems pretty cool, though, for a pirate queen's adjutant. Probably the only batarian we meet in the entire series that I don't want to shoot in all four eyes.

    • @Torthrodhel
      @Torthrodhel Před 2 lety +18

I bet the hegemony are behind most of the general impression of batarians. My headcanon is that they don't allow anyone "disagreeable" to even leave the homeworld (they are stated as very tightly controlling, after all) and so there are probably millions of batarians who are bunches of fun but keep quiet about it, never get off the planet due to it, or get executed for it. You'd have to be particularly useful, as well as quite go-with-the-flow, to slip the net. Bray seems that way.
We never see a female batarian, always makes me wonder if their government's sexist as well, like "it's not a woman's place to be exploring the galaxy" or something like that. Either as an absolute or maybe more of a cultural ingraining, making it so unlikely that we don't see it. Or... it could just be a flaw this trilogy tended to have with alien genders (normally sticking to one just for ease of modelling), and nothing to do with in-universe lore.

I played ParaGade, as I usually do, so I 1) sided with Nyreen most of the time, 2) brought the shields down in time without sacrificing any civilians, 3) let Arya kill Oleg because fuck that guy, and 4) told her she needs to focus on the people and take care of them.
She called me weird and dangerous, but in the end she adopted my philosophy and told the people of Omega to exile Cerberus from their home, shifting to Nyreen’s protective stance.
Arya gets her revenge, the people are cared for, and Arya’s hacker gave me intel on Cerberus so I didn’t even need Oleg. Everybody wins.

I used to spare Petrovsky, viewing the war asset as a sign it was the right thing to do. But on my most recent playthrough, I killed Oleg. Mainly for the Renegade points as I wanted to get the Illusive Man's renegade ending but tend to lean heavily paragon in Mass Effect in general. Now, thinking about it, I believe it's the right call. After World War 2, the US brought home a lot of Nazi scientists, some of whom were war criminals, via Project Paperclip. Yes, that brought us the space program, but it also spared some very disgusting people from trial and execution. I don't want the Adjutants to return again. But I figured the Alliance would take care of that.
Then I remembered who we were dealing with and the implication of the Adjutants existence in general. The Adjutants are a Mass Effect equivalent to Resident Evil's BOWs like the Lickers and Nemesis. And they have the ability to turn people into more Adjutants. Although safeguards can be put in place on the nanides Reapers use to turn people into husks (which I'm assuming are the mechanism Adjutants use to infect people), what are the odds that Cerberus put those safeguards in place? This is Cerberus we're talking about. They aren't exactly known for control of their experiments!
What Petrovsky did when allowing the Adjutants to be made was basically make an outbreak/pandemic risk. He released a bioweapon on Omega, something you only do if you're crazy, psychopathic or an idiot. A man who would do that cannot be trusted to live. You may ask "well how do you know the Illusive Man didn't order it?" Miranda tells us this herself, in order to safeguard other cells, all Cerberus cells are autonomous and compartmentalized. In other words Petrovsky has the ability to say NO to developing the Adjutants and he did it anyway.
We cured the genophage, why would we allow a clear pandemic risk made by Cerberus (who isn't exactly known for their caution or ethics) stand either? And in this case the Adjutants are actually more dangerous than the Genophage. The Salarians make things overcautious and sturdy, their minds are wonderfully agile and things they bioengineer seem to hold up fairly well. (Remember, the Genophage didn't mutate, the Krogan did! Mordin had to update the Genophage to work again!) In addition the Genophage wasn't made with murderous intent, the Adjutants were.
All Adjutants need to be destroyed, along with anyone who considers their creation and release ok. They represent a MAJOR outbreak/pandemic risk, but it gets worse. They're Reaper creatures. That means the Reapers could take control of them and said pandemic risk. They could use the Adjutants at a later date to try and fulfill their primary goal, convert or kill all sentient life. If one bite is enough to turn, anyone with weak enough armor is a potential casualty/vector. If physical contact is required to turn (skin to skin) then we're in real trouble. Omega is not the cleanest place in the galaxy, and there's a lot of fighting there, which means a lot of skin to skin contact.
Finally, there's the justice aspects of it. If what Petrovsky says is true, he's never going to stand trial for any of this. All the lives lost, all the damage, all the terror, and he gets to walk away? Hell no. Besides that we need to make an example when it comes to bioweapons. Besides other Cerberus cells, the Salarians are more than capable of creating bioweapons. If Petrovsky is killed in cold blood without trial it tells the rest of the galaxy "this will happen to you too. don't make bioweapons. EVER."
So I went the renegade vigilante route.

Technically speaking Aria is not crime lord mainly because of the fact that the things that she does is mainly done in the terminus system and the terminus system doesn't have any rules/laws or any law enforcement at all (except for the people themselves) and all the people who live in the terminus system and omega included all have to solve there own problems unless someone else is involved basically the terminus system is the gray area of mas effect so Aria could do just about anything she wants just as long that the people in the terminus system doesn't band together and rebel against her and plus she owns omega so yeah unless the mean things that she's has done have been done in *insert place that has law's here* (let's say council/citadel space) technically she hasn't broken any laws/rules she more like a renegade/A$$hole queen rather than a crime lord

I love the paragade option! I was playing mostly paragon with my femshep and I just couldn't take it when he decided to run his mouth and thanked me for "influencing Aria" to be merciful, it rubbed me the wrong way, so I threatened him back into his rightful place. Being merciful doesn't mean that you are safe, my femshep will not hesitate to give him back to Aria if need be.

I was waiting to stop Aria from killing Oleg after what happened to Nyreen. But I was surprised when she suddenly stopped and let him go and imprisoned him I guess? (Or she handed him over to the alliance, I think.) I was shocked to see that side of her, and how she commented that she can't figure me out, and there was something with me like a drug, I suppose. Hahaha, it was amazing when I finally walked out of afterlife while she was giving the speech to the people of omega. Man, it was one hell of a dlc, it was long but it was amazing!

If you're aiming for max war assets then it's best to keep Petrovski.

1:03 At least on my first playthrough, I eventually gave in, and "choose" to sacrifice those civilians when the 3rd and Final Renegade "trigger" presented itself. As I thought I were taking too long (and/or) Aria & Nyreen couldn't hold out any longer at that point. Plus that "I"/Shepard and aren't as familiar about the station as Aria and/or Nyreen are.

Just throwing it out there...I wonder if Oleg is related to Rebecca and Michael Petrovsky from ME 1 & 3 (baby & gene therapy debate). It would be interesting to find out if canon has something about it.

Do like the fact you can influence Aria to spare Oleg herself - really does make your choices meaningful to the story in this DLC.

Killing Petrovsky lead to 30 point of war asset, named "Aria's hakers", to be added to the First alliance fleet, since a thankfull Aria decide to share Cerberus data she and Braid found.
The message on the War asset update says: "Thanks to Aria's hacker, the Cerberus files located in General Petrovsky's Afterlife headquarters were retrieved mostly intact. The encryption ciphers are complex, but Aria has her top technicians scraping the data for anything that may be of use to the Alliance.
Key intel on Cerberus activities in Alliance theaters has already been found, providing the forces fighting in those areas a tactical edge. In more heavily encrypted files, valuable threads are emerging that could uncover top-secret Cerberus operations."
So there is no differences between sparing and killing him on the War asset point total... no matter what you do you recieve 300+75+30, only difference is where the 30 are added, so is more a roleplay choiche than a score one.
