    I was stationed on the USS Nauitlus SSN 571 from 1975-77. We were the very first nuclear submarine but also the very first nuclear powered vessel ever. When we did war games we always played the USSR submarine. The reason for that we sounded like a Hotel Class Russian sub. On one of those war games we popped 3 flares on the deck of a carrier which pissed off the captian of that carrier and the heard of that fleet. We all thought it was funny as all hell. To top it off when we needed some stores we went to that same carrier and took all of our stores from their stores that was supposed to go to their officers. Those were some great lobesters and rib eye steaks.

    Nothing compared to what I saw fly out of the water in Lynmouth, UK in 1988. I was a top a high hill looking towards the sea, when a saucer -shaped "craft" shot up out of the sea with water trailing behind it. The object went straight up into the sky and vanished. Colour, light grey. Definite saucer shape, exited water edge. on. Took my breath away and became the topic of conversation for the rest of the day.

      I saw the opposite, with two saucer-shaped craft that glowed take a dive into the Sea of Cortez, just like the flying sub from the old TV show and movie "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea."

    Pay attention boys and girls, when it is stated that the weakest point of this command(each ship is considered a Command, just as a base is a Command) is psychological vs technological. You're mindset is what is tested most

    More space for advanced weaponry? What about more space for the damn crew. They're spending billions on these subs and refuse to make the crew more comfortable. I was on subs and the military attitude towards crew on this matter is disgusting. They refuse to spend another penny on crew comfort. They'll change it when the day comes when no one volunteers for sub duty. And you don't want to assign someone to sub duty who doesn't want to be there. Spend more money on crew comfort and stop adding more weapons. Even the captains cabin on a sub is substandard.

    I was wondering if people on a sub can climb into tubes similar to missiles and be launched to safety if something went wrong 😮

    • @charleslord8672
      @charleslord8672 Před 18 dny +2

      Good question, answer being not recommended for this type of use, due to the possible depth you could be "deployed" at. After special training(basically learning advanced breathing techniques) it could be possible to exit the torpedo tubes and ascend to the surface after excruciatingly constant exhaling(to avoid the pressure decrease causing your lungs to burst), that and secure belief in your afterlife...yes Virginia, you can(in theory) exit a submarine via the torpedo tubes

    • @charleslord8672
      @charleslord8672 Před 18 dny +2

      Certain Special Ops personnel do exit and enter some of our submerged vessels via a little more safe, less known method utilizing what is (or used to be) called a dive trunk. The concept behind the "launch" tubes is to propel the projectile with as much pressure as to clear the tubes, thereby activating the onboard(projectile) propulsion system towards the target. Hope that helps Stoners👌
