TSM I'm 47 and can barely finish playing hoedown (I'm a drummer) without collapsing from exhaustion. And he is one of the coolest, in an interview he talks about how he loved touring and recording, unlike so many musicians who whine about having to tour. Carl accepts everything being a successful musician entails and loves it. Rock on, Keith and Greg rock in peace r.i.p.

Nearing 70 in this video and still one of the all-time greats! Carl's solos are unimaginably inventive, replete with technical and artistic bravado, and remain to this day standards by which drummers are compared. Few rock drummers, save the great Neil Peart (R.I.P.), can captivate an audience for 8+ minutes like Carl.

Neil Peart of RUSH had announced his retirement from drumming a few years back. Loving progressive rock from the 60s and 70s, I loved ELP, Yes, and Rush to name a few. Rush fans were bummed and I suggested a day or so before that Carl Palmer could fit the shoes if Alex and Geddy wanted to continue. Both Peart and Palmer are stand out, super human drummers. Little did I know that Peart's illness was being keep secret from the public and he passed a day or so after that. My intent was to show what an incredible drummer Palmer was and to inject some hope. 2 different styles, equally as dazzling. My dream was Rick Wakeman on keyboards, Palmer on drums, Geddy Lee on bass. Lifeson and Steve Howe on guitars, and playing 1/3 yes. 1/3 ELP, and 1/3 Yes classics in a long 3-4 hour set.

For some reason he's often overlooked? Maybe because people don't know their 'rock history'? Few younger folks will remember Atomic Rooster, or crazy world of Arthur Brown. ELP was constantly 'crucified' by the UK music press as 'pompous etc'. Yet they were truly the first 'super group'. Another great British drummer was cozy Powell, he should be in the top 10 of all time as well.

Watch his water bottle closest to him - a gauge of the energy output as he does the solo. It goes into some sort of resonance a few times. It has very little water in it, if it was half full, who knows what might happen.

The gig Carl's been leading for years now is good, but I'd like to see him eventually lead a jazzier project with more finesse and less loud machine gun metal treatment of Keith's keyboard compositions.
