What makes Vogue even more meaningful other than it took Madonna to take something from the LGBT underworld and make it mainstream way before anyone else did it. Is the fact that she used all openly gay dancers (except one who is heterosexual -- the blond guy that dances alone with her, Oliver). She continued to employee those dancers for another 2 years which included MTV Music Awards (record-breaking performance of Vogue -- you should watch it), the Blond Ambition Tour which resulted in the creation of the documentary of that tour entitled "Truth or Dare". First documentary of its kind. In addition, she is the first person to show two (2) men kissing tongue and all in theatres across the United States and around the world. Madonna did this not for the reason everyone might think, scandalous (maybe a little) but more for mainstreaming the gay committee because that was normal for her and she always liked being around gay men. Her dance teacher in HS is gay and he took a teenage Madonna to her first gay club in Michigan. Also, her younger brother, Christopher, is gay and she knew probably before he did. However, I read blogs where people have said that she stole Vogue from the gay committee. Those dancers, that you saw in the video are the guys in the clubs that were voguing. Madonna audition, the main guy, dark thin Hispanic, sitting in the chair in the video, in the Limelight (I believe) in the men's room and hired him in on the spot. (Just because you were not sure, and I guess it wasn't clear if you don't know them, but the two (2) ladies in the video are her backup singers, Donna DeLory and Nikki Harris. They worked with Madonna for approximately 10 years.) However, Madonna edited voguing somewhat for the mainstream. I understand why because the real voguing is very different than the cleaned-up version (still awesome) that Madonna and the dancers delivered to the world. Voguing was used instead of violence within the LGBT committee. Instead of physically fighting against each other they would battle it out. So voguing was more of in-your-face, I'm better than you are, more beautiful than you are and you can't compete so step aside bitch attitude. Also, a little more modelling/dancing. That being the case, it would not have shown or translated well into a 3 min video. I would imagine it would have been off-putting and seemed negative which it is not. Madonna took the spirit of the dance and glammed it up; which is the heart of voguing; as those voguers would have wanted to do so themselves, to introduce the dance to the world in a format that would ensure that it would be well received. It worked because Vogue was and still is one of her biggest top charting and best-selling singles ever worldwide. I agree with you regarding how Madonna looks in the video simply breathe taking. In fact, beautiful. Personally, it is my favorite look of hers and it is iconic Madonna. When I think of Madonna usually that's the image that I see first in my head, although I've been a fan since I was a boy from the beginning in 1982/1983. Vogue was recorded in Dec. 1989 and released in March 1990 on the Dick Tracey Inspired Album which made fans buy that album and it is a great album. Again, marketing idea from Madonna and boy did it work. Listen to some of those songs. A whole other side of Madonna you haven't seen or heard. You might just be sitting there with your Mom for a very long time reacting to Madonna's voluminous discography LOL!!. It wouldn't be so bad since you both seem like great peeps. Borderline was on her first album released in 1982 then again 1983 entitled Madonna.

Black and white footage was done on purpose. In the 1990’s color in movie and film had been around for 40 years 😂.. It was shot that way because the aesthetic of the video was meant to have an Art Deco look ( 1920’s -1930’s).. And yes, she had her back up singers in the music video, Donna and Nikki ..

Another beautiful reaction. Madonna saw a new dance trend called "voguing" being done in gay clubs in L.A. and NYC by black and Latino men and made a song out of it and included it in the her album "I'm Breathless", an album full of songs inspired by the movie Dick Tracy, which she starred in. She invited two of the most premier vogue dancers to participate in this video and they were also part of her Blonde Ambition Tour. Madonna was truly unstoppable during this era. Like a Prayer and then The Immaculate Collection (a Madonna collection of her 1980s hits with two new songs that included the racy "Justify My Love" whose video was banned from MTV for being too sexually graphic at the time) were the top selling albums from a solo female artist of 1989 and 1990 respectively and the aforementioned Blonde Ambition Tour is still one of the most successful tours of all time. This video was directed by David Fincher who later on became a well-known film director of The Social Network; Gone Girl; The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo; Fight Club; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; among others.

Need to checkout the Erotica, Sorry, Nothing Really Matters, Take a Bow, and God Control videos! Well at least these to begin with. Madonna was the game changer for pop music making her the Queen of Pop! There’s nothing any new artist can come up and not say Madonna has already done it! Also her live performances are untouched! Actually the actres Debi Mazar met Madonna in 1981 and began as her make up artist and is the videos for Papa Don't Preach, True Blue, Deeper and Deeper, Justify My Love, Erotica and Music. They are still really close and do a yearly jointed bday party. Donna Delory and Niki Haris who are the background singers began touring with Madonna on the. 1987 Whos That Girl Tour and did The Blond Ambition Tour , The Gilrie Show and Drowned World Tour and were used in all recording session between Like A Prayer and Music. Donna continued to tour with Madonna through the ReInvention Tour and Confessions Tour. But the only video Donna and Niki appered in was this one. Niki is in the video for Music. You should watch all the live performances of Vouge, the Blond Ambition Tour, 1990 VMAs, Girlie Show, ReInvention Tour, Sticky and Sweet Tour, MDNA Tour and mixed with Holy Water on the Rebel Heart Tour

Oh, that was so nice. Your Mom! I sang to the exact same things she did, because, if you are of an older age, you cannot escape this tune and this visual. It's iconic like nothing else.
The only two women aside of the male dancers are her back up singers - they had to dance too, because Madonna said so.
Actually, if you search the CZcams on Madonna and her dancer - being on tour with Madonna is the same thing as being on Broadway for dancers. It's reaching the top. They get to contribute to her tour etc. etc., including her videos, because she normally does them before the tour and selects one group of people with whom she works and does the artistic side involved in the tour. Search for the vidoes and you'll see.

The back-up singers on the track and in the video are Donna De Lory and Nikki Harris, who famously toured with Madonna for years. The dancers (mainly Jose Guiterez Xtravaganza and Luis Camacho Xtravaganza) choreographed the video, and co-choreographed the Blond Ambition Tour documented in the major film "Madonna: Truth or Dare."... the movie that way back in 1991 gave birth to reality television. Madonna actually created (or introduced) a lot of what is now the current or common popular mainstream. Madonna almost always did it first.

I remember Vogue coming out of the radio when it was the number one record. That jingly-jangly background noise sounded so unusual for a number one record. Of course there had been a lot of house music hanging round the lower end of the charts up until this time, but you never heard this kind of sound from a number one record, certainly not from a huge international star.
As for the video, whoever was in charge of the look got it bang-on right. The smoky black and white looks like a genuine 1930s film and the lighting is superb.
PS This is the UK charts I'm talking about. "Vogue" hit number one in the UK in April 1990 and was followed by Adamski "Killer," another dance track.
This was the era of acid house and the beginning of the "rave" phenomenon...!

Research the dance. Madonna didn’t invent it,but made it popular. She went to a club.shevwas told two guys were there that did the Vogue.she asked for them to be brought to her. She asked them to do the dance. They did and then this is the results. They are in the video and travelled with her. The two girls of mixed race are her backup singers. Everybody was doing this in the club. Some of the gay culture were mad because they thought she strolled the dance. But the two male dancers weren’t mad. They praised for making the Eire dance popular. I’m sure it was producers and choreographers that helped make the video so great. Madonna was and still is on the edge and ahead of her time in music. She paved the way for women artist.

This song, was inspired by the New York Ball scene of the 70’s and 80’s. The dance was invented by Paris Capri who took inspiration from the model poses in Vogue magazine. She brought to the balls and it stuck. Most of the men in the video are from the ball scene which was so amazing that Madge put a spotlight on the black/Latino gay community. José and Hector Xtravaganza of the House of Xtravaganza are in this video, they actually choreographed the video and parts of her “Blonde Ambition Tour.” If you want to do research on what the ball scene is about, watch the documentary “The Queen 1960” on CZcams. At the end of the movie a drag queen named Crystal Labeija stands up against the racism of the NYC gay pageant system. Crystal Labeija is known as the Mother of Ballroom. It’s becuz of that moment she started her own pageant system for drag queens, trans women, gay men of color called “Ball Room.” Then after you watch that, watch the documentary “Paris is Burning.” Which is a documentary solely on the Ball room culture. After that, turn to FX and watch season one and two of the show called “Pose.” That’s a show about ball room and takes place around the times of “Paris is Burning.” Without ballroom, we “LGBTQIA+” would not have our lingo, like “shade,” “werk,” and “reading.” We would not have voguing. We wouldn’t have shows like Pose, Legendary on HBO, and Rupauls Drag Race. We owe all of that to Ball room culture and the drag queens, trans women of color of the 60’s and 70’s. So if you or anyone is interested in how Madonna brought this dance to main stream, and the history behind it, watch the documentaries and tv shows I listed. Happy Pride 2020
